Media Create Sales: Week 04, 2011 (Jan 24 - Jan 30)

Namco needs to forget about Tales of Graces F and focus all their resources on bringing My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute Portable to the US instead. That's a surefire hit if I ever saw one.

People keep saying this every year, then CQ2 comes along without any sign of an "unstuffing" dip to prove it, nobody apologizes, a new generation is born,

I don't recall claims that Sony was stuffing the channel with PS3s before. PSPs? Absolutely, and the later quarters showed it. Microsoft with 360s? Absolutely, and the later quarters showed it. PS3? Sony just changes what they shipped the previous year to make this year look bigger.

Well, here's hoping TLS has some legs. Really hoping it appears stateside.

And I, for one, don't want N1 to go under. :(

I was going through the NIS Earnings report, and it appears besides for outliers(21Millon yen for Canceled projects etc) their operating business was in the black. (although they end up with 8.7 million yen in the red for final total)

2 things interesting to note: http://nippon1.co.jp/news/pdf/2011/20110204_2.pdf according to this Criminal Girls sold above exceptions.

On a different tone, Classic Dungeon X2 and D4 pre-orders are below their exceptions to they have lowered their forecast for next quarter.

998 million Consumer division Sales
187 million Consumer Division Operating profits.

The only division that had an operating loss was their Amusement(they own 2 amusement centers it seems) 65 Million yen loss

Sounds like they're doing a little better than last year then. Here's hoping Disgaea 4 outperforms 3 and helps the company get completely back in the black.

I asked him about the 3ds shipments in the comments when he didn't post them before and he replied to me that because of how shipments are handled he doesn't really have a clue, but these his best guesses. So take them with a grain of salt

Mind jack talk

What I want to know is what the bloody is Wada thinking? he quotes Drucker every chance he gets, yet doesn't seem to get the basic Drucker idea of don't sell stuff to your customers at full-price that you know is garbage. If you are going to send out a game to die that you know is unfinished, buggy and not good why make it full-price that will just bring ill-will towards your companies name?

N1 is so dead. Everything added in the D4 trailer looks like it does nothing to expand on the Disgaea fanbase at all. Online vs.? Yeah, that'll really add any sales in Japan and not be a waste of resources @_@

Just remaking same-old Disgaea with bigger, cleaner sprites was not the answer to saving the company. Would have been better to focus on more low budget creative games for PSP like Zettai Hero 2.
I guess that means I should buy D4 when it hits the states then lol

My buy alone will keep the company afloat!

Or at least they can pay the sewer bill for another month :O

It's really starting to bug me:

How could sony have mis-fired on the psp this badly, here it is almost a month and a half since shortages began and they still are completely unable to meet demand, almost everywhere has major shortages. All the stores in my neighborhood have stocked the North American Import verison.

looking at how big sales were before shortage began, I think it's safe to say they've lost more then 100,000 hardware sales.

Is it because psp was in so low demand world-wide that it was impossible to ramp up production? Some folks blame it on the new limited editions having to be produced. What do you think?

Here I thought they were absolute assholes losing PSP-3000 MH edition chance of becoming a premium, beefed-up revision of its own. Then it even left more speechless that the MH edition was just a one-off, small shipment. And finally the shortages for the...basic model, which still lasts today.

I just don't know anymore, there's usual company derp in these threads...and then there's this, which best translates to

They probably don't give a shit because of NGP. If I was them, I'd stop shipping units to NA/EU and divert all supply to Japan.

NGP won't be out for at least another 9 months. Production of PSP must have slowed down a lot and adding holidays (even though we entered February) and the upcoming bundles they can't restock with Japanese models. That's the only logical explanation.

No one noticed it but GT5 has left top 50.

Also fun Facts: marvelous came out with thier report today: they are in profit-making mode! (this includes a 3 dollar loss from canceling a next-gen RPG in development)

Falcom's report have them making a profit for the quarter too.

Yeah! Extremely small scale Japanese companies aren't dead just yet!

More Fun psp shortage facts:

Retailer reports that around the fall he was ordering 1-2 of each color per week, could have gotten more if he wanted to, After the fall he was only getting 1 of each color, around December he was getting 1-2 a week.

Another retailer reports that even with a trade-in Price of 15,000 yen he still is unable to get enough(I can confirm this is not an abnormal trade-in price now)

Kinda sad to only see one PS3 game there.

IIRC, there weren't any major releases for PS3/PSN in Japan that would attract the Japanese consumers during that time (I'm guessing the last one was Malicious).

That would probably put The Last Story around 20k. Which isn't quite what was expected.
