Media Create Sales: Week 15, 2014 (Apr 07 - Apr 13)

Vita is having a much better year than expected, YoY increase in sales, many games releasing, not bad. If only if could be half as successful in the other regions.

PS4 hold is without any game on the best selling suggests it is close to its baseline.

WiiU number are just sad.

What games are releasing next week for WiiU and PS4?

What are you basing that on?

Jeez, the Vita beats the 3DS by a small margin one week, and you all act like it's dead? Need I remind you that this has happened before?

The difference is, last year this happened due to a price drop and release of Soul Sacrifice, this year it's happening more naturally. Vita has been hovering pretty close to 3DSs sale numbers for quite a while now.

I'm not saying 3DS is dead but it's probably hitting it's saturation number by now. A release of 2DS could help to revitalise dwindling hardware sales. (software sales are fine)

Vita version of MIku f2 is still in top 20, while PS3 one is not, can't say I'm surprised.

Why would Nintendo even consider launching new portable hardware?

So one week the Vita outsells the 3DS.There's no chance it could ever even possibly imagine possibly making a dent in 3DS sales in any region.

It's being blown way out of proportion.

3DS games are also gar less frequent as well. Vita has lots of games coming, and more being announced weekly. 3DS game announcements are sparse and the release calendar is somewhat limited. Sure, it has the biggest games coming up, but there's little in between those. Vita has some bog games coming, with smaller titles almost every week.
Not that I'm saying Vita will come close to selling more this year, but the lead into Nintendo's next platform will be tough.

That's like the lowest the 3DS has been since 2011 I think. Definitely need a 3DSi to be released with Smash Bros..

Because 3DS is pretty much only platform making some kind of revenue for them and it's in freefall everywhere?

Now that the streams have crossed in a more natural manner it will be interesting to see how things pan out from here on out for the two handhelds.

Sure Vita is not doing well everywhere else but that doesn't really matter for this region.

The problem is that declining in relevance for a long period can have a knock-on effect on the next system.

Because 3DS is pretty much only platform making some kind of revenue for them and it's in freefall everywhere?
There's this too. They have nothing else to fall back on.

Final Fantasy Curtain Call (April)
Persona (June)
Yokai Watch 2 (July)

On top of my head

GirlsMode tomorrow, MapleStory on the 24th, same with a Tamagotchi game that ties in with the popular anime. Mario Golf on May 1st.

You have an odd definition of "freefall".

Or market saturation can as well.

Japan has made it pretty clear on the platforms they care about. The Vita eventually found some niche market.

yep for sure. I'm not sure they really have to worry though as long as they keep releasing software. I mean yeah they have to worry about handhelds in general but as long as they don't sit on their hands and do nothing for 2 years, like the Wii, they should be relatively fine

Vita > 3DS? It isn't because how well Vita sold, but just because how terrible 3DS dropped. The saturation of 3DS is really worrisome. When will Vita become saturation in Japan?

Last of all, glad to see Titanfall charted.

Because sales are in decline.

Less sales = less revenue = share price go down = problems for Iwata and company.

lol. I really have no words for how this has happened.

I'm not even surprised at WiiU's 5k.

To be fair Vita is the only thing up YOY.

You have an odd definition of "freefall".

It's only sold half of what it sold in the same time last year while also coming off some amazing software last year and even with all that software last year it still did worse than it did the year before that, the 3DS is dropping like a rock.

So, is the 30th title in Famitsu going to be less than 3K next week?

Anyone got some software sales comparisons with last year?

You have an odd definition of "freefall".

In japan you could say freefall already (soon 50% down yoy). Maybe still exaggeration when it comes to western sales but even there it's down by rather large amount yoy. Point still stands that for Nintendo 3DS is pretty much sole source of revenue and they really need something to kickstart the sales again as nothing will save the WiiU.

It's surprising how little 3rd party support 3DS has had for the first half of the year considering that you'd have thought companies would have upped 3DS titles based on its historic sales figures (vs a Vita that was still doing poorly until the new model).

It seems many 3rd parties would rather support a failing Vita until it succeeds... and drop support for a succeeding 3DS until it fails.

Right here.

Some people will automatically assume the Vita will catch up to the 3DS.

LOL?

All I'm seeing are the meme-istic #champion, weird 2014 vita thing, and some non-serious "for fun" posts here and there.

Not one has mentioned that it will catch up to 3DS.

At most, there are some people who predicts that 3DS will drop a bit more in the next few weeks, but nothing on the Vita catching up on 3DS.
