will you still do the AC one?

Yes, but not every week since sales have slowed down considerably.

Famitsu has it 411,025 not 410,025.

Thanks, I already fixed it.

Animal Crossing even decelerated in sales around the same sort of time that Wild World did.

It'll be interesting to see how Tomodatchi and New Leaf fare in the upcoming weeks. I could see them making a good combination for new owners to jump in with.

3 million WW is looking very likely now? When did that happen?

Well it opened pretty well in the US and it has already shipped over 1.2 million WW, so I guess that's where he's coming from... But yeah I don't think 3m WW is guaranteed (but there's a decent chance if it has decent legs in the US/EU)

Ironically I think Soul Sacrifice is going to sell better on the west than it did in Japan, considering Vita hasn't seen a significant new game in a long time after Black Ops(?).

Maybe, since it's likely one of the biggest releases for Vita in 2013, and it's not so difficult to reach 200k units between Europe and NA.

The unit was pronounced dead months ago by most people. Given that, any raise in the baseline is impressive.

That said, I remain unconvinced that it's a permanent rise.

Pretty sure a 15k baseline won't stop people calling it a dead system.

Which it will be if Sony doesn't take action. 15k is still terrible no matter how someone tries to spin it.

True dat.

If the Wii U was doing 15k a week that wouldnt somehow become a good number.

For the people celebrating the 15K baseline of the Vita...

Do you guys realize that, after the price cut, Sony is losing more money selling 15K vitas per week than 10K before the price cut, right?

Indeed. The percentage increase might seem huge, but that's because Vita was selling on the borderline of being discontinued by retailers. Now it's selling like 15k on a weekly basis, but Sony is losing more money, without having created a more long-lasting effect.

This is a silly argument. It's still a improvement.

Indeed, it'll be dead next week month year.

So? I have no shares in Sony. I'm just glad to see the install base gradually growing in the vain hopes it will attract a little more software support so I have more great games to play.

Remember when people expected a 35k baseline?
No, I don't remember that.

Yes but, hey! people here are celebrating the quantity in numbers of consoles, not on money that Sony is losing/earning.

And I want to make clear that this doesn't mean Vita is dooooooooooooomed, but the fact that I'm sad because it doesn't even make any sense to have that price cut if you are not going to get a lot better.

In the matter of Todamachi, oh boy, I expect Iwata to bring this game to see what is all this fuss about.

True, but at what expense? Losing more money and still doing crappy numbers overall. I mean, before Vita was doing 8-10k units, now it's doing (maybe) 15k: I don't think developers will change their plans for a 5-7k units increase on a weekly basis.

I don't think this new baseline (if it really is the new baseline) will change the momentum the way you are implying. If anything the small increase might be even more discouraging to developers for all we know.

Well the expense is to lose more right now to have the possibility of a better number of console wich will attract more game developers wich will bring more sales in game and hardware wich will mean more money to Sony, but yes, it's a risky business

Of course, losing money now to gain market share and then improve the situation is something that we already saw recently (Nintendo was selling 3DS at a loss after the price cut). The problem is that the situation doesn't seem to be greatly improved.

Yeah, I'd say 20-25K would be the bare minimum that might result in third parties positively reevaluating their investment in the platform, which is why I think 15K would only be a success relative to extremely low expectations (including mine).

15k is still quite a bit better than the 6-8k the Vita probably would be doing if Sony just continued to sit and twiddle their thumbs, but the work is far from over. The system needs a constant barrage of software to really gather momentum, so it's a bit of a shame there's nothing compelling for a while. Post-Golden week might be harsh for the Vita, so let's see if new attractive software is announced soon enough.

I'm expecting bombs at E3.

At least, the success of games like Senran Kagura and Monster Monpiece will bring more niche developers on the platform, and they will likely rely on fanservice stuffs since they sell quite good there.

Yes, that's why I said earlier that I'm while I'm not saying vita is doomed it's sad to see that the price cut didn't do great things when it comes to hardware sales.

Besides next week Vita has a decidedly poor looking slate scheduled for the next 5 weeks or so.

Next week is a holiday+ a bunch of games you can get cheaper used.

All other platforms have seen their sales fall when you look at year to year sales. Vita has increased 66% in the same time period.

Sure this is compared to abysmal sales from last year, but the bottom line there is no shame in that kind of sales increase from a machine that has been pretty much sent to an early grave by most pundits.

When will people learn that if a platform is doing horribly a price cut alone won't help?

I know what you mean but Soul Sacrifice was launched near that price cut. But yes you are right Sony should have waited for a bettter numbers of games to be released in the same month to have a price cut.

Tomodachi Collection is Animal Crossingly excellent. Why do I mention this in a sales thread? Legs deaf GAFfer. Legs.

Let's be fair, where would the Vita be now if it weren't for the price cut? It would be doing sub-10K numbers. If the price cut will increase the userbase which increases software sales, that would be a better result than selling very little hardware and less software sales.

Wait for TGS 2011 E3 2012 TGS 2012 E3 2013?

You forgot to add in Vita Heavens.

Just wondering what WiiU's baseline number will be...

I don't even think it matters. The Wii U's fate will not be sealed by the baseline of the next few weeks or even months. How it performs during and after the heavy hitters of the holiday season will lay out its cards for the future.

For now it will continue chugging slowly along.

I bet Nintendo wishes that AC game was only on Wii U... maybe then it would help sell some actual units.. then again it might have well bombed because no one is interested in the consoles... odd because there seems to be a lot of great value to the wii u and off screen play etc.... disappointing for sure.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Am I missing something from all the "poor Vita" posts?
