Wasnt Dark Souls released for Xbox 360 in Japan? Could be charting less than 20. place though, but that would make a huge difference between the PS3 and the Xbox 360 version.

However, if I see correctly, all the consoles actually went up.
Was there an Holiday last week?
All except for the Wii.

EDIT: The Wii didnt go down that much though, so it was relatively stable compared to last week's sales.

All except for the Wii.

Dark Souls is PS3-exclusive in Japan. Similar to FF13, where it's multiplatform in the west

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

But yes. I'm thinking of reviving it.

The kid is finally old enough to let me have some free time (when she's sleeping). I am slowly getting back into things. Went to TGS this year. Making some new gaming videos. Vinnk's Village is the next step. I just have to remember how I did it...

Sorry to derail the topics at hand: "BE vs AE" and "Should the MC thread titles be more Wacky?" but here is my report for this week:

"Vinnk's Village" Anecdotal Report

My system is getting pretty good but it still takes a long time to visit all these stores, I was unable to get to Yamada Denki this week. It is the farthest from my house and I had to teach a night class last evening.

This week I was asked to look for: Wii, DS lite, FF12:RW, One Piece, Big Brain Academy, Super Paper Mario, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War, and Ouendan 2. I went Thursday May 17th, 2007:

Jusco
Wii: Sold out
DS Lite: 1
FF12: RW 7
FFT: LW 4
One Piece: I could see 5, but possibly more.
Ouendan 2: 1

Youme Town
Wii: Sold out
DS Lite: sold out
FF12: RW 3
FFT: LW 6
One Piece: 2
Ouendan 2: Sold out

Mr. Max
Wii: Sold out
DS Lite: sold out
FF12: RW 2
FFT: LW 1
One Piece: 3
Ouendan 2: Sold out

Book-Net
Wii: Sold out
DS Lite: Sold out
FF12: RW 5
FFT: LW 1
One Piece: 2
Ouendan 2: Sold out

Goody
Wii: Sold out
DS Lite: 1 used
FF12: RW 2
FFT: LW Sold out
One Piece: 1
Ouendan 2: Sold out

Best Denki
Wii: Sold out
DS Lite: 1
FF12: RW 7
FFT: LW 6
One Piece: 6
Ouendan 2: 1

Wanpaku
Wii: Sold out
DS Lite: Sold out
FF12: RW 8
FFT: LW 3
One Piece: 9
Ouendan 2: 1

Famicom Dojo
Wii: Sold out
DS Lite: Sold Out
FF12: RW 1
FFT: LW 1
One Piece: 1
Ouendan 2: Sold out (Due to me yesterday)

Yamada Denki
N/A

TOTALS:
Wii: Sold out
DS Lite: 3
FF12: RW 35
FFT: LW 22
One Piece: 29
Ouendan 2: 3

NOTES:

1. For the second week in a row, there is not a single Wii system to be found in my town (unless Yamada Denki had some).

2. DS lite is still hard to find, but can still be found with a bit of searching.

3. One Piece is not supply constrained. It is found at every store in great numbers. The first shipment may have sold out but the second shipment has met or surpassed demand.

4. I was counting BBA and SPM at the first few stores but then it became obvious to me that neither title is supply constrained in the least. They are both selling well and it seems Nintendo anticipated that well, as they are both plentiful.

5. FF12: RW is not supply constrained and has never been supply constrained. And now that used copies are appearing at most stores I will make the prediction that it never will be supply constrained. However it is still selling at a respectable rate.

6. FFT: LW was available in every store except the porn shop.

7. Ouendan might be supply constrained, or it might be like the first Ouendan game, where some stores just never ordered any to begin with.

8. The shops are starting to realize that I am coming in every week on the same day. At one shop the owner met me at the door and said “Sorry, sir, we don’t have any Wii today.” I wonder if he thinks I am still looking to buy one and have just been unsuccessful for the last few months.

9. Sad news, “Old Reliable” (The PS3 at Famicom Dojo) was sold yesterday. A long time customer of Hiro’s came in and bought it along with the two Gundam games. Now there is just a big empty space on the store shelf, and a big empty space in my heart.

Do you remember now?

Wow, the 3DS got a boost. Even after the little boost from last week. I'm pleasantly surprised.

Also, the PS3 and PSP are doing quite well, and PS3 software has never been more healthy so it seems.

Only the Wii seems to have fallen of the cliff for good.

If I could change one thing with Sales age is that it seems to mainly focus on the top 5 or things that people from the west would find odd, instead of interesting sub-trends / niches in sales.

Subjects like
- Why has Bandai Namco become the no.1 third party publisher, discussion of their sales strategy?
-The surprising stabilization and growth of Otome game sales?
-The power of the anime effect when does it work, when doesn't it?
-Is there an suspense adventure game revival or is the stien's gate's effect due to the anime?(Dunamis's sales suggest the later)
-What is the breaking point for Musou game seemingly coming out every 2 weeks, yet still selling well.. etc etc
-Even topics like things that are popular on Nico Nico/the web world how does that transcribe to actual sales etc

I'm really interested in the bolded subject. What made you think so?

So all it needed was a handfull of titles.
The pricedrop also probably helped quite a bit. I wonder how the 3DS would have sold if it didnt get the pricedrop, but still got all these games. Unfortunately we will never know it, but i'm still curious about it. But great reat 3DS sales regardless though :)

Woah. Nostalgia.

Yeah, I could do that again. Maybe with fewer stores though. Not as much free time these days.

[Freebie: Wii is no longer supply contrained]

Odds on the 3DS managing to be supply constrained over Christmas, anyone?

Vinnk: Try to find a PSP Go to be the new Old Reliable.

Great numbers for 3DS indeed. And I don't think it's all because of Kagura, which actually has opened really well, higher than expected by me and other people.

In more ways than one!

Ahh, it's like the good old days of sales age is back!

Nintendo's Pro Bono PR Firm
3DS is almost selling as well as NDS in the good old days.
And that is before the absurd Q4 deluge of system sellers.

Who knew Pervert Strip Fight was the true killer app 3DS needed?!?! Remember this day in history, people!

Wow at Dark Souls. How much does the game fall off next week? Even so, those are huge week 1 sales.

Did not expect that 3DS bump at all. It'll probably fall into the 40-55K range during October due to the software drought, but none of that will matter come November.

strange week, went with the shit my predictions lol

Pink will be released in October, so for at least one week it won't

What's the next biggie in line for Japan, then. Mario Land 3D??

I think we all said it in the day we knew the 3DS existed; 3D boobs > everything.

Dragon Quest Slime

strangely, the game is almost 2D, very few parts of the game have 3D, even cutscenes are 2D, and also gameplay, etc

so, Boobs > anything!

I expected a boost after TGS, but getting up to 70k so early isn't what I was thinking lol. It surely has to be based on MH3G, right? Very odd, I knew the system would sell a truck load of units when Mario and Monhon hit, but seeing 70k units 1 month before Mario? Man, the 3DS numbers in November-December are going to be BEASTLY....

Not the boobs closeups. They're in thhhrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ddddddeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, I reckon that Tetris 3DS might be a surprise hit as well (especially with the AR stuff and with Nintendo pushing it. Tetris DS was quite the hit in the early stages of the DS' life!)

It's going to be a very interesting holiday season. Right now 3DS sales don't make much sense -- I can't wait to see how the sales develop.

I remember when we used to congratulate you for your wedding announcement and the birth of your baby. Now you're telling me that your said baby is already pretty independant ? Wow, I feel older :x Vinnk's Village was always a nice addition. In this incertain sales-age period in which so many things could happen,it would be very nice to rely on musings. Thanks a ton in advance if you do it :)

With the mentioned growth of the otome market, any guesses on how well FabStyle will do? I don't really get why Koei Tecmo doesn't launch that game alongside the pink 3DS. Seems like a missed opportunity.

What 3DS linked event could possibly make the stock market rocket ? I guess high sales around the world of course but what other news could inflect it ? More functionalities or price drop in games ? Is there any future event that may be very likely and would adjust the stock market direction sky ?

Just wait for December.
And when 3DS will do a million in a week.
Yeah, I think it will really happen

They simply are the number 1 by unit sales volume.

Honestly, I don't think there's a great mysticism about it. The Namco side has a few key franchises, including Tales, which reliably do well in Japan. Namco alone might be most comparable to Sega, who basically have the same MO, or even Square Enix. Meanwhile, the Bandai side pumps out an unending tide of licensed/anime properties. Combine the two sides and it's not a surprise they'd be one of the largest publishers if not the largest.

Just IMO, maybe someone would look at the data and actually see some surprisingly trend I haven't seen.

That settles it. Investors WANT 3DS to die. There's no denying it anymore. It's not even hyperbole.

It would have to outsell the iPhone.

Not kidding.

something that Nintendo doesn't expect. Short term investors are interested in fast profit, but Nintendo themselves predicted low profits for this fiscal year, so unless something happens that exceeds their expectations, this probably won't change.

For example, Iwata said that they expect Wii to sell very good during holiday, so although it will probably do, it won't make the stock take a jump, as Nintendo had thought of this yet they predicted a very low profit.

Probably a record high 3DS sale will do the trick, or if Wii wasn't selling this abysmally, it could have risen.

Because 3DS sells well. There is slimmer chance that Nintendo goes 3rd party and releases a pokemon iOS.

But given the worldwide collapse in stock market, stock price might not be too relevant to any real sales performance at the moment...

A futur event? We just had the 3DS conference. Next is January and/or the GDC for Wii U.
Meanwhile, good 3DS/DS/Wii (there is still Skyward Sword to drive it) during holiday season will take care of the stock value.

I would *hope* the MHTriG effect would cause a few of the less well-informed investors to perhaps realise that they may have been being a little hasty.

Speaking of eating crow, where did those people saying that PSP would start outselling 3DS again in September go?

Ah, of course. They're jumping ship because they think iPhone 5 will be the nail in the the 3DS's coffin.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA

It didn't affect Sony's stock, though, which is really silly.

It isn't. It also isn't relevant to any announcement targeted at gamers, as proven by the the stock dropping the day of the 3DS conference, but before any announcements happened.
