Metal Gear Solid 5 has had the best legs of any PS4 game so far, by far. Also, since MGS5 has had better legs than MGS4, how did MGS4 ever break 1 million? i don't see MGS5 legging out another 400k

I wonder what exactly COD and Star Wars are going to do for the PS4 numbers.
they both have special edition bundles in japan, so in call of duty week the ps4 may be above 40k, i'd imagine since japan likes the battlefield games the battlefront week may as well be above 40k, not sure though

Even ignoring Battlefield as an influencer, I think the Star Wars hype is building pretty well in Japan too. That should be over 40k for sure.

In 2014, Advanced Warfare boosted PS4 by over 50%.
10,078 > 15,537

Since Black Ops III is gonna sell way more, and has a bundle, don't worry, Black Ops III will made a decent PS4 boost.

19./26. [PSV] Utawarerumono: Itsuwari no Kamen # <SLG> (Aqua Plus) {2015.09.24} (¥7.344) - 3.715 / 37.687 <80-100%> (+23%)

Interesting, this VN was released two weeks before the anime series started airing which seems to have positive word of mouth and hence the small bump in sales.
Don't these sort of VNs usually come out months after the anime has finished airing?
Or is this a case of the anime being based on the VN rather than the other way around?

17./17. [3DS] Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King <RPG> (Square Enix) {2015.08.27} (¥6.458) - 5.122 / 843.886 <80-100%> (-12%)

Including digital sales it could pass 900k units in the next few weeks.

09./16. [PSV] Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition <ADV> (Sony Computer Entertainment) {2015.03.19} (¥2.592) - 8.544 / 367.716 (+13%)
The leggiest game on PS platform since forever. It is crazy how it keeps holding on sales.

Speaking of hardware sales, Vita hardware is holding steady, better than last year. 3DS hardware was ahead in the start of the year but has now declined at a much higher rate than Vita. Nothing out of the ordinary to see here though.

BO3 should do much better than Ghosts and Advanced Warfare (not only in Japan but world wide as well). More next gen consoles out there and it's an established series in the franchise with an impressive track record, unlike Ghosts and Advanced Warfare.

I'm really curious to see how will DQ XI perform on PS4.

Since MH on PSP (budget releases were a lot leggy; even MHP3rd Best Release sold 300k out of a 15k debut).

Gonna say Ghost > BO III > AW.
Ghost sold pretty well, and in Japan, it sold LIKE BO II... And i can't see BO III sell more than BO II.

MGS4 didn't break a million. It got close though thanks to a budget reprint and a series collection bundle. The vanilla release finished around ~700k.

The original game was a VN, this one is a remake and more of a Tactical RPG.
The anime airing and good word of mouth is probably what's giving the title legs, it's surprising though.

Budget releases are always leggy.

Anyone had comparison on 7th Dragon III with it's previous title here? 70+k is not really good if u ask me especially when we heard quite a lot good news about the title here.

The original was an srpg as well.
Both are heavily VNs too.
The first was really good so I'm hoping this hits 100k.

At least it might eventually be able to sell the 120k shipment.

Here's Famitsu's numbers:

7th Dragon (DS) - 81,536 / 137,857
7th Dragon 2020 (PSP) - 113,568 / 168,627
7th Dragon 2020-II (PSP) - 76,949 / 114,353
7th Dragon III (3DS) - 72.411 / NEW

On the bright side, 7th Dragon 2020 also launched around this time, where as the others were in spring, so 7th Dragon III has a shot of doing better than expected, especially if Nintendo`s big gains in the holidays are shared with 7th Dragon III.

That's not bad for Dragon Quest.

It opened lower than the 2020 sequel despite being the third mainline game. Not a good result at all. A shame since the game is apparently good judging from the impressions.

At least it might eventually be able to sell the 120k shipment.

Wasn't the initial announcement 100k shipped and then a few weeks later 120k shipped?

While some will likely be digital sales in that time, would be weird for them to ship more copies when they hadn't sold through the initial batch.

Spin-off sensation Yo-kai Watch Busters Red/White has officially surpassed Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Time/Darkness, the best selling Pokémon spin-off to date.

NDS : Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time / Darkness ( Pokémon Co. ) { 2007-09-13 } - 1,551,640
3DS : Yo-Kai Watch Busters: Red Cat Team / White Dog Squad ( Level 5 ) { 2015-07-11 } - 1,569,665 (not including digital sales)

Indeed - it's not so weird for the third mainline entry (marketing-wise, at least) to sell less than previous entries.

Where does that number come from ?
I only remember reading some managerial staff saying the game sold 100k across platforms before we even got the 1st week numbers.

Data from past GAF threads.

Well, at least they would be able to sell whatever they shipped.

Budget releases are always leggy.

They are always leggy because they are cheap, and sells to a different audience. Minecraft retail costs 2,592 yen.

The milestone was already achieved a couple of weeks ago considering digital sales, which were over 30k units in July.

That´s because you are comparing two different realities (saleswise). Due to the launch of n3DS last year this was pretty obvious to occur.

2014 mediacreate
3DS
41. 261.873
42. 113.238

PSV
41. 9.298
42. 9.391

I'm really curious to see how will DQ XI perform on PS4.

This game on it´s own excluding hinted additional versions, due to uncertainities, has a good chance to become the worst selling mainline title in a very long time in Japan.

Heh, what on earth are people buying ps4 for over there. The one ps4 game on top ten is 8k

It's difficult to ignore all the insane Japanese games on the horizon.

Just like at the start of the PS3 gen people purchased the console for games like MGS4, FFXIII, Versus and Killzone despite no release dates.

Wat. Itsuwari no Kamen is NOT a remake.

It's a sequel that takes place some years later. The original game was a VN and an SRPG, and this is the exact same style as that.

Budget releases are always leggy.

MHP3 best out of top30 after 9 weeks (2 months)

MHP3 out of top30 after 35 weeks (8 months)

MHP2G best reprint out of top30 after 49 weeks (11 months) (but first week did not chart)

MHP2G best out of top30 after 58 weeks (14 months)

MHP2G out of top30 after 24 weeks (6 months)

MHP2G best - 58 weeks
MHP2G best reprint - 49 weeks
MH3P - 35 weeks
Minecratf - 31 weeks
MHP2G - 24 weeks

considering Minecraft is priced 2,500yen, yes, you are right considering among games charting up to 30 weeks the only exception is MH3P which was full price

Nothing much notable this week in hardware, WiiU remains flat at pathetic numbers, PS4 continues to slip back down (we're at week 3, where the overall movement should be higher than the would be baseline, of the price cut and are already close to falling back to the old baseline with Bloodborne). 3DS continues to exist with the YoY drop kicking in now fast and hard, as does the Vita.

Meanwhile, software continues to be a disaster everywhere.

Used games, and games below the cut-off of the Top 30.

Jesus what a gap.
I know is because the NEW 3DS, but is still scary. D:

On that note, it looks like we're trending back toward a 25-30% decline for the overall year, which is about the trajectory that was going on before the New 3DS.

Well, thankfully they're replacing this soon.

Japan is also having the Fallout 4 promotion for Xbox One, buy Fallout 4 on it and you get Fallout 3 through backwards compatibility for free.

The game comes out on December 17th.
