Wow that's a lot of new releases in one week.

Nice to see the PS4 SKU's being on top, even if the Vita versions will have stronger legs like they usually do.

WoFF did way better than I expected especially considering COMG numbers before release.

There was Lost Song last year and it did 140k only on Vita.

But last entry was lost song:

02./00. [PSV] Sword Art Online: Lost Song # <RPG> (Bandai Namco Games) {2015.03.26} (¥6.664) - 139.298 / NEW
06./00. [PS3] Sword Art Online: Lost Song <RPG> (Bandai Namco Games) {2015.03.26} (¥7.690) - 55.090 / NEW

yeah I know about lost song, but I guess when I posted that earlier I considered lost song as different series than hollow fragment/realization even though all 3 are sao games

I was about to ask if those Berserk numbers are as terrible as I think they are, but it seems like that's the case.

BF1 had a smaller drop than I would expect.

The game most comparable to what Berserk was trying to do (making a Musou game for older gamers who liked a relatively ancient manga/anime) would be Fist of the North Star Musou, which debuted at 385,295 copies.

Probably going to get skewered for the comparison but, comparing the FF spin offs, WoFF did 100k on a 8.6 million installbase, FF: Explorers did 160k FW on a 17.6 mill installbase. So WoFF did better relative to installbase.

One game had really crappy gameplay, was a cheap cash in and reviewed horribly while the other one actually seem to be a decent game and getting much better reviews....

Yay for another week with a million releases that we can use to laugh at various publishers for everything that underperformed. Berserk Musou is the big flop. Why did they think that was a good idea? Is World of Final Fantasy a good game? Haven't heard much buzz about that.

Even so, IIRC some people here were implying barely any PS players would be interested in Square Enix's side games/JRPGs compared to on 3DS, and relative to the amount of people it was available to WoFF did more impressively.

The JP sales gap between them will also most likely be more than made up for in the west.

Animal Crossing basically got a whole sequel added to it for free...

Writing's been on the wall for months.

I still expected to do better just on the basis of being a (biggish) budget internally developed game(though TOSE was involved) on PlayStation.

Except Fist is an iconic franchise that still has a really big following among older men. There's been a new heavily advertised FotN pachinko machine every couple of months for as long as I can remember (in fact, it might be the most prominent pachinko property I can think of, banners & posters in front of literally every parlour in the country). The franchise has way more clout than Berzerk does, which doesn't seem to have any significant cross-media presence that I'm aware of. Like, you can see FotN characters somewhere in any city in Japan, Berzerk never.

That's quite a lot lower than I'd expect for World of FF. Guess FF spin-offs don't have the same pull as DQ spin-offs in Japan.

PS4 back to 30.000 units. New baseline? ;D Anyway, I don't think it'll sell more than 3DS YTD even with Pro launching soon.

Yokai 3 going down faster as expected and MH Stories won't reach 500.000 at this pace. I still think that Paper Mario can reach 100.000 with some holiday bumps unlike Berserk... man, what a disaster it has been Ö And not so good numbers for WoFF for now but I'm curious to see its legs.

When is the Animal Crossing update released? Anyone expecting a huge bump?

I don't see how it's paying off, if anything they are losing quite some sales because of it. SAO sold a lot less on Vita while not improving that much on PS4 (Although it's good to keep in mind Vita version performs really horribly). WoFF and Berserk also underperformed and sold less on Vita while not burning the charts on PS4.

The transition is quite slow and as an ecosystem software sales are going down since PS3 is no longer viable and their actions to move people away from Vita doesn't work. Userbase is either moving to mobile or waiting for the Switch. I really wonder what they will do once the Vita dies off completely.

If Berserk has no appeal why did Koei try to bring it back to life.

I don't disagree that FotN is the bigger series, but at the same time, I think they were targeting that lower bar (relative to One Piece), but only managed 1/10th of FotN's opening.

I feel really confident they were hoping for, you know, maybe at least half what FotN opened at, or even a third.

KT was approached to make a game by the guys who were making the new Berserk anime, I recall from an ITW. It was of course a crossmedia plan kind of thing, but the idea did not came from KT.

Anyway, I don't remember if this was already discussed (maybe in another thread) but DualShockers picked some tidbits from Capcom CEO presentation about PS4 lifespan and multiplatform development on PS4/Xbox One/Switch.

First of all, Tsujimoto-san mentioned that PS4 is showing stronger performance than PS3, and with over 40 million already sold, he expects it to break 100 million by 2020.

On top of that, we hear that the company is currently verifying the feasibility of multiplatform development for PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, but it’s too early to be sure. That said, the feeling is that the Switch offers a different experience compared to PS4 and Xbox One. Hardware for each game will be selected taking in consideration the characteristics of each hardware, in order to maximize the fun provided to the player.

Multiplatform is hard (c) Japan

There have been tons of spinoffs since then though.
When Fist of the North Star came out, there were still relatively few Musou options.
There are now tons of spinoffs, with varying degrees of quality and people have wised up. Every spinoff sequel had massive declines, and now these other properties being adapted as such are just falling in line with that.

No way that was going to be possible .
Berserk is no where near HnK in anything .
Having around arslan sales or little more is what they should have expected .
Then there also the problem with also having so many Musou games now.

A ps4 crows game? How did I not know about this? Think I'll pick it up while I'm here.

Also a bit of but does anyone know what these Japanese vita prices are for?

7uFvH89.jpg

I'm guessing that 18k is new, 14k is used, but what is the big 10k yen price for? Too cheap for the console right?

Want to buy a cheap used vita 2k while I'm here.

PS4 will likely pass 3DS when PS4P launches.

You mean YTD? I don't think so, as Pokémon Sun and Moon comes out the week before, and the 3DS will be entering holiday mode at the same time. Not to mention PS4 Pro is most likely going to have a rather limited impact in Japan (unless I'm mistake, it's more expensive than launch PS4?).

I guess the PS4 push is fiinally beginning to pay off...

Or it's just that the PSV audience is dying and while the PS4 one is growing it's just not growing big and fast enough to get back the lost sales from PSV.

I'd say it's a bit of both.

It really sold that much?

I think the problem with Musou collabs is that Koei-Tecmo thinks that means they can release even more Musou games than ever before. And since the formula stays roughly the same, the games don't even manage to grab people's interest anymore. Kinda like the musou sequel curse, but on a bigger scale.

Miitopia release date is December 8th.

Damn it, one month between proper reveal and release has got to be a record for a major game at retail.

I believe L~A called the release date, lol

I think you're right, ha ha. Looking back, I realise that it's not like there were other possible dates. Dec. 15 has the NSMB2 2DS bundle + Jikyou, Dec. 22 has Momotaro, and Dec. 29 is too late. Dec. 1 would be too early too.

Dec. 8 is just the right date to get word of mouth going in time for Christmas.

Japan is once again going to be dominated by Animal Crossing.

Not quite a demo, a special preview movie that lets you pick up your own Mii. No gameplay at all.

Yep, new and used, though it doesn't include tax.

They buy them at 10k price.

Nintendo 3DS - Road to 22 millions

LTD: 21 349 853 units
Units left to target: 650 147 units
Weeks left: 9 weeks
Need: 72 238 units / week

Starting to get really close here. Needs Pokémon boost asap.

Also, yet another week with sales up YoY. Most definitely won't be enough to catch up with 2015 sales though, but at least drop YoY shouldn't be too big. Also, that reminds me there never was any 3DS price drop in the end (not even in the west, unless you count the 2DS price drop).
