Media Create Sales: Week 7, 2013 (Feb 11 - Feb 17)

Nintendo, now would be a good time to announce dates for Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, Wii U Fit, and Game & Wario. You know, titles that were suppose to come out back at launch or the launch window...

I don't get how Wii U Fit is a big system seller? If you own a Wii with Wii Fit, why would you need to spend ~400 more dollars for a new system and title?

What can they offer? It is a simple system (Wii Fit). Do people really think they'll put out $400 for "HD workout instructors?" The gamepad isn't going to add much more to the experience IMO.

Plus casuals are not interested in the Wii U at all (for so many reasons lets not go into it right now), so that puts an even larger damper on a $400 purchase.

Worsening drops for consoles all around. I wouldn't be surprised if this week proves to be Vita's worst since it's right before the price drop, but I guess that ought to be compensated.

How many million sellers does the 3DS have? Worldwide please
In order of release:

Nintendogs + Cats (Nintendo)
Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition (Capcom)
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (Nintendo)
Pokémon Rumble Blast (Nintendo/Pokémon Co.)
Super Mario 3D Land (Nintendo)
Mario Kart 7 (Nintendo)
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (Capcom)
Mario Tennis Open (Nintendo)
New Super Mario Bros. 2 (Nintendo)
Paper Mario: Sticker Star (Nintendo)
Animal Crossing: New Leaf (Nintendo)
Dragon Quest VII: Warriors of Eden (Square Enix)

Japan is a much smaller market than America and Europe. It's why 3DS keeps missing all of Nintendo sales projections for it even after the slash them multiple times.

Yet the 3DS is selling better in Japan than any other region. Mostly down to the 3DS being the only system that the Japanese care about for the most part, whilst system sales are more evened out in the US and Europe.

Any reason for the Mario Kart bump this week when the system dropped in sales?

I assume purchasers who bought the system for DQ7 last week now on the lookout for other content for it. There's a lot of small bumps across the board for 3DS titles.

The "healthy" PS3 sold only 6k more units. And like PSP outselling 3DS in some 2011 weeks it most likely will be only short term also in this case, especially with PS4 in the horizon, I wouldn´t even exclude the possibility of a similar situation to PSP vs PSV.

The "healthy" PS3 is almost 7 years old.

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
Wii U sales is really pathetic, goes down faster than the vita.

And Nintendo deserves it. How and why did they release the Wii U without a steady stream of library? And they said they learnt from 3DS' launch.

All charts launch-aligned.

Note, since this draws only from the top 10 it does not represent smaller titles.
e.g., software sales of zero are assumed if the console has no games in the top 10.

Tally of the number of titles for that platform in the top 20 for each week.
I can't find the top 20 for PS3's second week. It has been assumed as zero.

Feel free to criticize or point out mistakes.

Soon we'll have two more 2M sellers for 3DS. MK7 and NSMB2. SM3DL will join later as well.. maybe by the end of the year.

It isn't even in us, 3ds is doing downright bad in America. It's jan sales were pretty awful.

That's what you get when you have Reggie in charge of the largest region.

Why he shares in marketing blame, I have a feeling he has little input on hardware or software decisions at this time.

Maybe he could try to get more western 3rd party support(which his job would entail), but he would need full support from Japan to do this (and I'm not sure he has it).

It's easy to make a similar case that casuals aren't interested because there's nothing the console offers for them, which Wii Fit U possibly would, if only because it would cater to a base that probably would very much take to them a vastly upgraded hardware/software for their every day purposes.

Hypotheticals like these are hard to gauge.

The selling point is off TV workout. You can watch your soaps while using Wii Fit U or if your lazy significant other is hogging the TV.

I don't know if people will find this feature attractive enough to buy a Wii U. But it will definitely be one of the titles that factoring into the purchase of the console when more and more games come out.

Japan embracing Wii U as its main console!

Ok I stop now. They need to get that software out soon. Isn't japanese release list even worse than western? Well at least 3DS continues doing ok.

PS4 will do fine the first week and then sell horribly for a long while. The price will be too high for Japanese and I doubt Sony will have enough Japanese-oriented games ready for launch.

Could have missed some games though.

EDIT:
Ah ah I missed NSMB2 and PMSS.

Thank you so much :) So twelve million sellers so far, that's nice

Does anyone know how much money went into Fantasy Life? With the current sales I really doubt they've made their money back on that game with the scope it has. They'd have to localize it at this point. I would hope at least. Seems like such a great game.

Reggie is fully responsible for the 3DS performance in NA, especially compared to DS.

He constantly makes poor choices for bundles, system colors, pricing, and advertisement. He is also responsible for not localize a lot of games.

Add in the FE shipment fiasco, Reggie is proving to be incompetent and Iwata even more incompetent for keeping him around.

OK I know Kanojo means Girlfriend, so uh...wtf is this game about anyways?

It's just another Visual Novel adaptation from a Light Novel with a current airing Anime. The eccentric female protagonist is what pulls it apart from any other run-of-the-mill romantic comedy, but it just a generic story in my opinion.

Interesting idea, but where do you put the gamepad. On a table? Pick it up when you're ready? Unless you keep the TV sound way down, how are you going to hear things? It would be more of a distraction IMO and breaks the routine. Besides, as someone who works out alot (not with Wii Fit mind you), only time I watch TV is during aerobic style excercise like a treadmill where I can zone out on the TV for 30 mins. Doing anything where you do short workouts and I find the TV itself to be a distraction.

Still not buying Wii U Fit being a major seller.

What software? There will be a little bump when Pikmin 3 releases but we won´t see a real system seller until october/november. That´s a glorious 8 months of 10k a week.

Ok, so I can't really know for sure but Animal Crossing supposedly got a lot of changes in this version and Nintendo put a lot of time into the game which is why it's doing so well and resonating. Do people think if Nintendo had put the same kind of time into New Super Mario Bros 2 that it could have at least come somewhat close to its predecessor? Or was the new 2d Mario always set to sell much less?
Sadly, it hasn't. It must be close at this point though.

And unfortunately we'll probably never know.

3DS has the Japan market by the balls.

It's like nothing else sells over there.

Well, the 3D3 gets the most support from Japanese developers...
The more games a platform has, the better it will sell.

WiiU and Vita lack support, games. I'm sure both platforms would do well if the support was there.

The former. The NSMB brand was overworked in a short amount of time without enough desirable changes.

Watching the Wii U is painful.

Watching DQVII and AC makes me feel warm!

I heard some stores already lowered Vita's price. If so, I'm buying one tomorrow.

Wii U purchase pushed back. :(

Wii Fit U in spring, Wii Party U in summer, Wind Waker HD in fall should do decently, with system seller potential for some at least.

Wii Sports U needs to be fast tracked for Q4. That plus Super Mario and Mario Kart would make a good holiday trinity.

He 100% has responsibilty but again half the items above would need financing and approval from Japan (like localization which equals money).

If he has a set budget per quarter/year for localization, yes he may make poor choices. However, if each title must get approval from Japan, he has less responsibility (except for not pushing hard enough).

If I knew more about Nintendo's relationship with NOA, I could make an informed opinion about the guy but I do know a lot about global corporations in general and it is rarely the regional executives fault (especially if it is consistent) for some of the issues Nintendo has been having.

just put the gamepad into its little stand and put it in front of the tv, some exercises more than others will lend themselves to it but my mrs cant wait for it

PSP is even 2 years older than PS3 and outselling PSV, so it´s a bit too simplistic to make such excuses.

The handheld scene in Japan has clearly been much largely than the home console scene for years now.

It is the complete opposite of here in the west, ironically.
