Media Create Sales: Week 7, 2014 (Feb 10 - Feb 16)

So... Wii U is still sold at loss? How? Yeah, the GamePad is 80€ or something, but the hardware is very weak and PS4 sells at a really small loss for 400€. Price drop probably wouldn't help (if not something insane like 99€ or 150€) at all, so whatever, I suppose...

I remember zombie talking about it before that Nintendo hw, specifically the Wii U, is more expensive than it should be because it's not just off the shelf parts due to Nintendo wanting HW based BC which required specialized chips etc.

According to Dengeki, Wii has a new million seller.

[WII] Donkey Kong Country Returns - 165.000 / 1.014.000

As usual, there is a little discrepancy between Dengeki and the other 2 trackers.

Media Create - 970.221 (17.517 in 2012) as of December 30, 2012.
Famitsu - 977.034 (10.437 in 2013) as of September 29, 2013.

According to Famitsu, its sales during 2013 were steady (14.549 in 2012 vs 10.437 during the first 9 months of 2013, the 3DS port must have helped to move some old stock), so it actually may hit one million in this tracker too although I personally don't think it will happen. The main reason is that Nintendo probably stopped shipping more units a long time ago. As for Media Create, we will have to wait for 2013 Top 1.000.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (35.829) had a 40% sell-through (around 90.000 units shipped).

Wonder what, if any, bump the vita will get with the ps4 launch. In my group of friends, 8 out of 10 ps4 owners have a vita. Using math and science I suspect the vita will clear half a million units next week.

.....there's a top 1000?

Yes. Famitsu/Media Create don't post them in their magazines/sites though, they publish them in a yearly expensive analysis book called white paper, if we're lucky someone buy it and then post the list on the internet later.

you know, this reminds me
why aren't there any leakers for Europe sales data?
(because without the leaks, the information NPD gives out is pathetically low)

To be fair, with the exception of Demon's Souls which sold over a million in the West, and Soul Sacrifice which is subsidized by a console vendor, those franchises are all dead now.
Well, keeping in fairness most didn't die right after the release in question either. Everything but ROF and Last Story continued.

Can anyone corroborate that a lot of Japanese excitement around the PS4 is due to Playroom/NicoNico? Is it really that big a deal over there?

Who wouldn't want all of their streams to be like this?

So I'm just curious.. And maybe there is a thread about this.. What are people's predictions
for next week with the PS4? I honestly do not know what it will sell with confidence.. It could really have a beastly launch, or it could reflect the JP market of adopting the PC, smartphone, and/or portable market over any console..

Nah who cares about Retro

or did you think I was one of those "Retro should make another Metroid!" people
You sound like one, and you definitely seem to care since you "can't wait" for it to "bomb"

And DKCR sold 4.2 million units in a month when it was released, should be way past the 6-7 million ww

DKCR will always be one of the surprise hits for me.

I had no clue DKC still had such popularity especially on Wii since it came out when it was in steep decline WW.

Doesn't yakuza usually sell like 500-600k?

So the prediction then is the PS4 version would sell 150k.
