Media Create Sales: Week 7, 2018 (Feb 12 - Feb 18)

What a better way to make use of my thread-creating privilege than to finally start another media-create thread :)

As I've said before, I believe that the weekly media-create threads were one of the most immediate pulls for the general public to visit NeoGAF. If we want NeoGAF to grow (especially now that the outrage crowd has left), we should take care of this ... institution.

My personal life is quite a mess at the moment, so I absolutely cannot take responsibility for the weekly creation of these threads. That's why I hope others will join me to keep this important part of NeoGAF alive. I have no idea about a fancy presentation, so I'll just copypaste numbers from gematsu.com. If anybody wants to contribute the usual format, send me or a mod the text and the OP surely can be updated. Also it'd be great if someone could make some interesting graphs (hardware sales, monster hunter world compared to past entries, etc).

Anyway, let's go:

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Seeing the Secret of Mana remake so close to the top of the software charts warms my heart. I'm having an absolute blast with that game and I'm loving it to bits.

I still find depressing how much Bandai Namco shuns the Switch. I'm watching tge Idolish7 anime and would have loved to play that game. My boys, let's defeat Trigger!

And SAO: Fatal Bullet would have been nice to have on the go, too.

My predection that Japanese publishers are making these decisions intentionally to later rip off fans. If they released both PS4- and Switch-version simultaneously, they know that the PS4-version would suffer immensely. Thus they hold back the Switch-version for 6 months to a year and then get fans to double dip for the portability feature (and probably some cheap throw away-additions).

Maybe I'm wrong, but as of now, I expect most recently released/announced Bandai Namco-games to be announced for Switch in the near future. Same for Capcom's Okami HD. It's a despicable, anti-consumer publishing strategy in my opinion, but I expect it to be true nevertheless.

I have the same feeling. Seen how Xenoverse 2 is doing on Switch it make me think that it may be a standard : "Let's sell how many units you can sell on PS4/XONE and them after one year re-release the game on Switch". If Namco announces Dragon Ball FighterZ for Switch in 4 to 6 months, this might be a sign of this pattern.

But I still, hope that more games are released simultaneously for Switch

And talking about the sales, poor Bayonetta, Nintendo should have done more Ultimate Climax Edition,if so I believe that they could have sold more units. It is a pity that we don't know how many units was the first shipment. And since people was looking for both games on cartridge, maybe the digital sales were a better than retail.

And man, Secret of Mana not be on Switch, is hard to understand.

Am I reading it right, Vita outsells the most popular Xbox... 50 to 1?

Well, this is Japan we're talking about so it's not that surprising to see Xbox's numbers so low.

As in the past, I can't be happy about MHW success. If the console MH now manages to sell 3+ milluon units, there's even less incentive for Capcom to develop a new Switch MH. Not only have the chances for portable MH in the West been slim as it was, but this success in Japan even puts a portable MH in Japan in jeopardy. Chances are Capcom saw mhw's success and now goes 'well, now that console mh sells this well, let's lower the budger for MH Switch and just cheaply put together some upscaled 3DS-tier quests'.

We're currently inmidst of a no-news period, that will only change with either the next Direct or E3. But as of now: it's a bad time to be a fan of portable MH :(

But how do you know? Is it indirectly mentioned in OP?

What exactly are you surprised of?

Thinking about it that way makes me sad. I hope that isn't the case. MH4U and SMTIV were easily my most played games on the 3DS.

Bayonetta didn't do so hot...I know it's just a port but that's a bit lower than I expected.

Thanks for the Wii U/NSW comparisons. That doesn't seem too big of a drop off for a port...why isn't Bayonetta more popular in Japan? I'm hoping it sold better in other territories.

One could also be happy that consoles are doing better in Japan beyond portables and there is more and healthier competition this way... which you like, right ;)?

And I was thinking that Minecraft on Switch was selling gangbusters.

I am really curios to see how Metal Gear Survive will perform. Most of people hate the game, just because it exists. Imagine the chaos if this game sell a lot, which I think is hard, but would be something else to see.

Bayonetta 1's original release in Japan:

[PS3] Bayonetta (SEGA) - 135,242 / NEW

[360] Bayonetta (SEGA) - 64,325 / NEW

I think the PS3 version was the one plagued with issues but I guess the difference between 360/ps3 isn't surprising given the user base in Japan. The Switch's user base should be much closer to PS3's than 360's at the time of Bayonetta 1's release, so Bayonetta 2's sales are indeed underwhelming.

One could also be happy that consoles are doing better in Japan beyond portables and there is more and healthier competition this way... which you like, right ;)?

Yeah, and I don't see any reason why a console MH and a portable MH can't coexist, but I'm still worried Capcom either won't bother with portable MH anymore due to MHW's success or just not bother to localize them.
