Media Create Sales: Week 8, 2017 (Feb 20 - Feb 26)

I don't typically follow sales but I'm glad to see NieR doing well. It's a great game and I was incredibly pleased by it. Such an improvement over the original.

Congrats Nier, amazing sales!

But man, Island PSV didn’t even make it into the Top30 and must have sold under 1800 units in its first week. Visual Novels haven’t been doing so well on Vita lately (at least the physical releases), hope this is not a trend that continues.

Amazing for Nier!

I guess over the next few weeks is when this thread really gets interesting, will be looking forward to it.

What are the early guesses on Switch?

RE7 doesn't seem great at 10k imo and I guess as some where saying the numbers down the line are a lot lower than they use to be.

Is 200k the new bar for doing good? atleast on ps4
Theres no general bar for doing good or bad regardless of the system, it all comes down to the game itself. Many series have sold less in this generation though, so some expectations might be lower than before.

Great sales for both games!

Holy shit. Taro and the Platinum team fucking did it.

I'm so happy. Nier Automata is such a special game and it deserves all the goddamn love in the world.

Bayonetta 2 sure, but not the original.

PS3 Bayonetta [All Versions] 138.430 223.272 SEGA 10/29/2009
360 Bayonetta [All Versions] 66.211 118.165 SEGA 10/29/2009
WIU Bayonetta 2 33.114 51.361 Nintendo 9/20/2014
Well yeah you're comparing an exclusive with a game that came out on 3 consoles :p

Damn nice sales for Nier AND SRW. Also RE7 and FFXV still holding after all this time.

Hopefully Nier Automata is just the beginning for a Taro and Platinums relationship. Maybe SE can fold them into their own mid sized BD.

Maybe if we include digital for Nier it's very close even against a game in three different platforms!

Holy crap that's an outstanding result for Nier. And a much more disappointing opening for a major SRW game. Lol.

Nier and Nioh are definitely showing a strong upward trend for action RPGs of this sort on the PS4. Hopefully the industry takes advantage of the demand rather than letting the wind fade.

Good job Yoko Taro and Nier. Hopes US and EU sales are as gangbusters as these!

Should be another 2 week million seller like Nioh.

Of course NieR Automata is #1. It has the leading booty.

Damn it. KH 2.8 left the top 30 in Famitsu. The run is over, but it can be revived in 2 weeks.

Biggest opening week and first not bomb in 4 years, already outsold more than Nier Replicant and Gestalt, in just one week and almost as much as their 4 Wii U games combined.

Good games sell when the demographic is actually there.

Yup, only their Nintendo stuff bombed. It's not like they were reduced to working on low budget licensed stuff or anything.

Reduced to, you act like a studio for hire wasn't being a studio for hire. They were doing plenty of other stuff while also doing that.

That's an incredible debut for Nier. I'm assuming it's far above the original, and I'm surprised that it's almost equalled Resi 7's sales already!

Really happy to see the excellent sales for Nier. Hopefully it continues to gain traction in the west as well.

SRW has been in a downward spiral for a while now, given it and the general state of the mecha industry in japan I think it did fine.

They went from being hired to make ambitious new IPs to making low budget licensed games. If stuff like Bayonetta, Vanquish and Anarchy Reigns were selling well that wouldn't have happened. For that matter they wouldn't have ended up making a bunch of Wii U games either.

The power of the hype from a cult following bolstered with excellent marketing >< YES

Wow, Nier is now as big as the Resident Evil franchise. Who would of thought of that?

Talent seemingly always wins!

They were still being hired to make "ambitious" IP's. That was a lull for a year or two at most. Their Nintendo work and later Microsoft work meant they were never really downgraded. They went from Rising to Bayonetta 2 and Wonderful 101 to Star fox and the current crop. What your talking about is a vast overestimation. Sega simply doesn't make large AAA games anymore in any substantial capacity. They moved onto other publishers. The budget didn't drastically change. They were never only working on activision stuff. Those were extra contracts for smaller sized teams. In terms of volume of work it went up not down while they doing those.

Tsutaya report regarding Switch Pre-orders:

Zelda Breath of the Wild is the most pre-ordered game by far. Pre-orders are 5 times higher than 1-2-Switch, the second most pre-ordered game.
Bomberman R is third and Dragon Quest Heroes 1-2 is fourth.

Regarding the profile of users, not only the usual Nintendo fans, also people who enjoy Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter, and other light users have Switch pre-ordered. He has the impression that a new audience is interested on the system, different from the typical Nintendo.

Sounds like a promising start, despite the weird quote at the end.
