I wonder if VF5 isn't putting up big numbers because its coming to 360? Either way good thing Sega decided not to make it exclusive.

Yeah, I can see Japan waiting for the superior 360 version

The big question is answered tomorrow, how many of those 47k were purchased along with brand new PS3s?

And Cheese, could it be possible for the ammounts for the new titles have NEW for their total? Example:

01. (PS3, Sega) Virtua Fighter 5 - 48,346 / NEW

I'm happy VF5 hit the number one spot.... Although i'm guessing it didn't do better since they've been playing the arcade version of VF5 for a year now..

Yeah, I can do that. Hold on a minute.

EDIT: Done.

awesome great news that the PS3 FINALLY has a game on the top 100 - and number 1. I'm glad the software is finally moving, it really is a great console, it just doesn't have the software to push it.

Good stuff.

...oh great the n-things are here already.

:lol

You call this software "moving?"

I think Super Mario Land, and New Super Mario Bros is only 2nd to the original Super Mario Bros.
Either that or I have it reversed.

Super Mario Land.

Next up is the Famicom edition of Super Mario Bros. About 2 million or so away.

Was Super Mario Bros bundled with the Famicom in Japan? If it was, I don't think it should count.

Goodbye, gaming industry; we hardly knew ye.

WTF are you on about? Because the first big name release for the PS3 didn't crack the 50,000 barrier, it's bye-bye gaming industry?

How about Super Mario and GTA? They aren't games? Or do you think that Wii Sports isn't a game?

Give it some time, when more games are released and the price of the PS3 drops, things will start selling.

This would be an odd week for Sonyfan's to be celebrating anything as this has been Nintendo's most dominating week yet.

Hrm. In theory, 2.5 million at ~25,000/week would be just under two years. So, if NSMB had the kind of legs that Brain Age / Brain Age 2 did, it could in theory do it. It's a pretty off chance though.

Why hasn't Cheesemeister's tag been changed to something like "King of Media Create"?

Ha, good going for GTA. Once again it shows that killing hookers and stealing cars is an activity that transcends cultures.

Because he stole it from cvx.

Also I'd love if Japan had a mix between good selling Wii games and the PS3.

The PS3 is dominating Japan! NOW SDF! Now is the time to strike, while the iron is hot. Gloat like never before. :lol The PS3 is gonna stomp a mudhole in the competition over there. Forget it. The 360 has already committed ritual suicide, and now the Playstation ninjas are honing in on the Wii. Duck and cover, waggle pussies! *ahem* Well...it might be the last time in a while that there'll be anything to crow about. :? PEACE.

Ah, that'd make more sense at least - but you never know on GAF! :)

Oh, and cheese, some of the numbers are cropped in the Pac-picture, I know it's just a bonus and all :), but maybe just leave out numbers in the graphic and only include the titles?

Yeah, I doubt it happening, myself. The inevitable NSMB 2 will probably eat up a lot of sales NSMB would get.

Wouldn't you prefer that Japan had a mix of great games, rather than specifying which consoles must arbitrarily perform. I think we should cheer for good games and boo bad ones, rather than saying this "ALL CONSOLES ARE EQUAL" equivalence stuff.

I just looked at the numbers again...

-Wii Play will be a million-seller in Japan within the next month easily.
-More Brain Age will surpass 4,000,000 in Japan alone in the next two weeks guaranteed.
-Harvest Moon: The Island I Grew Up On will be the highest selling Harvest Moon title since... well, I don't know. It should reach 175,000 easily.

Oh, and I'm expecting good things from Naruto Wii and Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn in a couple of weeks. Wii should be dominating the top ten that week.

Just wait 'til you guys see tomorrow night's post. :D

EDIT: Done. Hit F5.

So, you're saying it's just like the Star Trek movie number curse? ...that the odd-numbered ones are terrible and even-numbered ones are great? Interesting...

Well their so different in concept and execution - with the Wii introducing "new gen" and the Playstation 3 continuing with the standard gaming fare, that's why I'd like a mix of both.

Wow, that's pretty surprising.
Especially considering the Saturn came from a system that didn't peform all that well in JPN (right?).

Poor, poor Brain Training 2. It's dropped half it's weekly sales in a year.

Wow, that's incredible. The game has crazy legs. In the next 2 weeks the DS will have yet another 4m seller already. What is the Japanese record for total 4m sellers on a console?
