Mega Man 2 speedrun, with a live soundtrack

I saw this and wanted to share. At Magfest (video game music con), the band Bit Brigade perform in concert by having someone speedrun through NES games while they do the soundtrack. Last year it was Ninja Gaiden, this year it was Mega Man 2.

WARNING: 44 minutes long!

- It's not strictly a speedrun - it's easy mode, and the player works with the band to get the best effect - but the band only had 50mins to perform so time was a factor.
- Massive Metal Blade abuse abounds.
- They mix it up in a few places, they throw in the Mega Man 3 "Get a Weapon" track with the special Items, they don't repeat the Wily tracks, and the final boss fight is Wily Capsule from Mega Man 4 (which is a personal favorite).

And for those of you who just want to hear the first Wily stage music ('cause I know you're out there), here ya go:

That's not a MM2 speed run.

I saw this elsewhere. Interesting stuff.

Only due to the fact that the band only has 50 minutes, so the guy playing has to beat the game in that time frame.

Its not a speedrun in the sense of trying to beat the game as quickly as possible, but he's still racing the clock.

This makes no sense. It's not a speed run. Maybe a timed run?

The band is only on stage for 50 minutes. The guy playing the game only has 50 minutes to beat the game before the band leaves the stage.

Its kinda the opposite of a speed-run.

The speed in which Flash Man dies is hilarious, and then into MM3 Get a Weapon... :O

The Quick Man theme sounded a bit messy though.

Holy shit i wish i could be there. When the intro started, it gived me shivers.
There's love in this idea, kudos to the band for what they've done.

They played megaman 3's weapon upgrade music when megaman received a vehicle upgrade. The Inaccuracy threw me out of the experience.

I couldn't watch anymore of it after that. mm3 music belongs in mm3.

The camera angle isn't great, but it's cool nonetheless. Nice music and that guy is pretty damn good at Mega Man.

Maybe... just maybe... they wanted to put the song in to spice things up... just maybe...

You would have hated the fact that they go into Spark Man's theme during Crash Man's stage.

Admittedly, it is really frickin' long compared to other stages.

And I will fight anyone to the death that doesn't think that the first level of Wily's Castle isn't one of the greatest tracks in the history of games.

Troll harder.

Bubble Man was hilarious, as always.

I wish i was trolling.

The music megaman three fits three and three alone. Look at the intro of the three. There's no elaborate cutscene. It's straight to the point. You press start and you see tired and wore out megaman. Megaman looks really mad at the boss select screen. Perhaps, he simply tired of all this. It may seem like something insignificant, but it foreshadows the overall darker more industrial theme of the game.

The music in 3 fits that darker motif of the game. The chords are have colder feel and most of the music has a strong bop-jazz influence. In contrast, Megaman 2's music is warmer, with power metal feel

look at the megamans face in the Weapon screen (in the link below). He looks afraid and confused. He doesn't know what lies ahead. He's met someone who's similar to him (protoman). He knows dr. light has kept something from him. The enemies are harder this time around (the bosses have impossible random patterns with much stronger weapons). Sure, megaman may have gotten an upgrade, but the music has no happy or uplifting feel. You get the feeling that the more dangerous things lie ahead.

You take things wayyyyyy too seriously man.

Ok, this is pretty cool. Also I appreciate that he did QuickMan's stage with no time-stopper. Would have loved a better camera angle though :|

This may be the most painfully geeky thing I've ever seen. Very well done though.

I have bad days where I can't get through Quick Man's stage without dying like 5 times in a row, there's like no way in hell I'd play this in front of an audience, so props to this guy.

Good job on making Crash Man's stage sound remotely serious especially. I can't get through that stage without laughing at the epic ridiculousness of that music. Or without having it stuck in my head for a week. The segue into Snake Man was amusing.
