Hyped for this game. I started digging through my garage for my old copy of Megaman Legends 2 and found the empty case. Fuck my past self for not putting games back in the proper cases. FUCK ME.

This is actually a pretty clever solution to those who have no history on the game, considering how the cliffhanger left us.
They're introducing a character who doesn't know shit about Megaman (or does he??) and encounters a group currently trying to rescue him. Plotwise it can be a much smoother transition to explain to people why Megaman is stuck where he is and how they'll get him back. Plus the new guy looks like he could be kind of cool

I think it's the faded look that makes it look blue-ish.
For being 25% in development i think its looking pretty damn slick. I feel like a lot of people who are pissed about it either have never played Megman Legends or don't remember anything about the game. Megaman Legends was never a critically acclaimed hit or anything. If anything it received average to pretty good scores. It was more of a cult hit than anything.

Oh fun video of the missions. Of course it's blurry as hell. Can't wait to play this in a month, should be fun. I guess if the game does get officially greenlit, we'll see it in Spring 2012?

Definitely something to look forward to. I wonder how far the final game will go with this new guy in hand. Hopefully and ideally he and Mega Man will have 2 on going stories. I like how the got down that dashing.

So, the game has you venture around a beta version of the city with the second, new lead character for the full version. Not what fans might want, but it is a way to get attention toward him rather than throw him in the full game without any real way of gaining acquaintance.
Three missions, each unique in style (shoot many enemies, city travel/escort, boss).
Afterwards, you get a debug menu with the ability to add special abilities and go through incomplete worlds and areas in the game.
And all for 2 dollars.

Clearly, being called prototype, I have a feeling that the game could still be on the brink, and this release is to do two things: 1) prove to higher brass that there exists a userbase interested in the game, and 2) help to get fan support, both the in financial and development sense. If this is truly successful, I expect this game to get a bit more support from the company. Otherwise, it could end up canceled. Thankfully, if it does, at least we'd have a look at what could be.

I've waited 10 years for that game now and capcom is pulling a sonic cycle with legends 3.
I showed that barret character to a few friends of mine and none of them guessed it's from a megaman game. They thought it was from some low budget jrpg or some fan creation.
His design is crammed, too busy and the color scheme sucks, the ponytails is WAY too much in an already overloaded design, his feet look like shopping carts, he is wearing a stupid jacket and pants. It's so foreign compared to the other characters.
This is the first time that a design from capcom made me cringe. They usually don't do stuff this poorly thought out. I suspect it's from the same rookie that complained about megaman's "diapers" and suggested that ugly C design.
Capcom stated from day one that this game is basically pure fanservice, so I don't know why they had to throw in a shitty new friend that doesn't even fit the established aesthetics.
I for one am put off by him, if I buy the prototype I'm going to buy it DESPITE the new character and not because of him.
There are lots of megaman characters the fans love, so I don't know why they didn't base that new character on one of them.
If the new character would look like a legends version of protoman, bass or zero there would be much more reason for hype and people like me would be more inclined to buy that prototype.
And to give some meat to my criticism I quickly sketched a legends version of protoman (because barret sort of has that protpman colorscheme going on with his grey/red contrast and the glasses and he probably is a rival type character) to illustrate my point and to show that I'm not completely talking out of my ass here.
I'll be uploading a less rough and colored and generally more polished version as soon as I get the time to do so.
Where's the page to submit fan feedback to legends 3? Because this is the first time I'm getting SO worked up about a design choice that I'd like to give feedback to the developer.

Barrett is actually pretty cool. When I read the description I was like, "Whaaat?! Stupid!" But then I saw the awesome glasses and I was okay. He seems to have a fun personality too.
As others have pointed out, he's like ProtoMan. And since ProtoMan is always greater than MegaMan (its the glasses), I'm okay. Legends always needed some sort of a ProtoMan character.
Edit: Just wanted to say I've surprised myself how okay I am with the way this game is turning out. I hate the idea of fan input, and I thought they'd screw up Legends feeling pretty badly, really. But it's actually looking good, and I am impressed.

But roll and megaman are re-imagined classic characters. That is the whole point to the series. And barret doesn't even follow the established design aesthetics of legends.Serenade said:

I'm personally excited at the idea of poking around in prototypes (I LOOVE going to unseen 64 and reading about work in progress builds of stuff and what changed). And the fact it's legends has me frothing.
