I NEED TO KNOW PEOPLE.

Simple: It will drop to 3 player co-op.... or (less likely) AI controlled co-op. Unlike Gears, there are no characters that are made to be there the whole time, so it will probably just drop to 3 players co-op.

You know what's worse than that? Legendary Coop with the skull that restarts to the last checkpoint whenever one person dies. There's going to be a lot of chewing out in those sessions. I can just see griefers heading in with a 4-man group and dying over and over on purpose. :lol

Can I admit something shameful? Until I read this post, I had no idea that Skulls weren't just Cog Tag type things that I was never good enough to find.

This is amazing news and before I lose the ability to write in any kind coherent manner, I do have one question...Will the number of enemies raise and lower depending on the number of players in co-op...2 MCs and 2 Arbiters are likely to wipe the floor of even the largest of enemy groups, don't ya think.

Great news, I really wasn't all that interested in Halo3, esp after the beta but integrated online gaming through the single player story with 4 friends jump in/jump out (hopefully) and I'm totally sold.
If co-op is as integrated as Gears of War was it will be absolutely huge.

The latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly caused a little controversy when Bungie couldn't confirm the existence of online co-operative play in Halo 3 because the feature wasn't ready. Now, apparently, it is. News out of a press conference in Amsterdam (as reported by Inside Gamer), later confirmed by former 1UP'er-turned-Bungie-mangod Luke Smith, brings word of four-player online co-op play over Xbox Live in the September shooter.

Microsoft and Bungie confirmed at a pressconference in, thats right, Amsterdam, that Halo 3 is playable via xbox live with four people at a time. That way four players can compete via xbox live with eachother or against eachother. With Halo 2 this was possible with only two players.

Does that mean me and 4 of live buds can play single player like two players would Gears of War? The way it is put makes it seem likes like its just regular mutiplayer like the Beta but you can select for of you four buds and kill each other ala Golden Eye for N64 instead of going through the process of finding a match.

It means that four players can play through campaign together cooperatively or play through campaign's metagames competitively...

Good god, this game goes so far beyond the other Halos it's not even funny. Bungie is at the very top of the game here.

All this time I thought 4P co-op was a pipe dream, that it would never happen and there was no point in hoping for it. It'll be very interesting to see how this works; I have always been fine with 2P co-op and struggled to see the point for throwing in two more players, but hey, if Bungie can make it work then more power to 'em. They've earned my trust like no other developer.
