I always thoguht the idea of Tetris was that every piece has a place and you should always be trying to find that place where it fits if that makes sense. But even if you play it perfectly you are gonna screw up at some point and Tspins can be added to fix those mistakes

For me, it's all about basically just keeping your stack clean so that you can score constant Tetris clears, and there are basic things you train yourself to keep in mind as you play to make this happen, like not creating holes that are 3 blocks high thus requiring an I piece to keep the stack clean (ideally you want as many of your I pieces as possible going towards Tetris line clears and not fixing up big valleys you created that can only be filled with I pieces)

Line pieces are the death of me. They tend to be on reserve for me and use them when I need them but I then tend to freak out when I have a square I cant place perfectly and end up using the line.

I am guessing Tetris 99 also isnt the best way to try and get better lol. Thats my main tetris game right now.

I actually haven't played that yet. I'm not big on competitive Tetris, it's a different animal with different strategies.

Lots of practice in any version will make you better in general I think, but single player and multiplayer strategies are completely different. From what I've heard, in T99 combos are key to victory, scoring consecutive line clears with each new piece, so as to keep the garbage blocks coming. The most common ways to do this are to set up the field with either 3 or 4 empty spaces (sometimes with "donation" pieces like the I piece in the image below), and then once your stack is high enough, start comboing:

Tetris 99 will absolutely teach you how to play Tetris beyond just a casual level. You have to be actually good at Tetris to survive. Stuff like just going for back to back Tetris' will get you killed. It will teach you the importance of combos and T-spins. Tetris 99 is imo the best Tetris game ever released if you're into competitive Tetris. It has a solid competitive mode, the battle royal system works so well for Tetris.

Interesting. i think i naturally did that anyway. I tend to do decent in T99 but I have never won.

I tend to do OK in T99. I have had a couple top 10 finishes but I have never made it to the winners circle. I enjoy it but sometimes I feel like they just understand something i dont.

I'd really like to try it but I'm not buying a Switch for one multiplayer game.

I honestly don't care about how bad Abby looks, (the memes saved her and this game somewhat) or that Elly likes girls. Because I also like girls. I just think the game's story and how the characters act is really fucking stupid. Especially compared to the first game. Like shit man, they somehow made a game with more people being flat out retarded than Three Houses. This shouldn't matter because it is a videogame but at the same time people are playing this for the "story" so...yeah.

As for the politics part, hey at least cat will finally have more people to debate with.

Nikana Nikana just doing some more Tetris reading today and there was something I forgot to add to the T-Spin explanation, probably the main reason you would want to use them in multiplayer Tetris is that they send more garbage blocks than other types of line clears.

T-spins send twice the lines they clear as garbage. If you clear one line, you send two lines of garbage. At most you can clear three lines with a T-piece. This sends six lines of garbage, while a traditional ‘tetris’ clears four lines and sends for lines of garbage. Renaming modern Tetris to T-Spin would be very apt, given the prominence of that mechanic in high-level play. I dislike the idea of T-spins, or any spin that moves through obstacles. Allegedly, this feature was a programming bug at first and later promoted to a feature. Rewarding T-spins and not similar spins with other pieces that likewise clear lines and counterintuitively move through obstacles also seems arbitrary to me.

It seems like T-Spins are all the rage now because they are a high level garbage sending tool and competitive play is more popular than TGM style speed/score mastery.

I agree with him that it's stupid and arbitrary to single out the "T" spins and reward those, but not reward the same maneuvers with the I, J, L, S, and Z pieces.

Maybe thats why i lose high level play. I was going to jump into Tetris Effect last night in attempt to finally tackle this spin and I got busy. I just want to win one round of T99.

T-spins are cool but yeah it would be nice if the other shapes got a bonus, and/or if they added a special "Spin Attack Mode" that grants special attack-chains based on the shape you're spinning into place. I can envision some fanatics argue during an eSports event "L-spins followed by a pair of T-spins is a better strategy than two S-spins followed by an L spin" or something similar.

Play it! I like the Classic modes (Marathon, Ultra, Sprint, Master), but I think that the gimmicky ones further down are built for training certain aspects of play.

Purify is good for learning how to deal with cleaning up messy stacks, Target is good for learning how to fix specific types of mistakes and training yourself to see potential lines that are not just part of the stack body, Combo is good for practicing combos quickly, All Clear introduces you to the many of the types of "Spin" maneuvers you can do, and then Countdown & Mystery mode are sort of fun challenges to tackle once you are good at the game.

Got up to 253 on the Master Mode leaderboard last night, I really want to get in the top 100.

I played it after GB praised it and I was looking for more PSVR content. ANd i enjoyed it but it got dropped and Im not sure why. After playing TLOU II i need something on total opposite spectrum so once I sit down and jump in I think itll hook me.

Hey DunDunDunpachi DunDunDunpachi quick joystick question, do you know if all square Sanwa restrictor gates are able to have the centre hole rotated? I have one in my JLF at home and I'll check tonight but I can't remember. I want to start using my stick for TGM, and the typical setup for that is a 4 way diamond gate. I'm seeing these Sanwa gates online that allow you to simply rotate the centre hole independent of the main gate orientation for square or diamond setups, I can't seem to find one that doesn't look like that and I'm wondering if I'm good to go.

What are bad things you've done? When I worked at a retail store when I was younger I got a bad raise I felt was unjustified. (8 cents) So I started taking merchandise I wanted.

Totally illegal and not a good excuse but I was young and dumb.

Someone confess.

Oh Lord; too many to count.

Here's a good one: Ran a theft/resale scheme with my partner in middle school; the Detroit metro area is chock full of "party stores" which is like slightly shady corner shops that sell a bunch of random shit. One of us would talk to the guy behind the counter while the other would snag the type of shit middle school boys would want. A kid in 6th grade would pay 10-15 bucks to get a porno or mini bottle of Jack to show off to his friends. So we'd hit up a different party store a couple times a week and take a couple things every time. There are so many that we might not hit the same place but once a year, so we never got busted.

Did you spend the money at an arcade?
