Just curious where you are actually seeing any of this, on this forum or otherwise? I don't see this anywhere and I frequent some places a little further right than Gaf. I tend to see more violence talk from alt/far left sources than I do "alt-rights", I don't even know where they visibly are tbh or what people think that even means anymore.

Not here. I’ve seen it from time to time, even on something as milquetoast as The Donald. Proclamations of desired violence, murder, etc., that’s really detailed, over the top, and disturbing.

And yeah, the left is self-evidently bad with that. A nuance left out of my post.

That is her theology/ideology however, and relevant, brought up with the intention to show that the world is made of a wide variety of people, worldviews, and personalities.

Being like Ailynn is neither an option, or desirable, for some of us, when we read about things like small children murdered, or cops executed, or the perversion/removal of our very history/culture, for just a very small taster of This decade’s excesses.

That’s okay. Ailynn will do her Ailynn thing. We’ll do ours. We all have our own ways of responding to these things, and processing them.

I don't think anyone is saying we should be okay with that stuff happening and not say anything, just that reading about any racist or call to violence towards someone or a group of people doesn't really reflect us overall as a community and can makes it feel less welcoming for others. Especially when talking about politics, people can be very... passionate, and I think the idea is just that it's always better to discuss what was said instead of who said it. I imagine the people who even frequently post in Politics do so because they enjoy a good debate and they shouldn't lose sight of that.

I didn't imply you were saying anything racist. Sorry. I was thinking about Politics since that was the section being referred to originally ("99.9% of my GAF time is in the Politics sub-forum, so this is where my observations are coming from", as he put it). I simply lumped the users who were banned for being racist with those who might encourage violence or shill for China as they're all bad influences.

Hi,

I considered making a dedicated thread to raise this observation but felt as it was commentary on GAF itself I should maybe try airing it here first of all - even if the audience for it is not entirely apt.

Short version:
I keep seeing instances of people here losing some humanity and a whole lot of compassion.

Longer version:
99.9% of my GAF time is in the Politics sub-forum, so this is where my observations are coming from.
Real world events are frequently reported and discussed, many of them concerning violent incidents.
Increasingly I'm seeing more responses to events where partisan lines are drawn and where the most extreme of views has gone from "Lock them up and throw away the key" to "Give them a bullet".
I appreciate that things out there in the real world are tumultuous and have been escalating in 2020, it's a bit of a worry to see these escalations reflected with GAF comments.
GAF doesn't seem to me to be a place for radicalisation of anyone, and I do have great faith in the Mods' light-but-effective touch.

I just don't think this is a healthy path to go down and we've all seen more extreme versions of where this can lead.

I'm not sure what solution there may be. Or even if people think I'm just seeing stuff that isn't there (maybe I am). I don't want to control speech. I don't want to limit anyone's freedom of expression. But I also don't want to see people forget their humanity and compassion.

I've noticed this too. From time to time I chime in with replies like "You don't really mean that" or "These are your fellow citizens, friends, and family too" or "Generalizing actions of individuals as indicative of a group is the same logical fallacy that leads people to condemn little old grandma for voting for Trump because it must be the case that all Trump voters are horrible people". I don't want to start sounding like a broken record, however, so I mostly roll my eyes and move along.

Beat Suikoden 1 again missed 10 characters. It was fun but I wouldn't recommend it. Too many lil frustrating things like not explaining items well. How long it takes to switch characters.
