Metal Gear Solid V PC Performance Thread

speaking of nvidia options, i want to see if they'll at least get hbao+ in there. or soft shadows, mmm...

and some fucking tessellation at last.

My PC used to do that, but I had a loose connection to my PSU.
There's no shutdown notification. While playing, my display turns off, my xbox360 controller loses connection, and then the display turns back on and the computer boots up. This is the first time anything like this has ever happened. It's only while I'm playing GZ too.

my pc often does that when it overheats after around 6 hours of non stop gaming, its like its saying stop playing now

That's so weird. I've never had an overheating issue before GZ. I'm going to run some temp tests. I posted in the techsupport GAF thread so I wouldn't clutter up this thread with my issue.

Tried just the first 10 minutes.

i5 2500K@4.4 GHz
8 GB DDR3 1600 MHz
GTX 970 Twin Frzr V

1080p, everything maxed, I'm getting peachy 60 FPS.
Am I missing some options or 120Hz are not supported?

Bingo.

You can only choose between a capped 60 or a locked 30 FPS experience.

Probably the only minor fly in the ointment of the glory that is this port (at least for NVIDIA users). Next to the fact that the Screen Filtering option controls about 3 settings which should be seperated out.

AMD 5770
i5 3470 3.20
4GB ram

wtf im actually very surprised my shitty pc was able to run this game without problems....

I just started playing and I've had 2 driver crashes. I'm guessing it's not a widespread issue based on the overall positive reaction to the port. I'm on the 347.09 beta driver. I'm using dual GTX 970s in SLI. One strange thing about the driver crashes and recover is that the one thing that does not recover is the HDMI audio drivers. I have to disable and reenable the Nvidia High Definition Audio in the Device Manager to get HDMI audio back.

Edit:

I disabled Rivatuner overlay and haven't had an issue since, so hopefully that was it.

With that card you can easily downsample to at least 1440p and still maintain 60 fps. Aliasing will improve noticeably ;)

They are charging quite a lot for the Japanese version :(

It is cheaper than on Japanese PSN at the moment (2,551yen ) because of the Holiday sale. I can buy the PS4 retail version for 1,846yen new or 1,049yen used.

My question: can I switch between Japanese and English audio/text on the fly?

You can, but you need to dl 2gigs everytime you switch

Yeah that blur effect is so annoying that I set Screen Filtering at low or off just to get rid of it. I wish I can have that reflective water effect though. Crazy that they lump them together like that.

Is anyone able to disable Aero thru the .exe options? I have both 'disable visual themes' and 'disable desktop composition' checked, but they don't work.

To anyone using DSR, in this game or in general; do you use the smoothness setting at all? If you do, what % is usually optimal? I run this game at DSR 1440p but it just doesn't look that great (a kinda fuzzy, almost aliased looking) but I also have the smoothness at 0%.

I have it at 20%. Looks great to me, but I can also imagine this differs from game to game.

I have mine at 15. 20 is too blurry for me and 0 is too jaggy.

I'm still unable to play this game because it overheats my CPU... only few games seem to do it (recent ones) but Ground Zeroes gets the temperature to critical levels the fastest by far. Game must be really pushing those cores hard (i5-2500)

I tried manually forcing all fans to 100% speed but it didn't help. I should try disabling Turbo Boost and see if that keeps the temps lower and doesn't hamper performance in the game too much... until I get a new CPU cooler.

Edit: disabling Boost didn't help. Processor still got hot just as quickly... with up to ~75% CPU usage in the first scene.

i got a core i5 2500 too, yeah it gets hot pretty qucik too, this games stess test my pc, it gets restarted after playing this game for long

Mmmh... could it be that your CPU has too much dust ? Before I upgraded, my old GPU would go up to 100°c fast... it was dust in the cooler.

Do you have Intel Desktop Utilities installed? If it weren't for it I wouldn't have known it was getting hot until it restarted probably. The app pops out a warning when the temp reaches 88c.

It doesn't look particularly dusty to me and I did use an air blower on it, but can't tell for sure without taking it apart and I can't do that until I have thermal paste to reapply.

Isn't Intel Turbo Boost some sort of automatic overclock or something? Maybe try to manually overclock your CPU? It should never get any hotter playing games than the hottest temparatures you've ever reached during stresstesting (with software like OCCT and Prime95).

It's running well on my i5 4440 and 7950 in 1080p. Got everything on max apart from Shadows, Filtering and SSAO which are one step down from max. Some dips to 55 but it's a pretty solid 60.

My CPU is not unlocked and can't be overclocked. Also Prime95 gets it crazy hot in no time. Anyway this is really getting off topic for this thread :)

Intel's stock coolers are shit, you should consider upgrading if it's becoming a big problem. Basically ANYTHING is better than stock

Hey guys i'm running a AMD 7870 2 GB card, I am having an issue when i turn shadows on to extra high the frame rate drops to 4 fps. I tried turning down textures down to high and it still does it. Is this a game issue or a driver issue as I just upgraded to the OMEGA driver.

Regardless the stock cooler shouldn't have any issues with non-OC'd CPUs.

Yeah it's probably the thermal paste I think. It's been more than 4 years without replacing it. I bought some today and will do my first ever cleaning and "reseating" of the cooler. I hope that fixes it.

so my 6 gigs of ram is not cutting it anymore, this game has hit my memory limit and started using the page file =(. Guess it's time to retire my computer. Gaming laptop here i come

I ran it on a PC with 4GB RAM earlier, albeit at low as that machine only had a 7770.

1st: game needs more than 6 gig?

2nd: you want to retire your Pc because you don't have enough ram?

3rd: gaming laptop? O_o

if not, you won't buy the game, or what are you implying?

I built my PC in 2007, I need something mobile soon. Probably going to scavenge the drives and get a gaming laptop.

Any chance of getting 30fps at 4k on a 970? Any 4k benchmarks?

I get 24-35 fps at 4k max settings on my 970, mostly the low points are 28fps . The drops to 24/25 come when you look through binoculars and possibly in a crowded shoot out with lots of lights around. I turned shadows and screen filtering down to high and it sits above 30 easily.

A small overclock and dropping the odd setting should do the trick. Very playable though at 4K. The dips weren't too bad and maybe a 1500Mhz OC might be good for a 30 lock if you can't drop a setting down a notch.

Get between 32 and 45 FPS 1080p high settings (lighting extra high) on my ultrathin laptop. (i5 4210U, GTX 850M) I locked it at stable 30 FPS, Game looks really good.

I already own the game, I'm asking if I can run it at 4k cause I just ordered a new TV and I'm waiting for it to arrive.

Cheers mate, exactly what I'm looking for. I don't mind dropping a few settings to get a stable 30. I bet it looks incredible at 4k?
