Metro Redux: Uncovered - A look at Redux

Looks like alot of effort went into this remaster. I'll check out these games for the first time in a few weeks

Just got home from work, really pumped to see 4A finally dishing out some more details. Need some material for the OT!

While I'm in here, if any of you are interested in collaborating on the upcoming OT then let me know! Would love the extra help...

Probably gonna need it.

What I'm seriously in shock about is how the Redux games are running at 1080p at 60FPS with quality equal to High settings on a Playstation 4.

Most mid-range PC graphics cards which are supposed to be superior than the console equivalents* (750Ti, 660, 270X) can't run Last Light (High-Very High) at above 45 FPS.

Unless I'm missing something, it seems as though 4A Games have optimized the games for PC a lot more than they're letting on. Anyone have any ideas?

If this is true, I'm glad developers are able to get a lot more out of the current gen and am curious to see how much more can be squeezed from the PS4 tech.

Thought exactly the same thing. If you look at the cpu requirements on redux they are lower than LL. Good news for both pc owners and console owners if this title is better optimized. I bet we will see less cpu dependence on cross platform titles due to the nature of the current Gen hw

Amazing how much work 4A Games put into this. I actually said "wow" out loud a few times during the footage.

I already own both games on 360, but I will absolutely be buying them again for PS4. It really looks like 4A has gone above and beyond here, and they deserve to be recognized and rewarded for it. So many enhancements and additions beyond just graphics. Really impressive.

after watching that trailer this game for 50 bucks seems cheap lol, all the things they upgraded and added is crazy, will be buying for sure

Lots of love and care clearly put into this. I've never had much interest in the Metro series despite owning both games due to PS+ and Steam, but this looks amazing and I'll definitely pick it up for PS4.

I'm so looking forward to get those two. Just finished both games on the PC for the second time, and the experience was even greater than on my first playthrough. Metro LL just became my favorite shooter.

Wow, this a good remaster! Wasnt following the news but I will keep an eye on that.

Edit: Just watched the gamersyde video, and it seems amazing! I may buy this one!!

Welp good thing I'm a MS expert zone member. I can get a $50 live gift card for only $20. Finally a new game to play on my x1 while I play diablo 3 on ps4.

watched the 60 fps version of the trailer have had an erection for the past 3 hours, i may have to go to the hospital

Redux looks too bright!

You mean the outdoors compared to the darker original? I actually prefer it like this. Looks so good with their better lighting engine. But yeah of course it is subjective and I understand. The old version has a noticeably more in-your-face bleakness to it.

God. Damn.

2 excellent games getting the remaster they deserve. 2033 sounds the most exciting - the game was great but was definitely a little weak in the game play department, really excited to try it out with all of the new mechanics from Last Light.

How can you check your ammo ib ranger?

With respect to Ranger Hardcore... In 2033, you can refer to your clipboard for ammo counts. In M:LL, however, there's no way to get an ammo count outside of the shopping interface, which many people felt was a silly oversight. It's my hope that they've either implemented the 2033 system or added an animation to "glance in pack and count the number of magazines" or something.

Note that the above also applies to:

1.) the number of filters you're carrying, so you'll never know for sure if you have more than 5:00 of air at any given time.

2.) which consumable you have selected, so you have to know in advance the sound it makes when selected and proceed accordingly.

In practice, these are minor issues but I sincerely hope they're fixed in the remaster.

New Gameplay (15 min)

Honestly this things are what i want

Extra animations where u can check your supplies and shit

Then ranger is a perfect mode

Well, I'm sold. Never played Metro before but I've always heard good things about it. The fact that I can get both for the less than a new game is also incredible.

If I loved Last Light, is it recommended to play 2033?

Absolutely. Some find the first one frustating due to glitchy A.I, but now that redux is coming this month you should absolutely play 2033. Improvements that they listed should make it a more enjoyable and less frustrating experience, now with very noticeably better graphics.

Awesome! Will pick it up as well then.

A very wise decision my friend! The story and the overall campaign and atmosphere was already really good in 2033, but stealth was really frustrating because the A.I kept glitching and once someone spotted you, everyone knew exactly where you were. This should not be the case anymore, thanks to the better A.I. And again, the visuals are just gorgeous now. Some really sharp textures in 2033:redux, especially the ground textures.

Was not interested in the game before this trailer.

The atmosphere looks so good, and they seem to have put a lot of effort into this.

Definetely picking up the game whenever I buy a current gen console.

Watched the 15 minutes of gameplay by IGN, and it looks awesome.
Well, since Evolve got delayed and I lost my interest for Destiny, I guess this year I may be able to get Forza Horizon 2, Sunset Overdrive, Halo MCC, Metro Redux and maybe (if it turns out to be good) Shadow of Mordor. =)

Wait, are these cheaper on steam if the originals are owned? Looks to be the case...

Also, I wonder if it will replace my current copy in the list.

are these games open world like fallout?

I want to play these but it's releasing too close to destiny. so I would actually prefer a linear-ish play through to get through both games in like 2 weekends

Nope, they are linear, story driven games. Very good ones, at that.

Just a few answers :

@Ivanl "Should these be more or less demanding than their originals?"

We dropped 32-bit support for Redux, and made a few more optimizations for PC.

As such, both 2033 Redux and Last Light Redux should be a little less demanding than the original Last Light, which in turn was a stratospheric improvement over the original 2033...

@HiddenForbiddenHolyGround - no, trophies do not carry over. Many are the same, we cut some and added a few others...

@Vash63 - yes, our Linux versions of Redux will use some Open GL 4+ and be nigh on indistinguishable (we hope) from the top of the line DX11

@boneso - yes, V-Synch option for both games
Are you saying Redux will run better than the original 2033? Because that one ran acceptably well for me. Interest rising to the stratosphere.

I have not played either of the games. I may consider this. Depending on when Target has their anual buy 2 get one free, I may pick this up.

I own Metro 2033 on Steam. It runs quite well maxed out on my current PC, outdoors areas it chugs a bit.

Yet, this trailer sold me. Gonna buy it on PS4 for that 60fps smoothness.

Finally got around to watching the trailer on Gamersyde and damn does it look nice. I can't wait to revisit 2033 in the new engine and gameplay framework... there was a lot to love about that game but it was hidden behind some rough edges.

Need some more gifs in here of those before/afters!

I'm REEAAALLY looking forward to this, yet I forgot about it recently. Excited to have another game to play in August.

I played a bit of 2033, but never touched Last Light.

I love remasters.
