Metroid Prime: Federation Force - Story Trailer

It will be a very full spin off metroid game, we'll have our mainline metroid game on the future for sure :)
We have to support this to show that we like the metroid universe.

Basically what Nintendo does will their main franchises.

Can't believe I'm not picking up a Metroid game day 1 or ever...
Will wait to see what impressions are here.

Not hopeful.

Wait, this drops in August? Thought it was a September launch. Usually I'd feel more surprised by a game coming out sooner than expected, but... Look at it. Nintendo's not even putting in the energy to push this; it's just a sunk cost.

Samus begs to differ.

Where's she at, though?

Prime timeline is from way before that phrase is uttered tho, isn't it?

Just like me calling "Alolan Forms" "Delta Types," I will refuse to acknowledge that Prime and the 2D Metroids are different timelines and will keep on saying it until it's canon.

Even if they did take place in the same timeline then it would still be before Super Metroid. The Prime games were meant to be set in between the first and second games.

Fed Force takes place after Prime 3, but indeed before Metroid II. So yes ^^

Prime anything is only connected to Prime only. It's like how Kojima games are not connected to stuff like Portable Ops or Revengance.

Prime is a spinoff of Metroid

Official Mainline Goes
Metroid 1: Zero Mission
Metroid 2
Super Metroid 3
Metroid 4: Fusion
Metroid 5: The Other M

Your timeline is a bit messy.

Zero Mission
Prime Trilogy
Metroid 2
Super Metroid
Metroid Fusion

That's a lot cleaner isn't it?

I know that is what has been said, but lets be frank here, Sakamoto and Other M can bugger off, and the Prime games are iconic and the first two could be easily considered the best title in the series.

Plus the prime series fitting in makes more sense than Other M in its entirety.

Since when?

Since Sakamoto decided to annex the prime series from canon entirely in some interview somewhere, to try and account for some of the plot holes he added with other M.

To that I say, he can shove it. If anything has to be removed from canon, it's far easier to remove other M (and less self destructive to the series) than the 4 Metroid Prime games (1/2/3/hunters)

It's not that the Prime games aren't canon, they're just considered a "side story" to the main series, that's all. It's how Nintendo has always viewed the series in a way. You can see this in Smash Bros., where Samus's powersuit is always based on the latest "mainline" Metroid game at the time (Super Metroid in 64/Melee, Zero Mission in Brawl, and Other M in Smash 4).

It's like with Jurassic World. It doesn't really make mention of either The Lost World or Jurassic Park 3 besides a few sight gags, but it doesn't decanonise them either. It's just that they aren't really important to the plot of the film in the same way the first Jurassic Park is.

Despite what people said about MPHunters I enjoyed the game. I'm not a fan of MPFF chibi-low poly look though am willing to give it a go as a Metroid title if it's in my budget. If not then if I see it on sales months after release. I bought The Other M for $5-10.

Nice, clean, simple, and perfect.

Though, for those critical of the lack of "story"... isn't that a GOOD thing?

Sum up Metroid 1: Samus must stop Mother Brain and the Space Pirates.
Sum up Metroid 2: Samus blows up all Metroids...
Sum up Super Metroid: ... but one, and that one got captured. Go get it back.
Sum up Metroid Prime: Samus stuck on planet. Finds aliens. Kills them.
Sum up Metroid Prime 2: Samus goes to rescue soldiers. They dead. Samus decides to rescue planet that killed them.
Sum up Metroid Prime: Hunters: Hunters try and find macguffin. Samus beats them to it.
Sum up Metroid Prime 3: Phazon going to nuke galaxy. Samus fights back.
Sum up Metroid Fusion: Samus and computer find out the Federation sucks. Kills their plans.
Sum up Metroid: Other M: It's Metroid Fusion, but worse.

Metroid has never had a "deep" plot. They're pretty backseat to the gameplay and action (Other M notwithstanding).

I actually think the chibi-style art direction is fine, at least the enemy design. It's everything else i take issue with.

Since when?

Since Sakamoto said so. After Prime 1, the series became its own thing and became at odds with the main series in terms of setting, enemies and so on.

But people took it as a stab towards the Prime series, when actually lots of series do that, even beyond gaming (super hero comics).

Other M is set between Super Metroid and Fusion.

I hope this game bombs. I hope it gets terrible scores. And I hope it loses money.

Yes, I mean all of that.

No, I won't feel bad about projects failing, particularly ones that I think are terrible in the name of Metroid. Give me a break.

Completely agree. Next Level and Nintendo will both survive just fine, and they may just learn something from this.

There's no sense in hoping poor products succeed.

What if the game gets GREAT scores? What if it then sells well.? What if it's successful AND players enjoy it?

WHAT THEN?!

(I'm giving it a fair shot. I mean, geez, dude. I bought Metroid Prime Pinball. Spin-offs are cool.)

What's the point of having everything connect? If it did, the 4 Primes and mp game would be a laundry list of lore on top of an overall story arch. Would just contradict.

Spinoffs are fine when the main line series actually get titles. I don't think anyone is pissed at Pokemon Picross for example.

I really enjoyed the training stuff in the Blast Ball demo so I'm hyped to play this one, though I'll likely be waiting for the holidays to include in a Buy 2, Get 1 Free sale.

there's a French interview where Yoshio Sakamoto says this:

Pourquoi avoir choisi de commencer ce jeu par une cinématique reprenant la fin de Super Metroid ? Cela veut-il dire que les Metroid Prime n’étaient qu’une parenthèse dans la chronologie de la saga ?

Y. Sakamoto : Je n’irai pas jusque-là. Il ne faut pas exclure les épisodes Prime de la chronologie.

lit: "Interviewer: Why does the game begin with a flashback to Super Metroid? Does that mean the Metroid Prime games are simply an aside in the series timeline? - Sakamoto: I wouldn't go that far. The Prime games shouldn't be excluded from the timeline."

That is one ugly-looking game. Granted, looks might not be everything, but this trailer gave me zero boost toward being interested in buying it.

I tried the demo, the artstyle is not very "Metroid" but it looks good for a 3DS title. Of course it's going to look like butt on a big youtube window, it's still a 240p game, but it's not bad on the console screen compared to other 3DS titles.

Other M contradicts the entire Prime series AND its own Sakamoto-developed games. There are so many contradictions that Other M introduces, even if you take out the Prime games.

But the "overall story arc" is sort of nonsense. Even Sakamoto admitted that and outright admitted that he never gave Samus's personality or the story such serious consideration before Other M came along (I'll try and find the exact quote). That shows, since so much of her past, history, and personality are incongruent with prior games.
