Metroid Prime: Federation Force - Story Trailer

Even watching FF is more fun than playing Retro's Prime series. I was just playing Prime 3 to find redeeming qualities. Nope, that Brryo mission where I had to destroy the gun towers was quite possibly the worst torture I experienced in a shooting game. Those enemies which take so many hits, fly around, respawn nonstop, and reset the switches annoyed the hell out of me. There's no way NLG could make anything so much more horrible than that.

Did you faced bryyo final boss?, thats was the true nightmare of the game

I can't remember. I might have years ago when I bought the game on the wii and then sold it. I keep thinking this game could be cool because I like the level designs, alien planets, Samus's armor, wii controls, and fps formula. Everything else is terrible. Bland enemies, traveling back and forth is just not as fun as wandering around one big opened up map, objectives don't have any payoff. Nothing about the game is epic or exciting. It's just one big pain in the ass. Metroid Prime 2 is the same way. I can't remember Prime 1 being this bad, but it didn't blow me away either. The end had some cryptic collecting mission I believe that made me go nuts. Maybe Retro's game philosophies are too hardcore for me. I consider myself a hardcore, but this is too much work.

I honestly doubt that Fed Force is going to be a disaster on the level of Other M, let alone Star Fox 0 or Triforce Heroes.

At the very least, it'll be decent.

wut

EDIT: No, seriously, what? Other M is infinitely worse that Star Fox Zero and Tri Force Heroes. I mean, what?

Honestly, Triforce Heroes is the game this is shaping up to have the most in common with. It also wasn't a disaster.

I'm an easy person to impress because I thought all those games were good. It would take a lot for me to be hard on a game. So far, I'm liking FF more than all 3 of those games. Who knows, opinion could change once I beat the final copy. Things happen that piss me off when I delve into a game. Those 2 screen SF boss battles invented a new kind of frustration. I will forgive if the some of the game is not frustrating, tedious, or bland. Those are the top 3 things to consider when judging a bad game. Not art style, graphics, and brand spinoff.

Yeah, It's basically Metroid Heroes. Mario Bros arcade will prob spinoff a coop MP mission based game. A Donkey Kong 1980s 4 player co-op too. This is a pattern. Nintendo likes co-op mp rather than mainly competitive. It's more family friendly.

Gameplay looks like utter ass so I doubt I'll miss anything by skipping this. At least there's AM2R and the prime trilogy.

When's the embargo up?

Someone in here mentioned Thursday, so a day before the game releases.

I can't imagine Nintendo has big expectations for how it reviews. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of reviews haven't already been set in stone with the more fan-run websites and they're filling in whatever details are necessary to show that they actually played the game. From what I've been able to tell with where I work, they're also giving it a really, really small print run, and I think there might actually be some areas where there will be shortages. Nintendo accepted the game's fate months ago, but it's still pretty sad and pathetic to see it all play out this way.

From what I heard, it wont review well.

I'm not surprised to hear that. The Nintendo Minute footage seemed to be more focused on all the puzzle-solving than the combat situations, which I don't think will play well with a lot of reviewers. Combine that with crappy production values, and you've got a game that's trying to ice-skate uphill.

It's going to be mediocre but as its a spinoff it could never be as insulting as Other M.

Anecdotally from a friend, they're not stocking many more copies of it than Style Savvy. But that's 1 store out of thousands, and if it reviewed well, might be a FE:Awakening situation (I think it's gonna sell worse than Other M)

Here's the intro

I didn't want to read the whole thing due to spoilers, so I jumped around a little bit and saw Phaaze mentioned, so that should confirm the obvious that it is set after Prime 3.

There isn't much in terms of spoilers, aside from yes taking after Prime 3, the premise they offer in terms of the galaxy after Prime 3 is somewhat interesting, however the gameplay following that premise is still nothing interesting for me.

I just hope everyone that wants a Metroid game and will not be picking up Federation Force spends money on the Metroid Prime Trilogy on the eShop. Or any of the past Metroid games on the eShop if you haven't already got them. I know myself I'll be replaying through the Prime trilogy again and finally picking up Super Metroid on the 3DS instead of spending money on Federation Force

i will say this again but that Zelda engine is perfect for a Metroid space exploration game...too bad Nintendo wont share it with Retro though.

Federation Force |OT| Metroid Prime Fanbase Corruption

It will review well by those reviewing it for what it is. Those expecting to hate, will point out everything as a flaw.

We'll see. There will be reviews that dislike it for not being Metroid, and there will be reviews that want to spite the backlash (ala DmC) but I'm expecting the general consensus to be mediocre. Not outright bad, but not anything hugely special either.

This. And play the remake of 2 if you were lucky enough to download it before Nintendo taking it down.

There's a story?

Will play it, but it still looks pretty goofy to be honest. But the first-person gameplay also looks fun in a slightly bastardized Prime kinda way.

The only Metroid games I haven't bought on VC are...
- Metroid 1 (3DS Ambassador, also bought on Wii)
- Metroid Fusion (3DS Ambassador)
- Hunters
- Pinball (If it's been released)

I won't buy Other M, though.

Nintendo just posted 17 minutes of mission mode gameplay.

I'm sure NLG put together a competent game, it's the community I have no faith in. Worse case scenario, if people are as annoying as they were in Tri Force Heroes and the single player mode just as bad, I'll return it to Best Buy for a small loss.

I can vouch for the even-tinier shipment of that game, too. It's basically pre-order only.

The second mission reminds me of Silver's Billiard Ball puzzle from Sonic 2006.

Didn't even watch that far the first time - checking it out now and god, that looks atrocious. Puzzles like that have never been fun.

hell the environment is even similar to how it was at that section of Sonic 06. Only notable improvement is that you seem to have unlimited chances to hit it. Maybe this is all one elaborate joke.

Everything in the game is scaled around the mech and not the humans inside, so these massive drop ships are in fact HUGE if you think about the player and not the mech.

It's a huge mess.
It also means that the metroids you see in this game are bigger than the one at the end of Super.

Are people shitting on Mogenar? What the fuck.

He's easily in the top 5 best MP bosses.

I just beat him. Wasn't that bad because I tend to like puzzle bosses. What sucks even more about this game, I was starting to like it again, but then I ran around in circles being mislead all around the map. Turned out I had to visit an area called the transit hub where I already fought a mini boss at. Out of nowhere it wanted me to warp into a ball without seeing a hole to enter into. The spot looks like it blends in with everything. There was no hints at where to go. It just said return to ship and kill Ghor and get his arm cannon thing. I've never had this type of misleading in Super Metroid, Other M, Zero Mission, Fusion, AM2R. I've always figured out where to go eventually by filling out unexplored sections of the maps.

Prime 3 has a hint system though. A rather generous one at that.

Use the scan visor if it seems like you've hit a dead end. Look around with the normal visor too for stuff like conspicuous platforms.

He's infamously long and difficult in Hyper Mode. I still like him though.

I've downloaded Metroid Blast demo yesterday, and I must say - it changed my interest in Federation Force from "nah, I'll pass" to "looks interesting so I'll probably get this".
I don't expect much from FF either way, shame that it's not a single player experience. But Metroid Blast looks cool enough to me to try it.

I use the hint system and log books. I scan most of the environments. These little cracks in the wall are too misleading. Too hardcore for me. I hate it.

If the game is good I think it will pull good reviews. I really don't think most reviewers are going to say "It's not Prime 4, so it's garbage." The game may just end up not being very good. Based on that Nintendo minute it might be ok if you're playing with someone in the same room but I imagine it could get real frustrating playing online like Tri-Force Heroes was at times.

I don't remember him being that bad as long as you stay on top of the ports. The foot phase is really a matter of timing hyper mode injections to negate the damage and switching back before you get hit with a purge notification.

It does have singleplayer, for what it's worth. I actually don't know how that works out.
