MGSV - The little gameplay details that caught your attention

In any Extract the Wandering MotherBase Soldier, you can simply use your iDroid's loudspeaker while playing in loop a certain tape. They'll come to you looking curious, then you just have to grab and choke them.

The tape is
the one Paz gives you.

Yeah, this has been mentioned a few times. You can also wait a few seconds for them to salute you and then fulton them without having to grab them. This works with both versions of the song. Approaching them in a box does the same.

If you shoot
the red light on the AI pod, it will cycle rainbow colours instead (I only found this out on top of the R&D platform after Huey left).

I have no idea what the point of it is!

If you invade or defend a FOB, wounded soldiers get comforted by their comrades who say, "Hang in there. It's gonna be okay. Th-the medic will be here soon." ):

If you use the prosthetic arm's sonar function on Mother Base, soldiers who are close by will notice and salute you (which raises morale) even if they're above/below you or separated from you by a wall. Works from a decent distance (level three sonar, don't know if there's any more).

You don't even have to grab them, they eventually salute you and say "I always knew you'd come back"

Good to know!

MGS 5 has loads of little details, probably too many to count. The Box falling on your head as you stand under the sign at mother base, using the box to slide down hills, enemies using night vision if you keep doing missions at night, more helmets if you keep doing head shots ect, I wonder if there are many that haven't been found yet ?

i used them in mission 18 or 19 where you have to trail that guy in the car. When they were at the meeting point I got them both with a smoke nade, filtoned them and ran off, almost knocking over a guy I hadn't even seen. Perfect stealth, no kills, S rank lol

Ha - I did the exact same thing. Only problem was that one of the guards activated reflex mode before the smoke grenade went off because I was too close. Ended up getting shot once.

How do you defenestrate people? (Awesome word by the way.) I tried it before but he only drops them on the floor.

Use the throw button (Right Trigger) when facing a window. He'll chuck them out of it.

Yup, R2 to throw.

Try rescuing the (zomby-like) mother base soldiers while using a cardboard box....
One of the funniest and unexpected things that happened in my gamer career.

Also: poor DD being attacked by sheep. I don't have to stress that my retaliation was a bloody mess

I just learned this but there is another way to beat
The Man on Fire for Mission 20-21 "Voices" i think

You can use the Tier 3 Stun arm which if you charge it fully you do a lightning strike that will hit him and kill him the same way "Volgin" died in MGS3

My conclusion to that fight is probably really obvious but I thought it was quite cool. I knew I had to stun him with water but after destroying the water towers and all other sources of water that I could find I ended up running around clueless for ages. I took so long that it eventually began to rain and that scared him away.

Also, using night vision goggles allows you to see the psychomantis-like person that follows him around.

Had a truck run over a patrol.

The npc interactions afterwards were hilarious. One guard that witnessed the whole thing facepalmed verbally.

So I parked my jeep in a roadway and transport truck came up on it and ran into it. I've seen them do this like 50 times now where they get out and call the CP and he's just like, "uhhhh. Find another route." I usually have already fultoned the guards by this point, but this time I felt like screwing around.

The guard went to my jeep and looked at it and kept kicking up dust in frustration over his situation. After a while my jeep just randomly exploded. No damage or anything on it. Just boom.

There is another cool way to beat him.

I was running around looking for water and found myself in a big puddle. He appeared to come attack me, and I blew up a tanker behind him that flung him face down into the puddle, causing him to dissipate and disappear.

I just used D Dog to stun a dog in Africa. I thought they would get into a fight and D Dog would lose because the other dog is wild, to my suprise the dog ran away from D Dog. African Wild dogs 0,D Dog +1

Watching the dog run away was hilarious only because the reaction to D Dog was unexpected.

I tried this earlier in Afghanistan against wolves during my playthrough but D Dog didn't listen after repeated attempts.

Tried again today, D Dog grabs the other dog by the throat with his jaws, holds it down and stuns it. Dog 0, D Dog +2

Bear ignored D Dog though and came after me anyway. Not only that, the Bear ran into D Dog trying to hit me and D Dog wimpered so, Bear + 1, D Dog 0.

it's more of a funny anecdote ...

when i first crashed into a power pole, i was in a jeep with dd. the sound it makes kinda sounds like a fart being ripped. i honestly thought kojima implemented dd to fart in the car...didn't question it for one second.

another detail is that I like how sensitive the game is to piercing and bullet velocity, or I guess "Defense" ratings (and headgear 'type') and then also a gun's Damage, Penetration, and I support Impact...

like, if you use a light firing rifle like the Bamenov (the Russian semi-auto sniper rifle), you can shoot 3 guys in the head 13 times in a row (well I missed once haha) before you finally knock off their helmets and kill them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvqzZnT0Tjw

but if you use the anti-material rifle, instead of just staggering them, it can knock them on their ass... and sometimes it will actually pierce or just outright penetrate the helmet on the very first shot (instead of taking 1-3 like a light sniper rifle)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-XhBphvgA4

(not the best vid for the anti-material, just a quick example)

so, it seems like it's not just a sort of black and white thing where X rifle does this to helmets and Y rifles does that... it's really rather senstive to very specific amounts of Damage, Penetration, Impact Power, and basically scales very minutely so that you can really progress from light staggering, heavy staggering, knocks the enemy over, and also taking 3, 2, 1 or even 0 shots to knock off a helmet (or a knee pad) based on the stats

so it's a cool detail that it's rather specific in how to determines armor, piercing, and staggering

I just learned this but there is another way to beat

(Mission 20 spoilers btw)

lol so that's why I was able to beat him haha i just realize Miller even begins to say "that'll only stop him" before getting cut off by another comment trigger, I guess he was going to say 'that'll only stop him for a moment'

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E822qW3D2HA

when I did it, I figured I'd try that too since my rockets obviously weren't working (I air dropped rockets because the first time I saw that area, so big and empty... I felt it must be for a boss fight hahaha sadly I didn't know it was rocket-imune Man On Fire :p), but for some reason (I caught fire I guess) my first charge missed and then maybe my 2nd charge wasn't long enough so it just stunned him? i didn't even realize it, really... I thought it failed :p i just said fuck it, i'm going to try running again haha but maybe that's why it worked that time because 'just running' failed me 2x before that so maybe that electricity stun is what bought me a little extra time

anyhow, as for another detail, trying to think of other little things that can go missed or misunderstood...
one sort of detail that's less cool and more useful is that every Resource has 2 types, MB Resource and FOB Resource (see the brackets on Resources, top and bottom bracketed numbers respectively), and containers stolen from SP go to MB and containers stolen from MP go to your FOB... basically it means that the stuff you still feel Afghanistan or Angola are rather safe from FOB invasion... there seems like a lot of misunderstanding about how resources are stored and stolen because I see some folks sometimes saying they're avoiding FOBs because they don't want their Fuel stolen, but it doesn't work like that per se... it's just your FOB Fuel that's at risk... well, and of course your soldiers ;p

I don't know if many know but there's a common practice of loading in tracer rounds as the last few rounds in a mag so you know that you're running out of ammo.

I haven't tested every weapon yet but assault rifles have them. This applies to the enemy as well. So if you see an enemy shoot at you and notice a few of the bullets are red, then you know he's about to run out of ammo and load in a new mag.

really? haha I always thought it was mostly practice on LMGs or AA to help with aiming

i don't know if I ever noticed that... and I get the Doberman emblem by far more than any other for my missions ;p (so much so I can't get myself to switch my Diamond Dogs emblem from a doberman to a hound -- just fits my character too much)

wonder if LMGs do it differently? i almost never use lmgs ;p

One thing I was surprised by is that if you ever manage to roll a Jeep, or even just lean it over too far, you'll just fall right out of it. That's what you get for not wearing a seatbelt, I suppose :p

All these fun and different ways of beating the
man on fire
and all I did was
get in a jeep and keep ramming him until he gets knocked into the reservoir.

In retrospect, I could have been more imaginative.

Shit, I guess there's no way to steal a gunship? I just tried, it was hovering during a mission. Ran around the chopper, the fulton opportunity never came up. Had to give the guy in a tower a nap to get close. The other thing I noticed which would be normal, the sound, sand and debris kicked up by the rotors allowed me to get close to chopper. A lot of games would have just detected you, "because you're there". Nice touch.

S ranked the mission and got the specialist I needed.

Btw, was using Quiet in game for a bit, cuz, I'm a scrub. Now that I'm somewhat better, m'effin D Dog for life.

When it's hovering low to the ground, you can attach C-4 to its wheels, at least.

Your cars go on cruise control when you bring up the idroid.

Super helpful when moving in between side ops and you want to mess with your deployments/cassettes without wasting time.

Are you sure? My understanding was just that they stopped accellerating, but didn't break either. So not cruise control so much as coast.
