Michael Bay said:
"When you see this movie, kids will believe one day that these turtles do exist, when we're done with this movie. These turtles are from an alien race, and they're going to be tough, edgy, funny, and completely lovable."

I hope that maybe he means that the mutagen comes from an alien race, and this could work in an Utrom/Krang angle. But I just don't think that's the case.

Edit:
Since people aren't familiar with the project-- Michael Bay will be producing the movie, not directing. The script is being written by André Nemec and Josh Appelbaum (Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol). No director's been named but Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles, Wrath of the Titans) is reportedly in talks.

People like to shit on Bay but his Transformers was no better or worse than any of the old cartoon versions. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

Until we see more, I'm going to go with he means the mutagen is from an alien source. Despite the fantears, his Transformers did follow a ton of the mythology faithfully and generally understood the point of it, even if it added new ideas.

Michael Bay, stop fucking around and destroying the childhood memories of every single American. Just give me my goddamn Bad Boys 3!!

That is some hopeful thinking to think that he meant TCRI.

Fuck man . . . . There was no way they were going to beat the original movie, but damn I don't like the sound of the alien race one bit.

No. No. No.

We've had Star Wars ruined. Indiana Jones had a terrible 4th movie that hurt the franchise.

But nobody better ruin the Turtles. Nobody.

I couldn't finish it. It was just noise. I had no bearings on what the hell was happening.

That was kind of the point of the film, but was also it's biggest flaw. I enjoyed it as I thought it gave the film a sense of realism and worked as a method to make the audience feel the same anxiety that the characters were experiencing.
