Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump’s longtime personal attorney, faced explosive claims about his business dealings on Tuesday, prompting AT&T and a company with ties to a Russian oligarch to acknowledge retaining him after the 2016 election.

In a seven-page document he distributed online, Avenatti claimed that the same Cohen bank account was involved in transactions totaling more than $4.4 million and made from October 2016 through January 2018. Those transactions included $200,000 from AT&T and some $500,000 in deposits from Columbus Nova, a company linked to Russian oligarch Viktor Vekselberg, who was sanctioned last month by the U.S. as punishment for Kremlin meddling in the U.S. election. The company on Tuesday said Vekselberg was not involved in the transactions.
Cohen also accepted nearly $400,000 from pharmaceutical giant Novartis between October 2017 and January 2018, according to Avenatti. A Novartis spokesman said the company was “still trying to assess the facts” and noted that any contractual agreements were made prior to the current chief executive officer’s tenure.
“Essentially it becomes foreign bribery, bribery by a foreign country. It is a corrupt payment to a sitting present,” said one person familiar with the Mueller investigation.

Mueller is investigating Russian-American contributions to Trump, including those made to the Trump’s inauguration committee. Investigators believe Vekselberg, 60, was one of several influential Russians who attended inaugural events.

Drain the swamp? Sure Donald.

I love how the left picks and chooses what to post as if Trump is the only corrupt person in the government. Hillary is completely crime free everyone! Trump is bad because CNN says so! Please believe!

So Avenatti writes up a statement, provides no proof, and the left have instant boners, cool.

Avenatti did not respond to questions from POLITICO, including a request to identify the source of his information.

It would not surprise me if he's on the DNC payroll, lol.

“as if Trump is the only corrupt person in the government”

Lmfao this is the excuse now along with a side of “but da left!” and “but Hilary!”

Well maybe Republicans should investigate Hilary since they control everything...oh wait

That still doesnt change what I said, he wrote a memo and provided no proof nor answered repeated requests.

I dont care to defend Cohen so you dont need to play "gotcha" with me lol

I think its safe to say Mueller knows about this and it will be fully investigated.

I know right! Those libtards. If only he was corroborated by the NYT, AT&T and Novartis themselves...

Stop this stupid partisan horseshit just because it’s your side doing it. We just had a Democrat AG accused of assaulting women. No side is free of pieces of shit. Let’s call a spade a spade; I’ll wait for more info but this looks bad. If we can’t hold our leadership accountable then America is fucked.

Really think deeply about what you’re doing here bucyou bucyou . You didn’t even bother to look deeper into this objectively. The first thing you did was downplay it then try to turn it around to “own tha other side lol” by saying how you wouldn’t be surprised if he was on DNC payroll. That’s really dumb. That kind of behavior is a cancer to this site and internet discussion in general.

But it does change what you said. Specifically about the Left having instant boners. The boners came from Cohen's attorney and AT&T confirming it. And Novartis too. Which is a pretty big.

At this point, the thing is, it goes beyond a Left and Right thing. This is about a sitting president, whose personal lawyer set up a shell company that paid off a porn star for her silence. That took money from big corporations and Russian oligarchs. AT&T stopped the payments right around the time, DOJ stopped the Time Warner deal. Whataboutism doesn't help at all here. This whole "Politicians are all corrupt, blublublu..." stuff isn't important right now. We are talking about the president here. And his lawyer, a National Deputy Finance Chairman. Anyone should go down for this. Democrat OR Republican. I mean first there's no evidence of collusion, but when the president's lawyer is taking payments from a sanctioned Russian oligarch, it's just because the porn star's lawyer is paid by...the Democrats? That's not very logical. There's a lot of smoke around this admistration.

Saying that "Oh Avenatti is on DNC payroll" is defending Cohen. It's downplaying these new finds.

All of this is slowly adding up, and it points towards a man that most likely shouldn't be president. We all should let all of this play out, but right now, downplaying this is pretty much deflecting.

The stupidiest thing is that the account accepting the money was same account paying out stormy daniels lol what a dumbphuck

The BEST people!

Edit: Reports now stating essential consultant llc (cohens shell company) received over 4 million from everyone from Russians to pharm companies to paying off women. Following the money trail will only get worse and details will come out as to where the $ went. Did some of it go to Trump? Grab some popcorn this is gonna get good!

The company that the money was routed through, Columbus Nova, owns a majority stake in Daybreak Games Company which was formerly Sony Online Entertainment and is the developer of Everquest, Everquest 2 and DC Universe Online.

"Company linked to"/"ties" is one of the weirdest thing to read, it reads like a guilt by association. Reading it, it doesn't seem very substantial and the supposed trail seems very unlikely and far too cumbersome. The article doesn't really explain the link and Columbus Nova denies it (they would either way, of course) and it's mostly something Avenetti is fronting (which should make you suspicious). Not really something I'd pin much importance to.

Fun fact - there's nothing illegal about doing business with Russia. Forbes: American Companies Thriving in Russia
Podesta group appears to have done just fine there as well. Red Scare of 2016 is funny to watch tho.

But this is different. This is not "doing business" with Russia, this is taking money from a Russian oligarch currently under US sanctions.

And one that's been under multiple criminal investigations since 2009. "But Obama" ain't cutting it here. Cohen's "company" Essential Consultants L.L.C racked up millions from "business activities", but didn't disclose any of that publicly. A trail of millions leading back to a Russian under US sanctions and under investigation isn't "doing business with Russia".

So...uhm what does this mean? Trump is doomed? Some Russian guy paid him 4 million dollars to betray the USA? Or something? Why would a billionaire like Trump need 4 million dollars so badly?

I can't follow all these stories anymore, there's a new one everyday. Can someone explain the significance (or lack thereof) of this one?

It kind of depends on what the business is. And it is at least odd that all this money flowed into an LLC with one principal and no employees that was only formed on 17th October 2016 and has no business track record.

My dude if you read this forum you'd think (((the leftists))) were destroying the world with their political correctness. Trump is the actual President right now and I'm sure you can handle some threads about him doing shady stuff from time to time.

Who got bribed? Cohen? To do what?

Again, we need more details on this, but the optics look really bad. This LLC has no employees, no business records, no buildings, nothing. It’s literally just a name and was started right around election time by Cohen for real estate consulting. It looks really sketchy when Russian oligarchs with ties to Putin and companies appear to be funneling money through it for “insights into the administration” or other unrelated reasons when it’s a real estate consulting business. Especially ATT who was in the middle of negotiating the Time Warner deal and was anti net neutrality.

Avenatti keeps saying on Twitter that it’s much worse than that and this is just the beginning.

Beginning of what? Mueller handed off Cohen to NY already by making a referral.

The financial crisis showed prosecutors don't care about white collar crime or the rule of law. That's why there's an epidemic in the US. In any event, the objective is trying to prove collusion and take down the President. Most of the other people they're going to look the other way on.

*collusion and all related crimes; reality says you’re wrong since they’ve already indicted a few people for white collar crimes

Those individuals were indicted to flip on Pres. Trump or for lying to investigators. I'm not sure why you're pretending that they were indicted or aggressively pursued for being a white collar criminal.

That is baseless speculation. The facts are that those people committed white collar crimes and were indicted for said white collar crimes. You previously claimed that no one was going to do anything about white collar crimes. Now you’ve moved the goal post to “aggressively pursu[ing]”

Stop posting dumb things.

It's kind of odd to see some people on this thread want to defend Trump no matter what, even though there's a clear money trail the narrative isn't "wow this is obvious corruption", instead it's "this must be the deep state, this must be tied to the Democrats, this probably isn't illegal anyway".

I feel Hillary should've been locked up, and I voted 3rd party. Why cant some of you really call a spade a spade? At the least admit it's sketchy as hell. Jesus

This is the swampiest of the swamp behavior. Reeks of pay to play... all of the sudden this new LLC became the entry way into the Trump and his administration.

I guess if you want to get to our president's ear, you'll at least have to match AT&T's 200k donation.

Well, some are saying this might have effectively been a bribe to influence the FCC's vote against net neutrality and/or the Time Warner deal. Mostly speculation so far but the optics are really bad.

I'm watching this closely because AT&T is my carrier.

My contract has been over. Might be time for a change.

Michael Avenatti, porn star Stormy Daniels’ lawyer, released a seven-page dossier on Tuesday containing a list of payments purportedly made to Michael Cohen, the lawyer for President Donald Trump.
But there is one problem with the document: two of the allegedly “fraudulent” payments were made to men named Michael Cohen who have no affiliation with Trump.
Avenatti’s report includes a section listing “possible fraudulent and illegal financial transactions” involving Trump’s lawyer. One of the payments is a $4,250 wire transfer from a Malaysian company, Actuarial Partners, to a bank in Toronto.

The other is a $980 transfer from a Kenyan bank to Bank Hapoalim — the largest bank in Israel.
Zainal Kassim, a representative for Actuarial Partners, told The Daily Caller News Foundation Avenatti’s report is a case of mistaken identity. He forwarded an email the falsely accused Michael Cohen sent to Avenatti requesting the lawyer “correct this error forthwith and make it known publicly” there is no connection to Trump’s Michael Cohen.

“You are surely aware of the fact that this is an extremely common name and would request that you take care before involving innocent parries in this sordid affair,” wrote Cohen, who told Avenatti he is an international consultant who was paid by Actuarial Partners for work on a project in Tanzania.
“Actuarial Partners have already received inquiries from the press in this regard, and we would like to see this scurrilous rumour spiked as soon as possible.”
Haaretz, the Israeli news outlet, found another case of mistaken identity in Avenatti’s report.
“Mr. Cohen received one wire transfer in the amount of $980.00 from a Kenyan bank from account holders Netanel Cohen and Stav Hayun to an account in Israel at Bank Hapoalim,” Avenatti wrote.
Haaretz caught up with Netanel Cohen, who acknowledged having a bank account in Kenya and transferring money to a Michael Cohen. But the Michael Cohen in questions is his brother, Netanel told the news outlet. And his brother is not Trump’s lawyer.

Ok so I am trying to get this straight. Cohen, Trump's lawyer, set's up a shell corp. That corp then accepts money from multiple businesses. Those payoffs tie into Trump how? Is Trump Cohen's only client?

Cohen has admitted to Trump, Fox Host Sean Hannity and Broidy, Republican National Committee official who resigned following reports that he had impregnated a Playboy model in an extramarital affair. Cohen negotiated a payoff deal to the woman worth $1.6 million.

And I gave you a legitimate answer.

Sean Hannity is Michael Cohen's client.

Sorry about that! I misunderstood what you were saying.

Oh gosh..ha ok. So yeah I guess it's not "Trump is done" but the optics are horrible and there is a good chance of some shady stuff.

So Avenatti is now being probed by the Treasury Dept Inspector General to find out how he got those records, he probably should of made sure he had the right Michael Cohen, lol.

You surprised a porn stars lawyer didn't have the facts straight before running to the media like he has all year? I'm sure as hell not.

Cohen's camp does not dispute the report's contention that a company he created in 2016 — and used to pay hush money to Daniels, an adult film actress who claims she had sex with Trump — received large payments from companies like Novartis and AT&T, which confirm they hired him as a consultant or adviser.

Seems like he’s admitting to the larger payments. Now it’s time to follow the money, let’s see if it goes to Donald Trumps accounts.

Mueller was interviewing the oligarch and companies paying cohen at least 6 months ago. He’s wayyyyyy ahead of everyone including cohen’s defense.
