Microsoft gathering community opinions on porting Killer Instinct to PC

Yeah, this is totally hitting the Windows Store when it happens. It'll force us win7 users to upgrade lol.

I'd definitely upgrade windows to 10 and invest in a new video card if it did. My 6870 is pretty much going to struggle anyway with new games going forward anyway.

One less reason for X1 owners to keep their system since Microsoft is giving away the reasons to own it. Why keep paying for Live?

Bring over Forza Horizon and Halo 5 and I'm done. Sell my Bone for a Steam Box and enjoy my Xbox One games with free online.

Not everyone is buying (or bought) the console for KI though. Your reasoning goes against the games that people play on consoles the most -- multiplats.

MS is more than likely doing this to compete better with Street Fighter in userbase and longevity (people continuing to play the game for years) and I don't see why that's a bad thing at all. I would prefer for the game to have many players for years vs. the game being a "console war point" that decreases in its userbase.

And yes, I'm making the assumption that a PC version would have cross-play. I don't see why else they would be thinking of doing this.

well if you get the difference why are you trying to make the sony-ms comparison? sony is not porting any ip on the pc, they just bought the console exclusivity. sf4 also was on pc.

sony "has" an exclusive game released on pc but they're not releasing it. capisce?

wow, are you that dense?

i was pointing out the irony in the 2 situations where people had contradicting reactions.

how is that so hard for you to understand? you keep trying to argue semantics when it isn't even about that.

These "now I don't have to buy an Xbox One" posts are gonna fuck up any chance to get Microsoft to support their Operating System. I wish ya'll would shut up.

I don't think it really influences the chances of this happening. I'll agree they're kinda obnoxious and console warrior-esque.

They are especially annoying because of how blatantly dishonest and untrue they sound.
Let's face it: no one who didn't have a XB1 already is NOW suddenly going to give up on the idea of purchasing one just because a free2play launch title comes on PC one year later.

And that's not even considering the broad fallacy, which are these two conflicting narratives between people who argued for years how consoles are user friendly, great value for their cost etc... and then the same people crying about how losing exclusives for list wars will make their purchase feel pointless.

Note: No, the following post is not about some console war list wars nonsense. It's more about business?

I think it's great that more people get to experience games like KI, but I do find it a little odd that I keep hearing about (or at least I feel like I keep hearing about) Xbox One games going to PC. Or maybe I'm lumping in Xbox One/PC simultaneous releases with those that move to PC later.

Either way at the end of the day each game that migrates over to PC is potentially one less reason for someone to purchase an Xbox One right? I suppose I'm just trying to work it out from a business perspective. Maybe MS feels like they've hit the ceiling as far as units sold and systems moved because of this game and so they're throwing it on PC so it can make them some more money there since it's not gonna do much more for them on console?

Regardless, it's good news for people with a PC that don't have an Xbox One. Stuff like this means I can play Street Fighter 5 without having to drop a bunch of cash on another system :)

If SFV were PS4 exclusive with no PC release then I'd probably snag a PS4.

It would be great having Street Fighter and Killer Instinct on the same platform. I hope Microsoft port all of their games to PC.

In fact I hope PC keeps growing to the point where it'll be impossible to ignore for most titles. Already loving the trend where third party exclusives are happening less and less and where first parties fight just to keep games "console exclusive". Let Sony have half the third party games as console exclusives, Microsoft the other half and bring everything to PC.

All 3rd party games should be available everywhere.

And Sony doesn't? Why are Sony exclusives being lumped into this non-exclusivity trend from MS? Sony is just as prominent a developer as Nintendo. Laughable.

That isn't true, or even very close, actually. Sony is much closer to MS in terms of first party brand appeal than they are to Nintendo.

As a simple example: Gran Turismo, Sony's biggest series by far, barely cracks Nintendo's top 10 biggest series.

A lot of people have an inflated sense of Sony's first party appeal because it happens to appeal to them. Which is fine, but is different from the larger sort of analysis we are looking for here.

Microsoft do ports their own ips to pc it's not just published games by them, they ported to pc recently are State of Decay last year and Fable Anniversary this year. whoever this might be the first Xbox One title they own that get ported.

Which is my point. There's a distinction to make between Microsoft letting some of its games on a superseded platform hit the PC versus porting games from a platform it's getting off the ground.

YES.

YES YES YES DO IT DO IT DO IT

Especially with Crossplay.

OMG I WILL SO RIP THE MODELS OUT AND PUT THEM IN GMOD AND TAKE MANY PICTURES THAT IMPLY THAT JAGO IS RIPTOR'S HUSBANDU.

In my case it's absolutely true that they (third parties and Microsoft) have been giving me less and less reasons to buy an Xbox One. I'm a big fighting game fan and Killer Instinct almost made me buy an Xbox. Almost, if it weren't for its price and fact that I already have a pc which outperforms all of the current gen consoles, and an arcade stick that I don't have to mod to get working on Xbox now. Honestly I can't think of one title that Microsoft has that probably won't make its way to pc. Thus, I have no reason to consider an Xbox One.

Bring the forza series to the PC and then I'll sell my XB1. All these ports their bring to the PC from the XB1 is really idiotic on Microsoft part, just less and less reason to own an XB1

Any theories how crossplay might work outside of matchmaking? It would need to be a Win 8.1 game or something like this as the game would require a XBL account at least on PC.

This move would make too much sense. With Xbox One losing a heavy-hitter like Street Fighter, it's in their interest to increase the presence of their own fighting game as much as possible, as to not let their console lose relevancy in the fighting game community.

I don't think a f2p model has ever been attempted in a proper fighting game on PC, so it would be interesting to see how it goes over with the PC crowd.

Best case scenario for Microsoft it becomes a big hit and increases the player base greatly.

steam sale the dlc chars baby!!!

To think that roughly 6 years ago there were practically no fighting games on PC except for the odd obscure port here and there and doujin fighters. Now all the heavy hitters seem to be coming to PC.

I'll gladly double dip, but as a Windows Store game, I shouldn't and wouldn't have to. Buy it one time and play it everywhere.

This is dick considering I bought the xbox one for this. I hope this doesn't happen. I'm I the process of making a petition to stop this from happening.

I will buy KI on PC as long as it is the whole game and not this stupid character pack season crap.

Pretty sure this is a reaction to Street Fighter 5 but it's okay, i'm not against it. I just hope Microsoft opens this for cross platform competition and not make it exclusive to Xbox Live.

But the thing is, judging from MS history, they're not big fans of cross platform play but this is Spencer as the Xbox boss so everything is possible.

Yes, do go out of your way to stop other people playing a game that justified your purchase. That is the right thing to do, absolutely.

what is wrong with you.

The poll does say assume cross platform play.

I'd honestly believe it if Troubled Bat was to pop in here and claim that, lol. Probably the only poster I'd believe is being sincere with that claim though.

Which is my point. There's a distinction to make between Microsoft letting some of its games on a superseded platform hit the PC versus porting games from a platform it's getting off the ground.

If anything that would only strengthen Fixed2BeBroken's point. He's referring to the fact that Street Fighter V having crossplay and a PC port spawned a whole thread of people praising Sony for being "cool with PC gaming, unlike them shits at MS", yet MS put out a comparable offer (which can actually be attributed to them), and it's all "well, no point in an Xbox One then, lol". Now what he's ignoring is that there's possibly no overlap between the posters that posted each. Nonetheless it is strange how "great, I don't need an Xbox One" is such a common observation in any thread where even the mere possibility a PC port comes up (see: Sunset Overdrive, Forza, Halo MCC etc), yet over there it was all "Sony does far more for PC than MS". There were surprisingly few people in there acknowledging all the existing PC ports that lead them to no longer require an Xbox One.

I will buy KI on PC as long as it is the whole game and not this stupid character pack season crap.

Then you'll just have to wait until there are no further seasons (I'd imagine after Season 3 to be most likely). At that point you can just buy all the packs at once, and it'll be like buying a normal game.

I don't understand why people think this approach is stupid though. It's probably the only way a new Killer Instinct was ever going to happen. The IP was dead for 17 years, MS was probably not about to provide whatever resources would have been required for a full 24 character $60 release, when there was nothing to show that anybody today would still give a shit. This way, we not only got the game at all, but got it at launch rather than 2016, are having our feedback incorporated at a time where it can actually be useful (Season 1 Sadira/Sabrewulf in 2016 is something nobody other than Sadira/Sabrewulf players would want), and most importantly... it wasn't canned because the developer working on it was bought by Amazon before the game's development was justified.

I think it's proven to be a great idea tbh.

its hilarious...

how Sony has a Fighting game exclusive to their console that will be on PC as well and people actually made a thread "Sony is so Cool with PC gamers" or something like that...and how Sony and PC aren't competitors and that Sony should be applauded for allowing SF5 on PC.

Then MS is like "hey bruhs, what if we brought KI to PC? and people are like "LOL XBOX IS DOOMED!"

wut

It's because that CAPCOM wanted the game on PC for cross compatibility with PS4, it wasn't exactly Sony's call to make it PS4 exclusive entirely.
