Microsoft has the marketing deal for Doom?

Are we all collectively pretending that anyone still gives a rat's ass about Doom as an IP? In 2016?

The fact that there's going to be a Conan segment is twice as newsworthy than this amazing marketing deal 'pick up'. I guess that's the level it has come to these days though.

Can't imagine either MS or Sony would bother with a marketing deal for a generic fps, especially something passé like Doom.

MS can't even sell its own flagship FPS, surely they aren't spending money on this?

M$ is really trying very hard to promote the XBOX brand tho.
I hope they have a clear marketing plan for this, not just desperate throwing money around.

M$?

You know, this is just how business is done in 2016. Sony had more of these than Microsoft did last year.

I think just about every big 3rd party game gets a marketing deal at this point. Publishers probably expect the handouts at this point. Like someone else said they are probably just maintaining their relationship with Bethesda.

MS doing Sony another favour. So mamy people will see this ad amd think "sweet, looks good, i'll get this for my PS4".

And before you GAF me, I own both consoles.

It looks like Halo :(

No demons, no hell... just another space marine in an exosuit.
In fairness the Doom Guy is THE space marine in an exosuit, but Bethesda should really know better.

Sweet. I'm just happy that I can see Conan die in this game. Don't care what system he plays it on. (PC probs)

Yeah. Conan and Aaron did D4 on Twitch Twednesday.
Uhm, whoa. I gotta see this. Goes searching

what? they played transformers? Gotta follow this channel.

Wasn't it Ken Levine that commented that every game is pressured towards a cover with a lone man holding a gun?

Yep, it was him. It applies way more to FPS games than other genres though. I'd be surprised if it changed anytime soon.

And here I thought Spencer was serious about focusing on 1st party games and putting 3rd party deals aside...

Great for Xbox I guess.

You actually believed the company that uses strategic asterisk and comma placements in press releases?

Why does it matter? I mean I'll look forward for the Conan vid but this marketing deal talk is the most pointless discussion in the planet.

RexNovis, Doom is a big deal. It's the most notable release coming from Bethesda this year.

On topic, I also suspect MS has Mass Effect Andromeda and Battlefield 5 marketing. So with the rumors about AC, CoD and Destiny 2 not coming this year it looks MS got the biggest share of 3rd party marketing deals this year.

Didn't Ubisoft have a marketing deal with Microsoft over Assassin's Creed Unity, yet it still sold more on the PS4?

These days marketing deals don't account for much, and I'm really not sure if exclusive content does either. People just want the best version of the game that they can afford.

I wish Conan would do more than western games.

Ask the Japanese publishers to put Conan on their marketing budget.

Marketing deals exist for awareness. Problem is since most people have already decided to buy a PS4 + the (mostly true) narrative "it looks/run better on PS4" is still going strong I don't see those kinda deals helping MS out a lot. But well, business is business and since third-party exclusives are mostly a thing of the past... gotta justify your budget somehow.

Awful cover! Gotta agree with others that's way to generic for Doom.

Deal wouldn't be a surprise. MS have history with Doom and Bethesda clearly favour MS in their contacts and strategy.

Decent title to partner with.

Won't affect sales split in PAL in general though but could make difference in US and other stronger regions for MS like UK.

Ehhh even if Sony had the marketing deal, I think the split would be close on NPD.
Shooters do really really well on Xbone.

"I have black friends"

Hahaha damn.

Btw dude your avatar is fucking mint.

Battlefield will be Sony, it's always been Sony hasn't it? EA also had no problem with Sony doing Battlefront & CoD last year. MS will get Titanfall from EA instead, though that won't be until next year.

... Hold up, Cod isn't coming this year? link to these rumours? I don't believe that for a second. There will be MW4 or a new series all together (something other than Ghosts 2, anyhow). IW have been staffing up hard including people from Naughty Dog and Bungie, they're gonna release something this year for sure.

How can they play already the final game?! I'm still waiting for my Beta invite that I've redeemed over two years now from TNO. Fuck Bethesda lol

Alpha was good but I want my Beta ;(

Well MS got Battlefield 4 marketing, plus EA and MS has a close relationship.

Once again MS concentrating their advertising budget on America, when they need to focus on Europe.

Look MS, America is your safe area, you need to get to work on Europe or it'll be lost to Sony forever and you'll ONLY have America.

it's already lost. they're trying to maintain what they can in America

Basically. RoTW is a lost cause for them.

Might as well solidify yourself as the main shooter box for US/UK at this point.

Edit:
And Holy crap did I just notice how god awful that cover is!

Have you considered that it could have sold even less on Xbox without marketing deal?

Marketing deal might not help it sell more on Xbone than on Ps4, but it will still elevate sales. I'm pretty sure ratio between Witcher would have been even bigger without marketing deal for example. At this point many deals are like "hey remember that this game is on Xbox One too guys!".

Well that's where they are most competitive, see Rainbow Six siege.

Oh, and that must be why have deal on Mirrors Edge and Dark Souls 3.

I didn't say exclusively. No need for the defensive sarcasm.

but anyway...

Mirrors Edge is simply because EA sees their future tied up with MS not Sony (EA access, Brand synegy etc)

Dark souls is Microsoft wanting a bloodborne. Waste of time honestly. The sales of DS3 are going to be PS4>>PC>>>>>>>>>>>>XB1 no matter what they do.

It was just some humour, relax. No defensiveness needed here, I knew what you meant. But as I said, they embrace shooters since they sell well, gotta keep any customers they have no matter what.

Oh yeah I saw that, I don't believe it. That would mean either

- IW is doing 2017's game and SH/3arc get a 4 year cycle this time
- IW's game gets released in 2019 and having a 6 year cycle from Ghosts
- IW have been kicked off CoD completely to do something different and SH/3arc rotate every 2nd year again or CoD turns into a two year cycle game.
- They do a remastered collection

None of that sounds possible really, the only one that might be likely is the remastered but that makes no sense when they've been staffing up hard, EvB has found them testing all CoD's for BC on XB1, and Activision aren't really into the whole remaster business in the first place.

I'd be really surprised if there isn't a CoD from IW this year, no doubt the game will sell poorly compared to other CoD's after Ghosts, but CoD selling poorly is still massive numbers.

Either way we should find out for sure soon, it's usually around March they get announced isn't it?

Battlefront?
FIFA?

EA has been pushing FIFA on Xbox since day one, no matter how much it sells on PS4

Battlefront was down to disney.

Also im confused, Wasnt Doom 3 exclusive to 360 for a couple years?

EDIT: Holy shit, It wasnt even 360. It was OG Xbox. BFG edition didnt release until 7 years later.

How is this a big pickup in comparsion?

They should have bit smaller marine and maybe behind him outline of demon or something. I mean that would be still generic as hell, but at least it would make it bit more interesting.

Edit. Or heck, just go back to the drawing board.

Millions wasted on a trying to improve sales figures of a average selling game (IMO). I will be a good solid FPS with a old school vibe to it. It will be around 10-15 hours play through time, Doom was groundbreaking game 20 years ago, but has no relevance to younger gamer's.

It will be a carbon copy of Wolfenstein (I really enjoyed these, one on the better recent FPS, but has a more story based ideas rather than Doom). I presume they are planning multiplayer, but its not going to compete with other titles.

Gamer's nowadays want big open world sandboxes, or level/Loot based multiplayer games which they can sink hours and hours in to (They are getting boring IMO)

So you're telling me you think a possible marketing deal for a previously PC centric franchise that hasn't seen a mainline release in 11 years and has had one release come to console platforms where it received mediocre reviews (some of the biggest sites even straight up advising people not to buy it) and then went on to sell a small fraction of its LTD sales for that version on console is somehow suddenly a big deal that will push significant quantities of hardware because MS has a marketing deal for it? Come on man. That's crazy.

If your arguement is that it's going to be a big marketing campaign or something then I would say that The Division is MS' big marketing deal this year (that we know of so far) and as a new IP (as opposed to an existing PC centric franchise) could be a lot more beneficial for them if they out the marketing out to truly associate the IP with the MS brand like Sony was able to do with Destiny. But they haven't done that. Do you honestly think if they aren't beating the advertising from like mad men for a hot new game like "The Division" they're going to do that for Doom? I mean hell man even the timed exclusive deal they had with Tomb Raider this holiday season resulted to about as much as a fart in the wind as far as advertising or sakes are concerned. Yet you think they're going to pull out the big guns for a non exclusive multiplayer title whose main player base isn't even on console? I just don't see it.

Yea they'll have the Xbox brand slapped into the ads on tv. Yea they may even have some sort of timed DLC for it but to compare a marketing deal for Doom to Star Wars or CoD is just ridiculous. The brand is not even in the same zip code of relevance in the console ecosystem. Don't take my word for it look at the threads about Doom on GAF. Compare the level of engagement and response in those threads to what we saw for Black Ops 3 or Battlefront or even The Division. The difference is clear as day.
