Better learn to control that gag reflex then54-46! said:Please.. please don't force this down my throat MS.
i actually think people bought Kinect without knowing what they were in for. Now microsoft thinks it's a succes. But i don't know a single person who bought it that still uses it.NemesisPrime said:By being the best selling console in 2010?
Push your left thumb, hard, into your left palm. It reduces the gagging. I learned this whilst buying all the DLC for Test Drive Unlimited.DennisK4 said:Better learn to control that gag reflex then

Deadly Joker said:While I agree it's to late in this generation to release new IP's, where are the sequels to some popular Xbox and Xbox 360 exclusives? Games like Perfect Dark 2, Kameo 2, Banjo Kazooie, Project Gotham Racing 5, a Crackdown sequel that is actually good, Lost Odyssey 2, and Crimson Skies 2.
What is stopping Microsoft from making these games? Instead we get the usual Halo, Gears of War, Fable, and Forza, over and over again. It's getting old and stale. Why can't they use some of their other IP's?

If they keep it optional. I don't see a problem here. Sony has included Move functionality in most of their games while retaining core controls.
Speedymanic said:Right, and how does that affect the core game experience?
Are you no longer allowed to use a pad? It's added functionality that hasn't tainted the core experience.

That's why Forza 4 looks worse than Forza 3...mrklaw said:developer might have to dial back performance to leave enough headroom to handle kinect processing. So even if you're not using Kinect it might affect performance.

I've bought 10 exclusive 360 games this year.Foliorum Viridum said:Sony are really outdoing MS this year. I've bought 5 PS3 games 6 months into the year, with more to come almost every year, whereas the only game I want this for 360 is Gears of War 3 :\

So games are gonna start running worse? Da fuck
...and then some.szaromir said:FM3->FM4
[Nintex] said:Yep, Kinect makes everything better just look at Forza 4
Label said:Fixed that for you.
Foliorum Viridum said:This would be worrying if Microsoft had any first party titles I cared about other than Gears of War at this point.

360 was my favourite console since its release but now? Ehh.
2010 :
1. Wii
2. PS3
3. 360
Suzzopher said:Having Kinect as something optional alongside the core game, is no different to PS3 games coming with 3D or Move support as optional.
Great point.NemesisPrime said:Yawn.

It seems that Microsoft, while not mandating it, is hoping that all of their first party titles will eventually use Kinect.

Seriously--people are getting worked up over nothing here.
Always-honest said:Dear Microsoft: NOBODY ON GAF LIKES YOUR STUPID KINECT.
Stop it.
LiquidMetal14 said:MSFT has been behind in terms of games for a couple of years. They can't even tough Sony and Nintendo 1st party efforts and most of the multiplats are on PS3 or PC. Regardless of Kinect, the company has been in decline. But they already have a good chunk of the hardcore so CoD and stuff like that continues to drive HW.
I know most might not be interested in watching this video but Its a 24 min walk through Forza 4 and shows how they use Kinect to enhance the game not detract from it. You can still do everything with the controller but Kinect allows for new experiences not possible with a controller, (Head Tracking, Voice Navigation). I would suggest watching the video to see how if done right Kinect integration can make a game better.Phonomezer said:
A first-party game can be developed by a third-party. See the Insomniac PS3 games.Combichristoffersen said:GeoW isn't a first party series, and the games are made by Epic, not Microsoft.
What your discribing is a full Kinect expierence, while the comment is more focused on adding Kinect funtionalities to a existing game. It also means that its not being forced, example ME3, and you can turn it off whenever you want.PortTwo said:Optional Kinect support is not exactly the same as optional Move support. Couple of reasons why:
Kinect is a unique control method, and thus requires unique efforts to make to work optimally.
Move controls map cleanly to replace the camera (right) stick in many "traditional" dual-analog games.
Kinect requires more processing power for motion tracking. This is why ME3 is not affected; it's just Kinect Voice command, which is an aspect that MS has rolled into the Kinect brand, but is frankly straight up voice commands from SOCOM PS2. (Still cool, mind you, but it is what it is.)
If devs want to include a token level of Kinect support, then that's what it'll be - token. Basically you are stuck between dedicating your game design entirely to Kinect control, or parceling off your dev effort to "better with Kinect" efforts. Kinect demands that you build specifically for it to get the most out of it and this becomes a situation not unlike the Wii, just kind of risky for 3rd parties.
Starting to think the Kinect effort might have been good for exactly one Xmas. They need a Wii Sports type hit..I think DC got them part way there but as others have said, the people I know with Kinects have treated them exactly like a Wii. Party, party, party, closet.
