Microsoft Responds to Optimized Launch Game Performance Issues

Microsoft has responded to reports that games optimised for the next-gen systems are experiencing better performance on PS5, despite the Xbox Series X's supposed technical superiority.

"We are aware of performance issues in a handful of optimized titles on Xbox Series X|S and are actively working with our partners to identify and resolve the issues to ensure an optimal experience," the company told The Verge.

"As we begin a new console generation, our partners are just now scratching the surface of what next-gen consoles can do and minor bug fixes are expected as they learn how to take full advantage of our new platform. We are eager to continue working with developers to further explore the capability of Xbox Series X|S in the future."

It should be pointed out that the Xbox Series X had superior performance at the 4K Ultra HD resolution, while Digital Foundry also observed better ray tracing performance on Microsoft's flagship new console. The site also pointed out the results are very preliminary.

How dare you. We only talk about deficiencies here.

So they blaming 3rd party developers here?

... I'm unaware of these results..?

Does the "Optimized for Series X" badge mean, "We will help them to optimize it after we find out if there are performance issues despite declaring in advance that the title was already optimized for Series X?"

Public acknowledgement. Microsoft aren't fucking around. I remember last generation, Microsoft flew out their own engineers to some of the bigger developers to help get their games up to 1080p on the Xbone. Destiny and Diablo III, if I recall correctly. I wonder if we'll see that kind of direct intervention.

So their official position is bugs due to 3rd party incompetence. At least we got clarification now.
Not incompetence but unfamiliarity is a plausible explanation. Their first party games have reached 6k60 in some instances and we have even seen a 4k game on the series S. The caveat here is that their first party games are last gen :)
They had to acknowledge it publicly given that their marketing has been based mostly on power.

It's because it's the same quote that is circulating around the internet.
At least it is in it's own thread now I guess. Not that it isn't entertaining to see people claw each other's eyes out over bugs and frame drops in non playable cutscenes.

Nah, does not sounds blame at all. They cannot call it otherwise, because no 1st party game...

Yeah. Sometimes people are more busy fighting than playing games.

As long as they're not 343 engineers, everything should be good lol.

Its obvious there's bugs when you look at Valhalla for example. Everything is similar on the chart except tearing which is like 800 vs 4000 ps/xbox.

Once issues get ironed out, we'll see the "fud" cries saying ms paid for devs to sabotage the Playstation version lol.

"Not long now, tick tock" 😉🤣

The fact that some of them have already or will soon release patches kinda lends credence to this.

Q: What is it like developing on Xbox Series X?

I've never worked on a console launch where, while we're still months away from release, the tools have been this mature, this stable, this easy to work with.

Interestingly both this and Microsoft's response don't seem to be corroborating the idea that the GDK came in late at all which was another favorite explanation, Microsoft is rather phrasing it as working with developers to find bugs.

There's also a screenshot of a Twitter dm posted on here where a dirt dev says something along the lines of not being able to get enough time with the gdk due to covid. But narratives will have people ignore what doesn't fit theirs 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️.

I didn't see that but would like to

Some of the Dirt 5 issues are probably bugs, too. Especially the low detail bugs. With 4 or 5 different Xbox hardware profiles and multiple performance modes for games it wouldn't be surprising if games had bugs that applied the wrong settings at times. Of course when that was mentioned in the DF analysis thread we couldn't really talk about it because of so many people reeeing about "DF making excuses for Xbox" and "PS5 will only get better too!" drowning out any actual productive conversation.

It was stated even before consoles released that the Ps5 dev kit was basically a ps4 dev kit with added capabilities for Ps5 while the gdk is new. So its not surprising there's some issues. Only a retard will spin this like some moral victory lol.

Hello to everyone on page 20 that reads this in the future.

EDIT: You failed! Made me look like a fool :(

What's funny about this is that they would have been aware of this long before launch, hence we saw no gameplay from the Series X.

At some point they will learn how to launch a console and not end up on the back foot needing to damage control. Being a bit more subtle in their marketing and focusing only on their own product(s) would help.

MS is responding quickly to any and all things Series X related that stupid vaping thing, other issues, now this.

Sony isn't even telling people AVOID USING External storage on their PS5 DESPITE the widespread complaints.

This is interesting, lets see how it develops.

Screen tearing on Valhalla has just been patched. As a good example, I would say that indeed, developers have had not enough time optimizing their game. What's the problem here?

Problem is that optimisation is not applicable to one platform only.

You can optimise anything.

You talk as if there are only gains to be found on Xbox.

Additionally if the scenario is such that reasonable and comparable optimisation was done on both sides and has lead to the current state of play then it shows the PS is easier to create games for and "lazy" devs will always be lazy devs. That is to say count yourself lucky some devs are making patches. You won't always get those. Worse still, it could cause delays in releasing or it gets released as a mess and you have to wait for a patch.
