Microsoft Wants Halo to Last Another 30 Years

I hope thats true. For some people, their SciFi universe if Starwars, for some people its StarTrek, but for me its Halo and I really care for the universe.

I really doubt Microsoft will be in the games business at all 30 years from now.
Why not? Microsoft has been in the games business since the late 80's and even if Microsoft decided to flatout exit the Gaming Industry, they could still sell off 343i and Halo to someone like Disney who would want to add a popular IP to their belt

I wonder how long 343 will last.

I would assume they would jump ship like Bungie

MS should allow their studios especially talented 343i to make new IPs then go back to Halo once in a while, same for turn 10. There was no way 343 wont get tired of making Halo

You know 343 was very specifically put together FOR Halo right?

Zero chance they do anything else.

I can't think of a franchise that would have 40+ years of consistent entries that has been good. Correct me if I'm wrong. I guess you could say Star Trek, but I don't think that is consistently good. Probably just comic books.

Reading the original interview (http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-...-mold-in-male-dominated-video-games-tech.html), you just can't help but feel the focus is on changing Halo into something else, regardless of how it works as a game, narrative, etc. It's all very well making the cast more diverse, but it's going to be all for nothing if Halo continues on its path to irrelevancy.

Ultimately, thirty years sounds as unlikely as it is ludicrous. Halo 4 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection are scarcely conducive with Halo 6 being made, let alone Halo 15.

Wow I'll take that bet. They've been making games since 1990, if not earlier. And they're a company founded on software. Games will always make sense for Microsoft, especially as games are now part of our culture.

On the eve of Halo XL, I look forward to regaling my future, beautiful grandchilren the glorious tale of how I was the first person of my Halo buddies to find the sniper perch in Halo CE.

I was a HUGE halo fan but franchises need to die. I don't want to play Doom or Hexic. I don't care about Quake at this point. I would rather have a new franchise.

I never understood this argument. These devs go to 343i because they want to work on Halo. if they want to work on something else, they can go to another studio Microsoft Owns...or elsewhere because just having 343i on your resume is pretty big.

Maybe if Halo actually branched out into different genres of video games and the EU was handled better (FUD and Nightfall aren't doing any favors, and dat comic series), this series could last another 10 years.

30? Not a chance with how this series is doing.

There is no 'limit' in the world of Sci-Fi. Look at Star Wars, Star Trek, StarGate, and so on. When one doe closes they simply invent a window.

Considering Halo is already 15 and still kicking another 30 isnt that unlikely.

Thank you for mentioning three franchises that proves milking something long enough and it will at some point turn into shit.
Okay havn't really seen much StarGate mostly because it looked terrible to begin with.

Speak for yourself bud!

Edit: Hexen, right? I just get so excited when I'm reminded of Hexen!

Aside from Stinkles, what relationship did the current 343 management have to Halo prior to 343?

None. Almost zero of the current senior management, or design staff had anything to do with the previous Halo games. It's a big misconception when people think there was some mass exodus from Bungie to 343. Aside from a few guys like Stinkles aka Frank O'Connor, and maybe Vic Deleon, an environment artist at Bungie, that's about it for any key staff. Perhaps some temps or lower hires left as well but no way to know.

I question this, given their recent handling of the series.

Yeah. Release Halo 4, basically cause majority of fanbase to stop playing. Bring them back with sweet whisperings of MCC, 60 FPS, dedicated servers, bungle launch to where hardly any are playing a month from launch with a myriad of issues still happening. Just had another 1.1gb patch again today. And then Halo 5 where they're adding ADS this time something an overwhelming amount of fans are against.

I think Halo will be around for 30 years, but I don't think it'll have the passionate fanbase or be as successful as they're hoping.

Okay well I wasn't aware of this, I thought they first entered with the Xbox. Still though, they seem like the type of company who'd jump in when the opportunity is at it's peak and then bail out before things go south. I dunno, maybe they'll see enough profit in the Xbox line for generations to come, but I'm personally not seeing it.

I am just now realizing Forward Unto Dawn = FUD ..... BAHAHAHAHAHAHA that shit is gold.

MS may want Halo to be their Mario but unfortunately 343 look like they've almost completely Killer the franchise.

Halo 4 was the worst mainline Halo game so far and Halo MCC has been nothing but a complete disaster.

I personally have lost all faith in the franchise and am expecting Halo 5 to be another disappointment.

MS really need to invest in other franchises at this point. Hopefully they bring back Perfect Dark and hopefully they don't screw up Gears of War...

At the end of Halo 7 (When they stop the dozen halos or whatever) it will be all like "There's 30 more!!"

Masterchief rolls his eyes "here we go again" he says looking at the camera.

Maybe there's a chance I'll get a Halo survival horror game where you play as an Elite abducted by ONI and the flood break out and you have to survive. Hint hint.

I dig it. I also want to see a post-war ONI Section 0 agent going around shutting down illegal black ops projects, now that the win-at-any-cost era is over. Let's just work for 343. We got gold.

Halo 5 can be a nail in the coffin for them, if they mess it up bad enough. That's not to say they'll drop everything there and then but they'll probably finish up Halo 6, release a few books and do the TV show and end it.

See? There's plenty of fresh and interesting ideas in the Halo universe. I would really like to see them expand it in ways other than what we have now. They could do a lot of cool stuff.

Ha.
I love Halo but that is a pipe dream

If they take risks, I could see it lasting a few years.

More games like ODST, Halo Wars as well as making sure that any game released under the Halo banner is extremely polished and doesn't suffer from issues that make you wonder if MS really cares about the IP beyond seeing it as their cash cow.
