Why will it happen eventually? Just because MS wanted to turn retail games into software that you license doesn't mean it's going to happen. The fact they were forced to turn around on that proves the market won't put up with that shit.
DD is the future, all media will eventually be there, it's pretty simple. I don't physically own even a fraction of music and movies on physical media compared to 10 years ago. Although I still do have movies and music on Amazon, iTunes, etc ... digital versions.
It will happen when the right price/value comes into line, until that point I'm not on board. But with Steam I've proven that I could be.
So you're more than willing to take it up the ass when the times comes? Wow.
Oh christ, what a stupid fucking statement. It's inevitable that ALL media will be going digital. It happened with Music and it's happening with Movies/TV. Can you still buy physical? Of course, but there will come a time where you won't see CD players in cars and it will all be digital. Movies are being watched/purchased more through digital every day and growing. Same with games. It's happening. I'm not exactly happy about it but just like music I've made the transition.
Until it's a viable price/value option for me, I'll stick with physical but eventually we won't see games on disks. Mobile gaming is HUGE and not a single game is sold physically. PSN, XBL, Steam, GoG, etc ... all digital services growing every day.
Are we at that point where digital is the majority? No, but there will be a paradigm shift eventually and I'll have to convert or not continue gaming.
