Mighty No.9: Jim Sterling impressions

Ugh

How is it possible to get it so wrong

I honestly keep referencing to people how ridiculous it is that this game ended up this ugly while Ghost Song looks fuckin beautiful with a fraction of that budget.

Gotta wonder how much of that money they got has actually been spent on the game itself.

I backed this.

4 million dollars. yikes.

I backed Yooka-Laylee and Friday the 13th too which didn't earn nearly close to the funds but are looking great, so it isn't all bad i suppose.

Watched the video and it looks... fine? Seems like trashing this game is the cool thing to do lately. I fail to see how this is worse than Azure Striker Gunvolt, which it's very close to.

There is absolutely no way in hell they used all the Kickstarter money they got on this game right?

We should ask for receipts and get the rest refunded.

They're also making an anime and live action movie so I assume some of it went to those projects as well

I already said it and I don't know which platform Jim used, but there are framerate Probs on the ps4. There is also a a v-sync Option on the ps4, but idk wether because of the framerate or Input lag. That's what I heard yesterday

It's likely going to be a good game, but it's not a looker, and you apparently can't afford that even if you're pandering to the 8-bit Mega Man fandom. I don't get you, guys.

The music sounds like something that would be playing while I skip through dialogue in a visual novel, or casually browse a store in Etrian Odyssey. Well made, but slightly out of place?

Except for the story stuff it looks alright, mighty uninspired but alright.

lmfao This game is why you should never back shit on kick starter, ladies n gents.

It looks like a really bad XBLA game sold for like 3-4 dollars, but no this a multi-million dollar venture expecting 20-30 dollars day one retail...

Why's there so much empty space within the stage? It feels like everything is as close to the ground as possible with most of the screen real estate wasted. They should have zoomed the game in a bit. But then again, that might make the game look even worse. Lose-lose.

No it's why you should never back Inafune on kickstarter.
Shovel Knight, Shadowrun, Wasteland 2 and many more are great kickstarter games.

4mil is a small budget even for a game of this scope.

This isn't an excuse. They're a team of seasoned developers led by a key industry player since the NES days, and this is much more than what they asked for. We're not talking about a team of young indie upstarts who don't know how much game development costs.

Looks fun! Can't wait to get my copy. But damn, waay too much useless cutscenes and dialogues, we can hopefully skip that crap.

This game looks like a high-res ios game, not even one with good art direction. It's okay though, once we fund the anime, mangas, and spinoffs we'll all love the great story megaman games are known for.

Seriously, I really hope this plays well, because what I see looks awful.

The gameplay looks fun and I imagine like with the Gunvolt games you can turn off the dialogue for a more pure experience. Kinda shows how much people put graphics above all else since graphically the game does look bad but that doesn't appear to impact the gameplay.

It doesn't look terrible, but on hindsight, the final product didn't deserve all that buzz during the kickstarter period. If MN9 was first seen at this stage without all that, I'm quite sure most people will be like "oh that's kinda cool I guess" and moved on.

In regards to the lacklustre visuals, can those be blamed on the systems list stretching back to 3DS? That did strike me as overshooting, even back in the kickstarter's early days...

I'll never understand these guys' obsession with dialogue and voice acting in a freaking 2D platformer. It's "Mega Man", not Shakespeare.

It started as early as Megaman X, true, but the first game kept it to a minimum. Some dialogue at key points, easily skippable of course. But it gradually got worse with each new entry and each new spin-off.

I say this as an aspiring voice actor myself, but the abundance of voice acted dialogue (and the abundance of dialogue in general) in arcade games is a curse.

i love it when i read someone take this stance when everyone unanimously shits on a game that the person likes. lol

like the criticisms can't possibly be legitimate, it's just people trying to be "cool"...yeah....right
