And they were probably doing the Red Ash Kickstarter knowing this.
These guys, man.
They must have waited until that was finished before announcing this delay. Pretty fucking scummy.

So they denied that the game would be delayed, just so they can announce the delay at Gamescon??? What kind of decision is that??
True, this game is coming out on like every platform so that probably makes things even tougher than normal. There's no way they just started Q&A though so this represents 3+ additional months not 3+ total months. I wonder if there was no option to perhaps delay the handheld versions of the game to focus attention on the other versions to maybe still make the holiday season?
i believe it.
first, there are several platforms to do qa for. i don't know what microsoft is like, but sony and nintendo can be fairly strict, especially in europe. so consider that they're submitting 14 roms to about 6 companies and that's a fucking nightmare.
and the problem is, if one fails, everything gets delayed. so you have to make sure that all products are working right with all their quirks. the 3d on the 3ds has to respond in the right settings. the color of the ps4 controller can't be fucking up in weird ways. stuff like that. it's also a busy period when everyone is submitting their stuff for testing, so it makes the time necessary for feedback even harder.
it's possible that a date was desired for october or even early november, just before the holiday season because a cheap game for christmas is potentially a goldmine. but at the same time, they probably couldn't guarantee it out in time. it's possible the game could be ready for december, but that's almost suicide. so instead it gets pushed to q1 where it won't be drowned out so much by noise.
Good old Q1. Could be as late as March of next year while people are saying January. Was a completely scummy move to try another Kickstarter for another game when they have trouble finishing their first one.
Inafune continues to live up to the words of Kamiya
isn't making a game while you're making a game kind of normal?

if you can put all of your marketing out for one product all at once, it's best for exposure of all the skus within said product. handheld games have some of the highest minimum order quantities, so delaying just those games could make it difficult to reach the moq, at least from the contacting retailers aspect of things.
i don't think they just started qa. i do think they are about knee-deep in it though, and might be getting hit left and right with changes. the decision could have come down being - either delay this to November, or just make sure things are ready for next year.
in addition to qa, there's about a month of time needed to submit art work, get it approved, printed, assembled, and shipped to retailers. some companies won't even look at submitted art work until they have a rom to test. each company has their own way of shipping things too. Nintendo famously had a queue for games production, where it could take several weeks from when an order was placed to when it would arrive in the assembling facility, especially in the busy season. of course, nothing can get made if the game hasn't passed the approval stage.

Maybe they thought it could fly under the radar being buried by all the other news coming out.
So stupid.
After what happened with Kaio: King of Pirates, Inafune is not someone that I would trust with juggling multiple projects at one time.
How is that Inafune's fault?.
I can understand some of that logic. I'm not sure that works the best for every scenario, I think there are pros and cons to releasing everything at once as well releasing versions at different times (digital version console versions > physical console versions > handheld versions could have been something they could have done) but here they chose to go with release everything at once. Hope it works out for them.
With regards to artwork and what not, isn't that already all done at least? Like there was already box art and what not.
Announcing the delay during gamescom to try and hide it, nice
That's the problem with kickstarter zero accountability. Inafune taking the piss and there is nothing backers can do about it. No developer will see a penny from me until the product is in my hands.

How is it not his fault? It was his first project since leaving Capcom. Inafune's studio Intercept was handling the project.
The project was in development since 2011. It gets cancelled in 2015. Marvelous loses millions of dollars.
Has Marvelous explained why the game was cancelled? Did Inafune explain why it was cancelled?
why would they want to hide it? it's fairly embarrassing, but i would assume they'd want as many people to know when it was coming out as possible.

Kickstarter = the saving grace, something something. Yeah, right.
Marvelous was paying the bills, it was a multimedia project and not only a game. From this and the stuff you said, I'm not sure how can you conclude it was Inafune's fault.

I very much regret backing this project.
A delay is fine, but saying that it's partially because they didn't get responses from all the backers is BS. I wont be giving Comcept any money again.
There's good and bad ones, like anything else. Funny how the Shadowrun team have no problem keeping to goals and delivering but others keep stumbling. It almost feels like a western specialty, but who knows. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever backed a Japanese KS. (Bubblegum Crisis comes close, but it was done by someone here.)
While I don't feel that's a good reason to delay the entire game, they've been very up front about the issues they've had getting people to declare a platform. I know I've gotten a bunch of emails about it and even had some friends remark that they needed to do their survey still.
I think it's working. All the big sites have gamescom news on their front pages.
After four years of development, Inafune failed to deliver a game.
