min.us (better than imgur?)

Yo Minus dudes, can you work on the Android tablet interface for the app? It would be nice if the photostream view filled the screen vertically and sometimes images don't load properly.

The PC web side is damn near perfection. Competition has been utterly destroyed.

Are there any plans to let you access the controls when you're viewing a folder in List Mode? I like Grid Mode but when you're dealing with a folder full of 40mb gifs it tends to slow down, List Mode just runs smoother.

It would be cool if there were some mechanism to alert your followers when you update a folder. I'll add a bunch of stuff to an older folder but nobody knows it. If it got bumped back up to the top of your feed or maybe just said "Updated X Hours Ago" where it normally shows the upload age, that'd be nice.

The one thing I really want is for them to copy imgurs extension

That is extremely useful to me

I can't even get it to load right now, get a 503 error when I go to the site. This was happening a couple days ago too.

We are doing our best to be 100% uptime, but we do experience some issues every now and then, sorry for the trouble!

I can't see any of my images when I log in, bug or?

Click on "MY FOLDERS" in home page.

Latest Firefox version. My Minus extension is at 1.7.93.

Latest is 1.7.94:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/minus-share-simply/

I use min.us to host gifs, bless the large upload sizes.

=)

So I guess min.us is not better than imgur?

Minus let's you share up to 2 GB per file, with player for full-res image, music, video, document previews/players ;) It's also meant for sharing/storing files. Imgur is 2 MB limit.

Can you Minus devs stop sharpening the thumbnails so much? Please/Thanks.

Can you email info@minus.com some info/comparison? We'll look into it. Examples would help :)

It's miles ahead of imgur.

^_^ more info on http://minus.com/pages/help

Both are equally good, but min.us has the plus Pyromaniac mentioned, basically all of the gifs I upload are bigger than 2 MB. So I only use imgur to upload quick images.

Remember Minus also support all filetypes and has many apps available on http://minus.com/pages/tools

It is better than Imgur.

Imgur has shitty image compression for free accounts. Minus doesn't.

^_^ full-size image is always available for Minus. Keep on sharing!

We have a big Android update coming soon, stay tuned :) Please spread the word on Minus as well for Android users ^^

min.us is easily the best pic/gif host I've used. I likes it. Hope they don't get stingy.

Thanks! We won't but please keep sharing Minus! We hope to get the word out to more users.

for the most part, yeah.

only gripe i have with it is the android app bug i mentioned a couple times.

Next update for Android app is almost ready, stay tuned!

Most beautiful gif I have ever seen. So smooth.

Agreed. Awesome GIF

Our extension is available on http://minus.com/pages/tools for Chrome and Firefox, and it has ability for you to

- upload into existing folder/gallery
- upload into new folder/gallery
- edit / crop / filter image on the spot before uploading
- take screenshot of entire screen, portions of screen and more
- re-host images as well.

Thanks. The problem with that is it's prone to abuse no? Please email info@minus.com some idea you have how to implement this properly. It's definitely do-able once we create "Sorting".

We'll add that back asap :)

I love the service - beautiful site, all my stuff in one convenient folder, no limits to worry about. It's totally replaced Imgur and Picup (third party app to upload iPhone pics to Imgur) for me.

Having to go to a dedicated page is not what I would call efficient, especially when my folders never actually show up in the drop down menus.

Your extension is over complicated and full of features that just get in the way of what it's meant to do; upload pictures.

I can't upload any animated gifs using the extension. Is anybody else having this problem?

EDIT: Oh nvm. A page popped up a few minutes later.

Is there a way to

-delete folders
-get links

In the android app?

I can't seem to find them.[/QUOTE]

- Yes, click on trashcan icon
- Yes, click on "Share" link below the image.

Sorry to hear about that. The main reason is to allow you to both "Rehost" and "Screenshot" and these are the 2 main functions. To do that in 1 extension we did our best with the interface.

Will look into how to improve it for sure.

Cool glad to hear it's fine. Remember GIFs typically take longer to upload as well, some are quite large in size.

So the FF extension adds a button on the upper right corner of the browser. What the heck does it do? I click it and nothing happens.

You can fit all your stuff in one gallery?

Oh gurlie, I'm needing several for my gif vault.

Mine are all Leona GIFs. I had to rehost them on Imgur because the ones I used in my "Collide" OT (what a bomb, by the way) were mostly on Tinypic and that shit is banned, gurl.

So when Imgur failed to completely satisfy, I re-re-hosted them on godly Min.us, though I'm too lazy to update that ancient wasteland of a thread.

Hopefully all my new GIFs come in handy for Leona's inevitable resurrection to world mega-domination aka Glass Heart.

(crosses fingers)

I got the firefox extension and it says wrong username/password even though I logged into the website with the same.

Some passwords with "Special characters" aren't allowed in Firefox extensions so you can get into website -> Settings page top right, and change to a letters/numbers only password and then try Firefox extension. Hope that works.

It should ask you to Sign-In and then you can right click on images or web pages to take screeshot or re-upload them.

Hope that makes sense?

I just meant something to alert your followers to when you upload new files into a folder.

Say I added 20 more pics to this folder.

ooceJ.jpg

Where it says "1 Month" it could say "Updated 2 Hours ago" or "Updated on 01/11/12" or something. I add stuff to old folders a lot, currently I just constantly update my profile bio with stuff like this:

uLyBX.jpg

It wouldn't have to bump the folder up to the top of your folder list, although that would work too. It wouldn't need to put the folder back at the top of the "Explore" list either, it's just something to alert the followers who visit your account page that you updated an old folder.

Thanks. Will look into it. It's possible to bump it up, or we can add the details , but the details part might be more complex on the user end for them to see that changes. Maybe just a simple bump in Following if folder is updated.

And so it was.

Since my wishes are apparently being granted, I'm going to rattle off every idea I've had about the site. This is a fantasy wishlist and I don't expect any of these to be implemented soon or possibly ever but I'm excited about the sites social aspects. I don't know how much feedback you guys get about the social stuff, so I thought I'd share some thoughts from someone who is using the site to support a community and actively tries to upload things for his followers.

- Being able to add a description for a folder (and not just the individual files) would be cool. It's pretty minor but I often find myself wanting to add more information than what I can fit into the folders name and tags.

- A mechanism where you can promote specific folders. For instance, being able to select three folders and have them displayed at the top of your profile page, separate from the feed, in a sort of "Spotlight" section. This is my solution to the "problem" of old folders not getting any attention because they're at the bottom of your feed. For most people this is a non-issue but I've uploaded 116 folders so far (I bet I'll hit 120 by the weekend) and there is a lot of good stuff way down there that I know people would like, but I have no way of drawing their attention to it other that re-uploading it so it appears at the top of my feed. Having a few select slots where I could highlight good content for anyone who visits my profile page would solve this, or at least make me feel like I have the power to solve it. It also adds a degree of personalization that's fun but doesn't have the potential to be gaudy or chaotic.

- Something that could be gaudy or chaotic, but I'll suggest it anyway, is a personalized header image. I'm specifically drawing from the Facebook Timeline here, just a single image at the top of your profile that you can use to express yourself. There are problems with this and I don't even know where it would go, but I'm just itching to further customize my profile page and that's the really uninspired idea I came up with.

- Very minor detail, but when someone "Likes" one of your folders the notification you get says that they've liked the first file in that folder, not the folder itself. This confused me for a bit, take this for example:

9uvIp.jpg

I'm pretty sure he's hitting "Like" on different files but it always shows up as him liking the same file, which happens to be the first one in the folder. Now as I understand it you can only "Like" a folder, and not the individual files inside it, so you can see why this is a little weird. I think that guy was even more confused than I was.

- This is almost not even worth mentioning, but it kind of annoys me that it counts towards my Views counter when I'm looking at my own folder. Posting a folder and it already having 15 views is a little odd. I live and die by the Views counter so I can see what's popular and what's not, anything that throws it off even slightly bugs me a little.

- I'd also like some kind of advanced sorting. For example, being able to separate folders full of still pictures and folders full of gifs on my profile page, or being able to separate them based on the content (all my Selena Gomez pics over here, all my Victoria Justice pics over there, for instance). Tags are pretty limited and trying to find stuff in my feed can be a little daunting at times. Being able to create my own sub-sections and sort my folders based on those would be a big help when trying to find stuff. This is a feature that would probably require a big UI overhaul and a lot of work though. If you guys have any plans on redesigning the profile page, this is one thing I'd like to see.

- The new Explore drop-down menu is good. I feel like their should be more ways to find other users and folders but I can't think of any good ideas.

Thanks so much - appreciate it.

1) You can add description to each individual items. The folder description is just the folder title for now - we'll look into that though.

2) Spotlight for your own profile is interesting option, we'll look into it :)

3) Got it, customization is next on plate for profiles

4) That's bizarre. Will fix the bug.

5) Views is something we prob will keep same behavior for a while for database reasons

6) Sorting options is coming, stay tuned :)

7) Explore will be improved more soon! Such as browsing by custom tags etc..

Thanks!

Any way to get the direct link to an image you just uploaded from within the iOS app that I'm missing?

If there isn't, please add it then the app would be great instead of just good! :)

Great to hear there's sorting coming, it really missed that. Also nice quick support when reporting someone and when my profile pic for some reason messed up.
