Mina the Hollower |OT| From the Timeline Where 2D Zelda Kept Going

Sony/someone fucked up the roll out to this game on PS5. It was impossible to find and you could not preorder it. I had to work to find it last night.

Somebody fucked up.

I found it no problem on the app

Eh, I am probably getting this. Just not feeling the anthro mouse design of it all.

Literally love everything else about this.

But yeah.... I will eventually own this. Just got to make my peace on key design issues first.

The game respects your intelligence from the get go, it's fantastic. It gets bonus points just for that.

If you are confused, there is a manual in-game, old style. Cool stuff.

It should be out on all major platforms.

I'm loving the exploration, the level design is truly great. I'm 5 hours in and I'm still exploring the area surrounding Ossex, trying to unlock all shops and shortcuts, there is so much to find and discover. I did a small sequence break with an umbrella and met an elite enemy that one shot me, lol.

The game is tough. Between the platforming, challenging combat and limited resources, it constantly keeps you on edge. You are going to die a lot but it's never unfair. It's the kind of game where you have to persevere.

You can really feel how much care has been put into every facet of the game. Everything feels incredibly refined and polished.

Btw the newspapers contain hints on some useful things to do, so be sure to read 'em!

Yes, but what I said is true. Not making it up, promise.

First, yesterday the game did not allow preorders on PSN instead just saying "coming soon."

It wasn't listed in relevant marketing lists, it wasn't listed in new games, it wasn't marketed at all on PSN.

Of course I found it with a direct search.

This is after having it wishlisted for ages then removing it. It wasn't right, this is not how other games launch and it made it difficult to find. It should have been easy to find after it popped on metacritic. iirc even when I typed Mina it wasn't the first game to appear. I'm not trying to prove it in court or anything but I'm a student of PSN and live a lonely life. I'm on it hours a day. I have bought so many games that I will never play. I know the flow of PSN and someone did Mina dirty.

Yep same with me as I was telling Arsic. I couldn't find it anywhere when I checked last week so I chalked it up to the app just being wonky. Checked again yesterday and still nothing. Finally it shows up on there today. I too was expecting more hype on the store. It wasn't even listed under new games I might like :messenger_expressionless:

I bought the Brisk Brew trinket from the trinket shop. It makes you move faster and give up a huge speed boost after hitting an enemy. It makes the combat much snappier, I'm not going to unequip it anytime soon.

There difficulty options that disable trophies like other games?
If you use some of the accessibility options it should disable the achievements from what I've heard.

You Couldn't pre order on Steam either. You had to buy it at release last night.

Game is fantastic so far. Up to the first dungeon, did a fair bit of exploration. The movement/combat tech is so good, love the burrowing especially. Seems like a ton of little secret areas/mini dungeons to find and so far they've all had a pretty unique and enjoyable challenge to do.

Art style and music just top it all off.

Could easily see this being my GOTY so far.

Very happy to read all the positive impressions. I think Mina and Grim Dawn might be my games for the rest of the year.

So it looks like shit on the big screen or it doesn't? :messenger_grinning_smiling: I've seen both answers here but nothing really definitive.
It looks weird. I don't know what to make of it. I'm about 6-7 ft from 65" oled and I noticed that the way the game is that I was missing parts in my peripheral vision. I have never noticed this before. Also some things don't pop out like they should I feel. The isometric view with the garish color combos don't help. I honestly was thinking this may be better Ina smaller screen.

Re-activated the first generator, which ended up being the one in Nox's Bayou. The soundtrack there was a banger, damn.

Once you complete that area don't forget to bring back the frog to the musicians and pay them, since it unlocks a fun boss fight at the Music Bar in Ossex.

Anyone figured out what to do with the mirrors?

Guess that goes to show the game is open (to some extent). My first generator was the Crypt. You can also unlock the daggers there though I suppose it'd be different if that was your weapon choice (I took the hammer).

Studio with less than 20 people, game is supposedly make or break for them. The game is excellent thus far and deserves some good sales. It took a long time to come out, but the polish and attention to detail is pretty amazing. Yes there is some repeating sprites/tiles, but it's fluid and snappy. Another great game for 2D lovers and the music, just wow. So impressed.

the thing about Yacht Club games is that their game design philosophy is nearly exactly my ideal way to design games.
this was already the case in Shovel Knight and its add-ons.

minimal amount button icons on screen as possible,
minimal text tutorials and a focus on level design guiding you and teaching you the mechanics intuitively,
just the right amount of challenge,
no difficulty selection when starting the game...

played the beginning, explored the town a bit, and I already can tell that this is probably my GOTY unless something insanely strong comes along.

my favourite little puzzle so far:

Can anyone follow this and upload screen video to YouTube for other folks to checkout ?

I figured it out....im on switch 2 docked playing on an OLED.

In the video settings, set Pixel Scale to 11x and then Scale Mode to fit. This then lets you fit to screen whatever value you use for pixel scale instead of full forcing the whole screen.

11x for pixel scale makes it look nice on my Bravia 65in OLED but you may like it smaller or bigger. I think 12x looks good too

I'm loving the game outside of some nitpicks. I really hope they don't cave and make the game easier because I think it's the perfect difficulty as is.

I picked hammer and so far it wasn't hard.

It's just like Bloodborne to heal which I love.
