Ugh...this was their "big" announcement huh....?
They had to have known this already got leaked, so building it up was a huge announcement is just cruel.
Man was hoping for the Nintendo Account to launch in the west. :/
How is it going to be a system seller when someone who really wanted to play Minecraft would've already gotten another system to play it on?Anyone who thinks this isn't a big deal is kidding themselves. I know tons of families that didn't buy the wii u simply because it didn't have minecraft, so they opted for a 360 or one of the other systems instead. It might be a bit late, but this could be a system seller for a lot of people.
Edit: 30 bucks!? It's 20 everywhere else.
Nintendo tax strikes again.
Also no mention of amiibos support or included Nintendo themed skins is a waste.
$30? The other versions are $20.
We're talking about Nintendo fans. It doesn't matter how they disseminate news, because they KNOW it will drive people into a frenzy. They mentioned it a time or two on twitter and some indie guy a podcast. They didn't build it up to anything, that's ypur/whoever rlses fault. Especially when the announcement was obviously either this or the smash direct thing date.
Hope that wasn't the big announcement.

Hello!
I bring exciting news! Were bringing Minecraft to Nintendo Wii U!
Thats a surprise, eh?*
Anyway, now its 100% official. Minecraft is launching on Nintendos Wii U console on December 17th. Itll cost $29:99 or equivalent, will be available to download on the eStore, and comes bundled with six of our most popular add-on packs. Theres even a Festive mash-up included just in time for the holidays.
Well be adding more content packs to Wii U Edition in the near future (Wa-hoo!), and updating the core game with free updates, just like our other platforms. As a quick reminder: all DLC packs are optional. You can have significant amounts of fun playing Minecraft without spending extra cash.
Minecraft: Wii U Edition will also feature off-TV play, so you can continue playing on the Gamepad when other people want to use the TV for less fun things like movies or other video games.
Well have more to share on Minecraft: Wii U Edition closer to its release. Looking forward to welcoming you to the world of Minecraft, Nintendo fans!

*Minecraft: Wii U Edition will have an ESRB rating of E10 and a PEGI rating of 7 for fantasy violence.

Apparently child centric games like Skylanders and Disney Infinity do really well on Wii U. Minecraft Wii U might not mean much to the average GAFfer, but it'll likely make good money for Nintendo.
Nintendo and Mojang are also collaborating on new content for Nintendo fans to be released at a future date.
