Minecraft coming to the Wii U eShop next week (Dec. 17)

I wonder why they didn't mention this in the Direct.

Twitter continues to be stupid. Most of them probably only heard the "Big news" part and didn't know the context.

They had to have known this already got leaked, so building it up was a huge announcement is just cruel.

They mentioned it a time or two on twitter and some indie guy a podcast. They didn't build it up to anything, that's ypur/whoever rlses fault. Especially when the announcement was obviously either this or the smash direct thing date.

Anyone who thinks this isn't a big deal is kidding themselves. I know tons of families that didn't buy the wii u simply because it didn't have minecraft, so they opted for a 360 or one of the other systems instead. It might be a bit late, but this could be a system seller for a lot of people.

Edit: 30 bucks!? It's 20 everywhere else.

Called it (to be fair it want the most difficult prediction to make)

This move 2 years ago could have saved WiiU, far too late to the party.

How is it going to be a system seller when someone who really wanted to play Minecraft would've already gotten another system to play it on?

We're talking about Nintendo fans. It doesn't matter how they disseminate news, because they KNOW it will drive people into a frenzy.

Hope that wasn't the big announcement.

That was the big announcement.

The announcement that the head of Indies told us to look out for.

Of course it wasn't going to be Smash, or Pokémon Z, or Metroid, or F-Zero. It was going to be something like this.

$30 for premium features, of course

it's cause it has dlc content packed in already

Right in the op
Minecraft: Wii U Edition comes with multiple add-on content packs, and will be available in the Nintendo eShop on Wii U in North America for $29.99.

Hello!

I bring exciting news! We’re bringing Minecraft to Nintendo Wii U!

That’s a surprise, eh?*

Anyway, now it’s 100% official. Minecraft is launching on Nintendo’s Wii U console on December 17th. It’ll cost $29:99 or equivalent, will be available to download on the eStore, and comes bundled with six of our most popular add-on packs. There’s even a Festive mash-up included just in time for the holidays.

We’ll be adding more content packs to Wii U Edition in the near future (Wa-hoo!), and updating the core game with free updates, just like our other platforms. As a quick reminder: all DLC packs are optional. You can have significant amounts of fun playing Minecraft without spending extra cash.

Minecraft: Wii U Edition will also feature off-TV play, so you can continue playing on the Gamepad when other people want to use the TV for less fun things like movies or other video games.

We’ll have more to share on Minecraft: Wii U Edition closer to its release. Looking forward to welcoming you to the world of Minecraft, Nintendo fans!

Owen - @bopogamel

*Minecraft: Wii U Edition will have an ESRB rating of E10 and a PEGI rating of 7 for “fantasy violence.”

This is how hype always works around here. Little comments and hints are blown way out of proportion, and the inevitable fallout is nothing but disappointment. We're our own worst enemies.

A PR guy on a Nintendo fan podcast said there would be a big announcement on Monday. If you listen to it, he really does not make it sound like it's a huge, amazing announcement. It's the internet's fault for blowing the hype out of proportion, not Nintendo's.

It's a sad state of affairs when you call the unveiling of a game that already exists on almost every other platform, a "big" announcement.

Apparently child centric games like Skylanders and Disney Infinity do really well on Wii U. Minecraft Wii U might not mean much to the average GAFfer, but it'll likely make good money for Nintendo.

Seeing as how minecraft is on everything from consoles to phones to tablets, I am not sure it's going to sell millions.

Because every single day new kids learn about minecraft and want to play it. Minecraft finds new audience members all the time. When a kid tells his parents they want minecraft, now the parents have another system to consider for the purchase (if they don't want their kid playing on a PC).

Wii U is incredibly appealing for parents buying a minecraft system for their 6-7 year old. Add mario kart and splatoon into the mix and it's a fantastic system for kids.

Also, off-tv play has got to be incredibly appealing for households with a limited number of televisions.

THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS SO HUGE THAT I DON'T EVEN HAVE WORDS FOR IT

Nintendo platforms always seemed like a perfect place for Minecraft, especially with the touch functionalities on both the Wii U and 3DS. Nintendo not jumping on this game five years ago remains a huge blunder.

Better late than never I guess.

I thought Minecraft was released on Wii U ages ago

Very disappointing, but it's Nintendo, so it was to be expected tbh
