The graphics are wierd in the Win10 edition.
Its like the lighting isn't as good as the Java version and in the distance it looks atrocious like there's no anisotropic filtering AT ALL.

Holy crap the max render distance in W10 version is incredible! And the world generates so much faster.

When does that patch drop anyways?
We don't know yet.

That said though, I've not done any work on the OT revamp yet. I've been working overtime and I've been doing an impromptu rebuilding of my house's plumbing system (damn old copper pipes!), so if the patch releases soon I won't be ready, LOL!

Given they're doing a beta I think you've still got some time :)

Yeah I was blown away by the performance on my machine using the W10 version. Definitely will hop on a server if someone makes one.

Is it really that much of a leap over the Java version?

I can settle for 60fps when I run continuum shaders and 128x128 texture packs. But the combination of faster loading, apparently spectacular draw distance and the upcoming hi res super duper textures etc. might sell me on win10.

Just build a new world and found a great and beautiful base locale - right on a four corner seam between biomes.

Before I get my fishing farm set up chime in guys and gals. Is win10 worth it?

In short, yeah, it is that much faster at generating a world where you can see super far away. Once the W10 version reaches parity with the Java version (soon from the sound of it), I'm switching for good.

I generated a new creative world, set render distance to max, which is 56 chunks, flew up in the air and looked in all directions. The world was generated all the way to the horizon in all directions in about 20 seconds, all at 60fps. (i7 6700, non-gaming workstation GPU) It's insane.

56 chunks in creative mode? HOLY....
The beta only allows something like 24

I want to fly above GAFland spawn and be able to see it all. Was there a 16-chunk render limit on multiplayer servers in Java and does the Bedrock version also have that limit (if anybody even knows yet)?

So we should start looking for a decent seed for Gaftopia/Gafistan/Gafia/Gafshire.

Mineatlas doesn't appear to support Win10 properly, so unless there's some wonderseed out there that someone knows of, we should just generate a bunch of random ones. Biome density is no.1 priority I guess?

I could only set it to 48 chunks but even that was fucking great. And yeah, it loads so damn fast. I don't know why I never bothered touching the W10 version until now.
I got on a friend's realm the other night and am very impressed by the Win10 version. Everything just seems to work better. I hope they start ot add all of the 3rd party options the Java version supported, but yeah, I doubt I'll ever go back.

GAFLAND WIN10. Lets do it!

Actually the world generation might not have changed all that much from the lastest Java or something. Maybe we can find a seed that is almost the same result...

Wait there's curvature of the world in Minecraft? Has that always been the case? How does that even work if the world is infinite, can you zoom out far enough to see some kind of globe?

Infinite worlds will have all biomes - working with what you get given has always been part of the fun of Minecraft for me.

Put me down for team random seed.

I think that's an illusion caused by POV combined with circular vision.

For the record, not everything is better. The W10 version's lava and water doesn't flow correctly in the current version, and it's missing a few things from the Java version yet. But yeah, the W10 version runs like a screaming banshee compared to the Java client.

Really goes to show just how much Java has held the game back performance wise all these years .

Any chance for the next world we could get someone who's good at command blocks to make it possible to have Mob Griefing turned on?

Mob Griefing allows mobs to break blocks and pick up things. This includes things like creepers blowing up blocks, endermen picking them up, zombies picking up weapons, villagers picking up food, villagers breaking and planting crops, etc.

I totally get the reason to disable creepers and endermen messing with blocks because of the creative aspect of the server, but not being able to give villagers food makes it impossible for survival players like me to make villager breeders or farms where villagers harvest the crops.

I know on Hermitcraft the have a command block setup that will give every enderman who spawns a "phantom block" to hold so they won't pick up any real ones. They can't place it because it's not real and it vanishes when they are killed. Xsiumavoid has a guide on how to set this up.

I think there is also a way to reduce the damage creepers and other mob explosions do to blocks so they can still hurt players but not break blocks.

So, if a server is made for W10 or whatever, I could play on that same server using a Switch or XBox or Mobile? I've been thinking about getting back into Minecraft, so that would be pretty cool.

I'm actually excited for the idea of a win10 server.

For what it's worth -

Random seeds are so good. I have fun adapting and building things with the terrain in mind.

Mob griefing in general sounds like a negative but the ability to make villager farms is a huge plus. We'd need someone capable with the command blocks though as previously stated.

Also I'd like to add that if command blocks are going to be a thing on this server, I'd love to see the single player sleep feature. Basically only on player on the server has to use a bed in order to advance to morning.

I'm not saying my preferences are more important than anyone else's, but if someone is looking to make this happen then I figure getting some feedback could be helpful.

Eh, you don't want a *totally* random seed. Some are terrible for MP - like, starting on a tiny island with nothing but desert and ocean for 1000 blocks in all directions.

Command block stuff: Researching it and not finding much. So much minecraft information is hidden in youtube videos rather than being nicely typed out. Damned annoying.

That's incredibly rare though - it's never happened to me in the Windows 10 version, and I must've created at least 50 worlds by this point. Seriously, try creating a world in the Windows 10 edition right now, and keep creating more (it only takes a second each time). It's not an issue anymore.

As for my preferred settings: keep thongs default, although maybe tick that 'large biomes' box. Creepers destroying things sucks, but that's part of the game - mining becomes inane without their threat, as does night time. I don't like the idea of 'one person sleeps, we all sleep'. Endermen only spawn when the light level is at 7 or less - all it then takes is for one person to sleep and getting ender pearls becomes 50x more arduous.

Heh, I must have had bad luck, cos something along those lines happened twice when I was seed-surfing last night!

As for hosting this server, we have a decision to make. Realms or 3rd Party. Realms is fully supported and is always up to date with the client. But it's vanilla only (with settings) and max. 10 players. 3rd Party means using Pocketmine server software, which lags behind the client release version and can be buggy, but has plugin support and as many players as we can afford.

Oh, yeah. If the new server has command blocks, I'd be mighty enthused. I had a lot of cool projects in my single player world back in the day, and I believe command blocks have only gotten better since.

Given how people hated losing the Bukkit stuff and how command blocks were a pretty weak replacement on GAFland, we're probably better off rolling our own third-party.

He doesn't want creepers blowing stuff up.

He wants to be able to use the villager functions, which some get disabled if mob griefing is off.
Yeah, I hate this.

I want to be able to control each type of mob-item interaction individually.

I want to disable Creeper damage, Enderman damage, Zombie door destroying (No matter what skill level) and enemy item pickups, but keep in villager pickups. Also let me disable Zombie's killing villagers period. I don't want to have to babysit them.

Then again, I wish we had more control over Villagers in that we could assign them homes and things to do. Even if it requires a bunch of .JSON files and a Resource Pack to do it. I'm building a village, let me populate it! It'd be amazing to sit and watch Villagers all come out of their houses every morning, run around interacting with each other, then all return to their own homes when the sun goes down. Instead of all piling into whatever the closest house with a door is. (In a really old server world I had about 200+ villagers all cramming themselves into a single 3x3 wooden house while a dozen Iron Golems wandered around. I was breeding them while I built a village around them. Man, as soon as I broke the fence on the top of the house where they were all waiting they came pouring out. It was spectacular.)

Oh man, regardless of what happens with mob griefing I'm hella excited for the future server. I haven't played in many months (other than with my daughter but she's calling the shots) and I'm ready to drain myself an ocean monument all over again. There have been some automatic sand placing systems developed too so you can just AFK and have all the sand partitions made around and across the monument for you!

This happened to me on an old server.

I actually kind of found the long journey to fun. Kind of like a pilgrimage. And as soon as you get a nether portal system set up it becomes a non-issue.

I know right, haha.

I have an idea for build on the ocean floor where there are no physical walls holding the water back. If the top water sources flow and fall all the way down into a trench then the source blocks below then will not flow beyond the downward current of the top block. As long as no source blocks are placed at the corners to create a chain reaction of source block creation it should have a very "Moses parting the sea" look to it. I'll have the guardian grinder above and then trees and grassland below, similar to what I have below my base on the current server, but this time with almost the entire monument removed. Not sure where I'll put all my farms and such but I'll figure that out later.

I also just watched TangoTek's new Iron Phoenix build that will automatically create a 64 village iron farm that produces 2600 iron ingots per hour. O_O I took a lot of iron from the little farm on the current server, but it had been building up for a LONG time so there was plenty for the taking. Iron is gonna be scarce on a brand new server so I'll have to build some type of farm and that one looks pretty interesting since you don't have to spend hours placing and removing doors over and over to get all the village positions generated in the right spot.

My "hopes" for any new server would be no Creeper damage to the environment and there must be /tp functions. Not being able to get back to spawn quickly really limits interactions, especially when spawn looks so damn good when all is said and done.
