Minecraft: Wii U Edition Doesn’t Allow Inventory Management On The GamePad

In off-TV mode the inventory screen can become an overlay screen like a traditional single screen game i.e The Wind Waker HD.

while true, that doesn't mean they couldn't have implemented it for those playing on TV.
iirc, Wind Waker does that. You switch between the mode that shows gameplay on TV, menu / inventory on the gamepad and a mode that shows everything on the gamepad (for off-TV purposes) by pressing the (-) button.

The best games designed for the WiiU support both. Interactive Map and UI on the touch screen when playing on the TV, with buttons to bring the map and UI up separately (like on every other platform) when playing off the TV.

Apparently that's not within the scope or budget of this port. Inexcusable.

Is Wind Waker the only game that does this? Y'know, touch layer over the off-tv feature?

Because it might be Nintendo having "first party secrets". If that makes any sense.

Always hoped it would basically be this.

:(

Yeah. The one thing that the Wii-U gamepad excels at and they just didn't give a shit. The biggest reason why people kept clamoring for a goddamn wii-U version in the first place.

The people defending it are hilarious though.

No Gamepad, no buy.
Hopefully they will patch it with the phisycal release (that will be packed, imho, with the aformentioned Nintendo packs)

Nintendo preparing extra non-standard hardware never makes additional feature to magically "pop-up" to the third party software I guess..
But that really isn't limited to Nintendo. Anything minor has to suffer the apathy from third party.

I thought bringing Minecraft to the Wii U so incredibly late was the biggest mistake, but that was until I read this thread.

THEY HAD ONE JOB TO DO!!!! WTF?

It's nice to see Mojang join the leagues of other third parties who create a port for Nintendo's newest console years after the game came out on everything else, only to not make use of the one feature that differentiates the console from everything else and would fit their game perfectly.

Really feels like they have arrived on Nintendo.
It does feel a bit like the GameCube days again, doesn't it?

The CPU just isn't powerful enough.
This is probably true, though I can't see an inventory system causing that much trouble. Maybe if they were rendering the world twice? Maybe a multiplayer concession? How does this run on vita or ps3 even?

Microsoft probably doesn't want a "best" version of their newfound IP to be on a system they're in direct competition with.

It'd risk turning Minecraft into a "Nintendo game" in a lot of people's minds.

EDIT: It also give the Wii U the image of having "one more game" that's perfect for the gamepad but doesn't use it in any real manner...
Probably giving them too much credit, but this could actually be a pretty deviously calculated move on MS's part.

No excuse to not have gamepad screen support in the way it should, but it doesn't change anything for me. I planned on using the pro controller anyway, if they let me.

Still, not buying it until Nintendo themed skins come out.

Edit: didn't they already confirm spit screen? So of course it'll use the pro controller.

No chance of that, mate. There aren't enough Wii U systems in circulation.

This could've been the one thing that set it apart from the countless other versions. I see absolutely no reason for anyone to purchase this unless they only own a Wii U.

Funnily enough, the GCN to GBA connectivity feature felt more supported than this. An expensive optional feature used more than the controller everyone has. Third party logic.

Inevitable consequence of Microsoft owning Minecraft. Gradually they'll start shifting Craft to first party as much as possible. They'll probably do this by not porting it to say the Playstation 5

Another half-assed port to the Wii U??? YOU DON'T SAY. At least it will get Nintendo IP goodies ... maybe. Makes you appreciate even more developers like Criterion who actually tried on the system.

The machine is on its way out, so its good that its getting a port to begin with. To expect a more tailored conversion with full game pad support is a little too much. Especially given that the NX is arriving next year.

And they are going to charge $30 for this?

That's what I was thinking. It's $10 more than the Xbox One and PS4 versions, without any Wii U specific features? I would have thought at least they would have included some Mario skins or texture packs.

I know Minecraft targets Nintendo's core audience and all, but fleecing them - especially kids and families - for the extra $10 just feels like a money grab at this point.

Hey Reggie, you know what else supports off-screen play? The portable version. And it's only $7.

Do we know if world size/features are comparable to 360 or XB1? Any news yet? That's what I care about most, TBH.

This could have been a nice unique port of the PC version... rather than just another port of the Console version...

In case of this particular feature, not at all. You need your menus to support both touch and buttons, and that's pretty much it.

Yeah. Microsoft owns Minecraft. No way they'd make the Wii U version superior to others, they're too focused on it for the Hololens.

First page of the thread says it all. Scratch that....majority of the thread says it all..lol

Might not matter in the grand scheme of things....its still Minecraft. But I agree this is a missed opportunity. It hasnt been on the Wii U from the beginning...and this cant be implemented for the launch of the game?

Why does everybody act as if Nintendo is the cause of the inflated price? Reggie won't be pocketing these 10$, Microsoft will.

I'm sure Nintendo would have preferred to have the original game earlier rather than those lame e-shop rip-offs. But I guess it's easier to pile up on the Nintendo bashing...
