It's not like it could make the situation worse, so.... who knows?I don't see the Wii U magically fixing that.

Any platform except for Sony's. I guess Sakaguchi still blames Sony for everything that happened with Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.
If we have to suffer cell phone games for this to be the end result, then I'm all for it.

Hahaha, good point.
I hope Atlus releases at least one JRPG using the Catherine engine and ports it to Wii U. That alone would greatly improve the situation.

True, though looking at the coming years, I don't think going to PS4/720 is a great idea for many Japanese developers.
I see them being even more reliant on handhelds at that point.
3DS the single defining JRPG console of the generation? Should be interesting. I'm assuming the Vita won't amount to much.I see them being even more reliant on handhelds at that point.

3ds and psp/vita
I can only assume you meant to write that the other way around.

Hashino said that they've dumped the Catherine engine (Gamebryo) and have since created their own internal engine for P5.

3DS makes a lot more sense going forward.
I always assumed Microsoft but there were two Blue Dragon sequels on the DS.I like to know who own the IP of Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey Mistwalker or Microsoft?
But not sure why companies would ignore the large psp userbase if they don't have to
Well eventually there comes a point where everyone moves on.

It's the new SNES, and Mistwalker can be the new Square.
I'm baffled why they ignored the PSP and PS3 fanbase when they're currently the largest JRPG systems, especially the former.
They're not though. Mistwalker made games on DS which was actually the biggest JRPG platform this gen. They all bombed anyway.I'm baffled why they ignored the PSP and PS3 fanbase when they're currently the largest JRPG systems, especially the former.
Action RPG? Maybe it'll actually be good then unlike Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. And no I'm not saying that classic turn based is bad, just that those were bad games in the genre. I haven't bothered with The Last Story yet either so maybe they can't do ARPGs either.
Why would Sony have a problem? Sakaguchi doesn't want to develop for their platforms. He's pretty childish.I don't think Sakaguchi and Sony really want to work together anymore at all.
Seems like they are trying to catch Nintendo's attention. I doubt Iwata is interested though.

Sony distributed Spirits Within. Sony also bought a large portion of Square to help keep it afloat after the flop. There's no way they're excited to do business with Sakaguchi again.
I really have mixed feelings for Mistwalker. At start I thought games like Blue Dragon could be real successors to the Final Fantasy legacy, but then Lost Odyssey came and wasn't even that fun. From there on, I didn't buy anymore Sakaguchi's games. I think the man lost it, doesn't have the resources nor talents to fully develop his (cool sometimes) ideas. It really helps understanding better how Square (and Square Enix) were (/are) more an "ecosystem" (lol) of many talents and not just the work of one man. Square Enix kept making good games here and there when he left, Mistwalker didn't make a single decent one in the mean time.
Until the ecosystem collapsed, of course.
Being on a Sony platform doesn't guarantee they would have done any better.I never said those sold well... In fact, I said they had issues, Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey being some of them. None of their games have really been hits, and part of the reason has been due to the platform's they've been on.
Yeah being a launch title and in a genre thats usually lacking in launch periods would give them much needed exposure.Maybe they should do a "Last Story Special Edition" port to the Wii U. I'd be much more interested in that than a Mass Effect 3 or Arkahm Asylum port. With so few games at launch it could potentially stand out just enough to get noticed.
