Miyamoto: Pikmin 4 in development, "very close to completion"

I don't think that's a valid criticism about Command, but even if it was we have a Star Fox Wii U on the way

That is true, I feel like im the only one who thinks it looks pretty groovy at times.
Plus we got 64 again, which is all Star fox fans really want.
That we did. It was fun, the multi was pretty cool, too bad it wasnt online.

Do they really? I never really paid much attention, never the biggest star fox fan.

Also, he did say portable games don't count.

Did he? well, I cant be arsed to look. Ill tell the elves to take you off of Santas naughty list.

Why? I'd have to think that if its "almost done" it wouldn't be an NX title, nor would it be casually announced even by Miyamoto.

well if it was a wii u title, why wouldn't he say so? and if it's "almost done", why didn't we see it at E3?

sounds like nx to me. first we got a nx software tease from square, and now nintendo. besides, dropping it on a dead console during its final year on the market is a waste.

That is entirely too reasonable to be the case.

I would argue that portable releases certainly count haha, why would we just ignore them? It's also really weird to single out Pikmin as getting preferential treatment to the other two when all three have games on the way in the near future (Pikmin 4 might not even be til NX), and the other two have had more games in less time than Pikmin. It's just a bizarre argument. I mean shit dude, Sakamoto was in charge of Other M while Prime was relegated to a nobody studio. They gave Smash to Namco too, but it was fine. They didn't try to make bad games I don't think.

If Smash Bros, 3d Mario and Mario Kart skipped the console, do you not think that the big hardcore gamers would be pissed? It's not to say handhelds 'don't count' it's that people want the big hitters to be on their most powerful systems. You can bet your ass if Smash was 3ds only there would be blood :p

This is my thoughts as well. It's gotta be NX really. A launch title alongside Retro's new game and maybe EAD Tokyo's would be stellar.

I'm wondering how it would control on a new NX controller. Wii remote and nunchuck were pure bliss, but I somehow doubt it'll make the transition to Nintendo's next controller. Nintendo is in an odd spot with the way their franchises have developed with completely different controller inputs over the last decade.

I wonder if Gyro-style reticule aiming, like in Splatoon, would work in Pikmin. Not quite the wiimote IR pointer, but it could be really affective and allow full camera controls with the 2nd analog.

But with that said, Pikmin 4, hell fuckin yes!

Ive been wondering why we haven't gotten a pikmin ds or 3ds game ever. It seems like an easy fit what with the touch screen and all.

I got Pikmim 3 for free with MK8 but never really got into it. The time constraint turned me off and I was afraid of missing out on stuff.
Until this past May, where I read about the time limit being a non-issue and gave it another go. Absolutely fell in love with the game. Who would've thought collecting fruit can be so satisfying?

I can say I'm excited to play the next one, be it on Wii U or NX.

Same here. Got it for free and never really cared about it. Gave it a go on the weekend together with the kids and had a lot of fun.

Make it a game about the Wario and Waluigi equivalents of Olimar and Louie.

They have to release some software next year on Wii U. Hopefully releasing on an outgoing platform means we won't have to hear about it for like a year afterwards in every Nintendo presentation.

How would that even work? Olimar and Louie are already greedy amoral treasure hunters. Olimar is narcissistic and willing to use slave labor to meet his ends, while Louie is kind of like this selfish idiot.

Neither are as terrible as Brittany of course.

with zelda, smtxfe and pokken, next year is looking like the greatest final year a nintendo console has ever had

they don't need pikmin 4 to die with wii u.

Regardless of the platform it lands on, I think we can expect Pikmin 4 before the Wii U port of Zelda.

Don't forget there is Mario Tennis for Wii U as well(lol, sort of). Also I see Zelda pulling a TP and launching on NX as well. Nintendo probably spent a large amount of time and money developing the engine and they want to use it for multiple titles. Notice how they've concentrated on developing content for engines that have already been developed: NSMBU-NSLU-SMM(sort of), SM3DL-SM3DW-Captain Toad, ALBW-Triforce Heroes, Hyrule Warriors-DLC-3DS port, SSB4 3DS/Wii U-DLC, FE:A-DLC-FE:Fates-DLC and MK8-DLC.

As for Pikmin, it'd be nice if the franchise could be on a successful console for once. Not to say NX will be successful but we know for sure the Wii U isn't. I was disappointed that it missed the Wii, I think it could've been a lot bigger of a franchise if marketed correctly.

3ds can't handle Pikmin 4 unless it's seriously crippled. Also, pikmins on that screen? 8-bit retro.

Mobile can't handle Pikmin 4 without a stylus due to the lack of accuracy.

But don't let logic stop you.

On a more positive note, I hope Pikmin 4 has online Bingo Battle.

Edit: also, I doubt Nintendo would announce a game close to completion 1 year before its launch. So I kind of doubt the NX theory. Plus that would have been a nice surprise announcement together with NX announcement.

I wouldn't want to play a handheld Pikmin. They'd either have to significantly reduce the number of Pikmin you have at once or you'd barely be able to see what's going on.

Oh hell yes. I haven't played nearly as much Pikmin 3 as I want to, but what a great game. I'm so glad this series is still alive.

If it's gonna be on the 3DS - which I highly doubt - they would need to alter the gameplay in a significant way. You wouldn't be able to control your Pikmin army on that tiny screen (or realize what's going on at all).

So the Eurogamer interview was embargoed by Nintendo until yesterday. I wonder why - could have only been because of the Pikmin 4 announcement? By why did the embargo end yesterday? It's all so weird.

OUT OF FUCKING NOWHERE!

Wow, I am super excited.
Wonder if pruple and white Pikmin will come back. And if there's new Pikmin. What about a green Pikmin type? Could be used to dig into the ground and attack enemies from below or something. That would be my idea, at least.

Are you familiar with a game called Pikmin 3?

I'm not familiar with any quote regarding Pikmin 3 being very close to completion. Can you point it out for me?

well, it was actually delayed from launch to June of the year after. I think many people are burnt by that. plus, it was actually informally revealed as this one may years before its actual release, so if you add those two points, you can see why many people are not so confident in seeing it as soon as the announcment makes it sound

E3 2008: Pikmin 3 'is being made for Wii'
July 2012: 'Pikmin 3 is a launch window Wii U game'
November 2012: Wii U launches
July 2013: Pikmin 3 launches

Miyamoto and Nintendo as a whole are always incredibly vague about the development status of software. Sometimes they will say 'we are thinking about ideas for a new game' when the game is actually in full development already. Sometimes they'll say 'it's almost finished' when they are a year or more away from release, as with Twilight Princess.

So we can expect it in May based on Pikmin 3? It was a big launch window, but not too far off. Zelda took so long because of Wii (and now NX).

Launch window releases like Pikmin 3 were delayed because of HD, just as the delays for Game & Wario, Wii Fit U and Wonderful 101.

"is being made" = just started

"Launch window" = safe term for +1 year after launch.

None of those are even close to "very close to completion". This is from a company who doesn't announce release date up until several months before. The difference in nuance is damn clear, really.

Why wouldn't it be Wiiu? Who's going to buy a nx anyhow? Can anyone say it's going to be any different than the Wiiu in software support? Why is everyone so excited about a system which they know almost nothing about? Might as well bring it out on Wiiu.

NX needs as many releases as possible simply for that reason; Wii U support has likely left a bad taste in many consumers mouth. It's gonna need strong software at launch and after launch if it has any chance at being a success. Nintendo needs to change the current image of "no games".

Also, the fact that Wii U is fading quickly. There is a very real chance that Pikmin 4 could sell better as a launch title on new hardware with an install base of zero than the Wii U, despite it's 10 million install base.

That being said it could be multiplat with Wii U and NX.

It could be that Nintendo is hoping for Super Mario Maker to pump a little life back into the Wii U. And they may have a case to rightfully hope so. This could end up being Wii Us best non launch year sales wise.

So maybe we didn't see it yet, because they themselves don't know if they'd release it on Wii U or NX. If Mario Maker takes off and revitalizes the Wii U for some time, maybe they'll show and release it relatively fast to make use of it and have something fresh and unannounced for next year.

Mario Maker doesn't take off? Wii U further on decline? NX it is. Pikmin has a history of being ported over, so it may as well become a launch game.
Nintendo is the one company that made it clear often enough to always have hope left for the one game to turn everything around.

Definitely give the Pikmin attraction in Nintendo Land a try, too. It's kinda similar and offers a ton of content. Very challenging, too.

That one comes out this year. :)

Didn't Miyamoto say Star Fox Zero was nearly done at E3 2014?

Miyamoto's conception of "nearly finished" is not necessarily the same as everyone else's.

I remember him saying he planned to have it done by this year. I don't remember him ever saying it was "nearly finished" at last year's E3.

No, it had barely started. They didn't even have a real team on it yet. They were just spending time internally trying to get the feel for the control. It's the reason they didn't really showcase it as anything more than a pre-alpha last year on-screen.

wait..UOT!? He said quite the opposite: "we cannot show you anything because it is just a concept and I'm still looking for a team to help me out to develop the game."

Tons of people werent' even sure the game would have been released in 2015, in fact.

He said he wanted to finish Star Fox within a year. The release plans for that game probably changed after Zelda got delayed. I don't think he was far off.

When Miyamoto says "very close to completion", I believe him.

After letting this marinate I'm going to place my bets on this being a Wii U game. I'm thinking Galaxy 2 and Majora's Mask style let's make something real quick with these assets. If it turns out as great as those two, then great.
