I wonder why the quick turnaround for this new Pikmin? Usually a new Miyamoto game in a AAA franchise means new gameplay ideas, which makes me think NX and it's interface.....
I know it's hard to answer this question precisely but I'd bet it's around 1M (summing digital + physical copies)
Source: VGZ (not totally reliable but I think it shows at least a trend)
Metroid, F-Zero, Star Fox, etc all get treated worse than Pikmin has in general, and all of them at some points were as big or bigger than Pikmin. Meanwhile Pikmin has representation in the system transfer process on an OS level and now 4 games in the series despite the general sales for them being closer to 1 million (I think only 1 sold near 2 million)
Really, the series has never released on a successful platform, but Splatoon will likely outsell all 3 of the existing Pikmin titles combined. I've just always felt the series had a bit of an unfair push compared to other bigger Nintendo IP. Thankfully, I really do like the series so it's not a personal problem, but I can see why some people ponder how they keep coming. Perhaps they are just low budget?
We had Pikmin and Pikmin 2 and Galaxy and Galaxy 2 in the past, probably other examples too.I wonder why the quick turnaround for this new Pikmin? Usually a new Miyamoto game in a AAA franchise means new gameplay ideas, which makes me think NX and it's interface.....

They're not even remotely reliable
Why? I'd have to think that if its "almost done" it wouldn't be an NX title, nor would it be casually announced even by Miyamoto. We should know how much Pikmin 3 sold, right? Aren't the numbers out there?
I have to imagine 4 will drop on NX.

The Metroid bitching in this thread is so annoying. I like the Metroid games I've played (Super Metroid, Prime and Other M) but the fanbase is so annoying. First they ruined DKCTF threads now this.
It's not like Retro or Sakamoto's team is doing Pikmin 4.
Games can be done but saved for release at the appropriate time.
If Nintendo plans for NX to do well, they'll need to have several big titles ready to go at launch.
Between Pikmin 1 and 3 we had:
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Mwtroid Fusion
Metroid: Zero Mission
Classic NES Series: Metroid
Metroid Prime Pinball
Metroid Prime: Hunters
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Metroid: Other M
Starfox Adventures
Starfox: Assault
Starfox:Combat
Starfox 64 3D
Pikmin 2
New Play Control! Pikmin
New Play Control! Pikmin 2
They surely keep coming

Pikmin skipped a whole generation, Metroid and Star Fox didn't. You're being really arbitrary if you're saying that well dried up lol.Metroid did get a really big push for a bit that's for sure, but the well dried up in a really powerful way. Also, Other M wasn't even made in house entirely and is a turd. Star Fox? Same situation, there hasn't been an in house project in that series that was an original game since 64, with Adventures being a reskinned Dinosaur Planet.
Basically, whenever Nintendo makes a Pikmin game, they seem to take it serious and ensure it is a quality project, with Metroid, they did good to nurture Retro to handle that series, but the attention Metroid gets today is nothing compared to what Pikmin has been getting. Star fox, not even close, they have treated that game like shit since 64, and Command/Assault are awful games, you'll never see Nintendo allow that to happen to Pikmin.
I guess this is more my main issue, Nintendo not treating these series like they matter while keeping Pikmin internal, I have no idea why Pikmin skipped the Wii in the end, but it seems to me like they in general respect the series a lot more than some of their other higher selling properties.
Hell, Star Fox Zero still has Platinum helping, but I believe it's at least in part in house which is the only reason it probably has a chance at this point to not be a bad game.
On a more serious note, I doubt they have NX games "close to completion", especially of the caliber of Pikmin.
But at the same time, I don't see Wii U getting a new Pikmin game. Maybe it's a 3DS title? (don't @ me, Luigi's Mansion 2 slayed the charts)
She can come back in the same way the Ship came back in Pikmin 3.Look here's the thing about Pikmin 4: If they don't bring back Brittany, the entire game is worthless.
I like this alternative to the day night cycle. Keep it in but make it fit the storyline in a natural way. I just hate rushing back to the ship constantly. I suck at time limits/ time management in all the games any way. Just get rid of it and let us freely explore. Of course by changing so drastically the game would have to change the world layouts and perhaps make them bigger and maybe make enemies tougher. They could make enemies tougher at night, but also have tougher Pikmin to handle the greater hazards at night. I guess I'll keep dreaming.Nighttime + Green glow-in-the-dark pikmin + crazy-ass nocturnal predators would be pretty great.

You're just arguing for Pikmin being a great game series? How is that bad? It's still not getting barely any attention at all, hence why the reveal was Miyamoto just saying "yeah Pikmin 4 will be out soon" in some random interview. You seem a little delusional.
No idea what is going on here, but metroid totally skipped a generation, and its going to be skipping this one as well.
I'm talking about since Pikmin's creation, and there's a new Metroid on the way that was formally announced at E3 instead of being revealed on a gaming website haha. Or is it not the Metroid you wanted so it doesn't count? 😩No idea what is going on here, but metroid totally skipped a generation, and its going to be skipping this one as well.

I don't know, I was thinking about modern consoles... they going to be more of a modern PC, the architecture X64 is almost defined (my guess, based on the fact of third parties costs)...
And you can develop a game using a modern PC and then you can port it to the NX OS syscalls as well as GPU API. (or already using headers of such apis)
I think, nowdays devkits are mostly "set of apis" ...
By the way I would like to know if my assumptions are right? ^

CPU architecture is largely irrelevant to modern game development. It is largely handled by compilers now. Incidentally, Nintendo is more likely to pick ARM than x86_64, since they've suggested the console and handheld will be very similar architecturally, and ARM scales up better than x86_64 scales down.
While I don't have experience working specifically with consoles, what you describe for porting is probably the biggest task, but there'd probably be some other stuff to do, as well. Lots of interesting things can go wrong during porting.
You're wrong about devkits, though. I don't know what specifically is included for console devkits, but they'd probably have, at minimum:
*Libraries/Header Files
*Documentation
*Compilers
*Test hardware
*Probably some other dev tools.
*Probably some other thing I'm forgetting

Sure, but could Pikmin 4 count for that? And they still didn't specify for which platform it is, for all we know it could be for 3DS even.
I would argue that portable releases certainly count haha, why would we just ignore them? It's also really weird to single out Pikmin as getting preferential treatment to the other two when all three have games on the way in the near future (Pikmin 4 might not even be til NX), and the other two have had more games in less time than Pikmin. It's just a bizarre argument. I mean shit dude, Sakamoto was in charge of Other M while Prime was relegated to a nobody studio. They gave Smash to Namco too, but it was fine. They didn't try to make bad games I don't think.Star Fox skipped the Wii, Metroid skipped the Wii U and F-Zero skipped both. It getting a portable release that was ass doesn't really count as servicing fans of the IP, command is the worst game in the series and is about as much a real star fox game as Mario Tennis was to Mario 64 (aside Tennis actually being good, of course)
I'm not trying to pick a fight, I just feel Nintendo discards these series that deserve similar treatment to the Pikmin series. Throwing the properties at Namco or other random companies and producing shit entries doesn't really keep the fans happy you know?
So Nintendo is going to sit on a niche sequel to a niche game (that is in no way a system seller) for a year+ so that it can be released on a new, unproven platform.Games can be done but saved for release at the appropriate time.

Pikmin is a large game, with a grand adventure and tons of content. I see no reason why a great entry in the series wouldnt.
3ds? There is no way the 3ds cpu could handle an actual pikmin game. Not even the new 3ds cpu.

I don't think that's a valid criticism about Command, but even if it was we have a Star Fox Wii U on the way 😳So you are purposefully ignoring his points and pretending to be obtuse about them in order to make strawmen?
Like where you ignore how he says command didnt service fans of the ip because it was a shitty game that didnt do the things starfox was about... But responded to it as if he said command didnt count because it was portable.
Thats a pretty shitty thing to do.... I dont think I need to see how this started to see whats going on.
I get that, but what I mean is, is the general concensus that a Pikmin game is a "big game" like heavy hitter game(for example a Mario Kart, 2D Mario, Zelda, Pokémon, Animal Crossing to name some Nintendo games)?
I guess it can't be outruled just yet.
