Miyamoto: Pikmin 4 in development, "very close to completion"

If they did it this fast it's built with Pikmin 3 assets a la Pikmin 1 -> Pikmin 2 and is a Wii U game. Which is fine with me because that game is gorgeous and needed expansion.

But wow that's the most random thing to drop casually in an interview.

I have one request: Bloborb Amiibo. Maybe even plush?

You mean big plush,or amiibo plush like Yoshi? Cause there is already a big plush - my daughter has one and loves it.

All three games were great

It will probably use Pikmin 3 engine. But even if its something completely different from the other games, I'm happy this is happening

Pikmin 5 will be revealed by Miyamoto to a random guy on a plane I'M CALLING IT!

Why?

I am not sarcastic, I just really can't come up with a good answer.

Because managing 100 poorly drawn little pikmins on the small screen of 3ds without compromising the gameplay would be a nightmare. This assuming that 3ds can even run the game with more than 3 pikmins at the same time on the screen. And touch controls would use the even smaller screen of 3ds making it an even bigger mess. Without touch controls, only the new 3ds would offer a somehow decent control scheme.

Close to completion doesn't sound like Holiday 2016, to fit the earliest possible date for NX.

On the other hand, it's Pikmin, so anything is possible.

There is no way even new 3ds's cpu can handle a traditional pikmin game.

My hype depends on if this is built from the ground up for the Wii U or if it's just Pikmin 3's engine. Because we all know Pikmin 3 used Wii assests for tons of things like the grass and ground.

Maybe Nintendo will reprint Pikmin 3 now so the physical version isn't rare anymore?

I would be surprised if they didn't make use of that engine. I would be even more surprised if they weren't able to make that engine look incredible now they've had a few years of HD development under their belt.

The time limit and juice limit always prevents proper exploration. I dislike the time pressure.
My son and I feel the same way. That's why I prefer Pikmin 2 more than 1 or 3. We always hear about how there is plenty of fruit in Pikmin 3 and the ability to go back 1 day, but I do not like feeling pressured to explore under these limitations, even though it is less stressful than Pikmin 1.

Pikmin 2 has its flaws, but out of the 3 its the best solution, though it would be nice if Nintendo created a new Pikmin without the limiting day night cycle also.

Meanwhile, no new Super Mario sidescroller since 2012.

And Nintendo wonders why the Wii U won't sell? Hmmm.

New Super Mario Bros. (2012)
New Super Luigi U (2013)
Super Mario 3D World (2013)
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (2014)
Kirby And The Rainbow Curse (2015)
Yoshi's Woolly World (2015)

Yeah. So I don't think Mario or 2D side-scrolling platformers were lacking. Splatoon is going to outsell them all (except NSMBU) it looks like.

I would love to see this on the NX. In fact Nintendo would be crazy if they're developing this for the Wii U. It would be such to waste sales wise and quality wise.

It's almost as if people weren't getting sick and confused by 3D games after all and adjusting half of their portfolio to the 2D NSMB success almost a decade ago wasn't that smart.
Mario Maker should have been the WiiU launch title and replaced pretty much that entire list.

uGh I sold my Wii U about a month ago, I absolutely love Pikmin so this news is kinda making me regret selling. If Star Fox ends up being good I might have to buy another Wii U for that and Pikmin 4.

YEEEEEESSSSS!

The only way this announcement could be any better would be if you could finally explore around the Pikmin planet at nighttime.

Sounds great, I hope it is on the NX which will, hopefully, have a much better CPU than the Wii U. If they're going to follow series trends and add a fourth captain to control, I hope that means they up the pikmin limit to two hundred or higher. At least the multiplayer should let every player have 100 of their own pikmin rather than being handicapped to 100 divided among all of the players.

If I didn't get the Wii U as an unexpected gift, Pikmin 3 would've been the system seller, and it would have totally been worth it.

Similarly, if Pikmin 4 comes out on the NX or N3DS, I'll definitely pick it up there, too! I love this series, and Pikmin 3, though amazing and a hearty game in itself, just left me wanting more! Weird that it was announced casually in an unpublished interview, but all I needed to hear was "Pikmin 4" and "close to completion." The wait between 2 & 3 was 9 years, so even if 4 comes out in late 2016, a 2 1/2 year wait between games doesn't seem so bad!

Playable day/night cycle, Please! Make night a threat, but let us face it.

I never saw "Night" as a big deal for me; it was just a way to put a cap to each in-game "Day." I'm perfectly fine without a playable "Night," although I'd love it if it was an option!

Erm. Super Mario Maker is releasing this week. It is pretty damn strong replacement to a Super Mario sidescroller.
I'm very excited for that game, but it's hardly a replacement for a full-blown sidescrolling Mario game.

I mean it's bad enough that you're asking for a NSMB over Pikmin, but you also picked the one thing that is being released in less than a week.
Opinion police wat? Sorry, but I'll take NSMB. More specifically, I mentioned

Other than Super Luigi, I don't see how those fit my criteria of "new Super Mario Sidescroller". And in either cae, you missed my point about
And Nintendo wonders why the Wii U won't sell?

I'd like it if Nintendo would make more of the games that sell instead of vanity projects that no one asked for.

However, the opinion that Pikmin 4 is a bad business move apparently has no place here. Continue to shower accolades. For what it's worth, Pikmin 3 was pretty solid and I hope 4 turns out well.

lol

Further proof Nintendo doesn't subscribe to hype culture. That's one E3 2016 surprise gone. I don't mind.

Pikmin's not my game, but I'm happy for the fans. Now I need Camelot to come out and say they'll finally continue/finish Golden Sun, and Sakurai puts Isaac in Smash. :D

WHAT. It better be a legit sequel Nintendo. Don't stick a 4 at the end and give me a AC Home Designer-esque waste of time.

You do notice that Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer is called Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and not Animal Crossing 5?

I love playing Captain Obvious

To be fair, since New Super Mario Bros. began for all the flak it gets they have sticked to 1 per console.

That doesn't do it either, New Super Luigi U is an expansion for an already existing game, Super Mario 3D World isn't a 2D sidescroller and the others aren't Mario games even. And some of those were likely outsold by Hyrule Warriors too not just Splatoon.

Miyamoto is awesome but he's never been good at pin pointing release dates. When he says almost done that's typically a 6-18 month window.

But there was already a NSMB on Wii U and it didn't sell, and there's still a different new 2D Mario coming.

This is based on what?

4.84 million copies. It could be worse. It did nothing good in terms of mindshare is actually the bigger issue.

It was a bit lacking in overall challenge, but the moment-to-moment play of Pikmin 3 was suburb. For me it struck a surprisingly eloquent balance of attentive, involved play and relaxation. Not quite easy enough that I could sleepwalk through a level, but not too stressful that that the stages were frustrating. The right amount of pressure when trying to get as many fruit in your first run as possible, while preserving your Pikmin while overcoming obstacles. And while I certainly think it could look better, I found myself really pleased with the overall imagery: clean IQ, solid performance, and great use of shaders especially on the delicious fruit. Bright and beautiful.

Pikmin 4 will be a day one for me.
