Miyamoto: Pikmin 4 in development, "very close to completion"

Assuming it's Wii U-bound, there really not much work they need to do for asset creation, or any substantial engine work. If for nothing else, it would be a much cheaper game than a ground-up Metroid from any of their studios.

Even a NX-bound version would probably not require much work; just up the resolution and the framerate and you'd be pretty good to go.

The longer they wait to do a Metroid, the more expensive it's going to be to make, and the harder it will be to sell.

I have a feeling this is most definitely the mobile game they've been teasing. Makes sense as a touchscreen/tablet interface would work well with Pikmin, and they could sell it episodic or by levels.

Starting with the fourth entry on a entirely different plattform seems off, especially when the game on the plattform will be under high sale number expectations by shareholders.

But they are doing a Metroid.

Federation Force

;(

Yeah! 3 was my favourite of the series, please add nights levels on 4, would be perfect have the night playable and if you don't go in time at youe base, you can stay outside but have to be more careful and move stealth from a lot of monsters, but maybe put some high rewards possible to take only on night time :0_

Thanks for hyping it up Nintendo, I'm sure that's a great sales strategy.

Well, I mean, not like there's an abundance of announced Wii U games left to choose from really. People who bought 3 will most likely be interested in 4 as well.

Not that this announcement isn't absolutely crazy and totally Nintendo of course. It is absolutely crazy.

Which is why it's not coming out on the Wii U! :D

I do realistically see one on NX, but they do need to play their cards a hell of a lot better this time around.

No way.

It's probably a game that mostly recycles Pikmin 3 assets and the engine. A lot of the big asset work for the game is done already.

Does pikmin really sell that much better than fzero or metroid. Never seemed that way to me. Unless both of those are in active development.

Well Miyamoto is personally invested in the pikmin series. Obviously he has ties to the F-Zero and Metroid series as well, but Pikmin is one of his babies. And he seems hell-bent on working with and making the series successful.

That does make some sense to me, but I don't know if it's a big enough IP to be worth leveraging. And I'm not sure they'd call it or refer to if as Pikmim 4 if it's for mobile and not a mainline series game. I suppose Pikmim could have a mainline series game on mobile but that would seem antithetical to their outlined mobile plans somehow.

I would love to see a 3DS version of Pikmin, could be very interesting and something I'd constantly play.

All I really want though is online versus, because I never have anyone to play with.

YES

Also, what!?

But mostly YES

Pikmin 3 was one of my favourite games in 2013. So creative in all its aspects. So beautiful. Can't wait for Pikmin 4.

Isn't this how they announced Pikmin 3 too? Kinda random, but I'm all for more Pikmin! And this is probably a launch (window) title for NX, making a launch in 2016 even more likely.

Seems like a poor way of announcing the game, but I'm excited nonetheless. I still haven't opened Pikmin 3 yet as I'm working through some other games.

Why im actually thinking that you might be right? I myself tough of a Pikmin space shooter like crossover from Starfox.

Lets be positive and it will only be a Pikmin game!

On the bright side, the fact they're they're referring to it as Pikmim 4 means it's less likely to be a spinoff or major shakeup in terms of the gameplay mechanics.

They hyped the last one and look what good that did.

According to wiki, Pikmin 3 didn't do badly. It moved over 200k units in America, managed to get #2 on the chart at uk launch (behind minecraft) and was the best selling game in launch week for Japan.

I don't know what people were expecting, but it can't work miracles. It's still a wii u game after all.

I only want the Christmas level.

It's a Pikmin game. Expectations wouldn't be that high.

And Nintendo did say they would be using their established IP for mobile. They wouldn't necessarily start with a new IP, they'd want to release something with an established user base for higher sales. That's what shareholders would ultimately care about.

And it's a B-tier IP, not something like Mario or Zelda, so it would be a good place to start without risking reputation.

WiiU or NX release that is now the question.

Out of nowhere like Randy Orton.

I don't feel so bad missing out on 3.
This time I will buy it day one.

Don't do this to you. You are missing the best installment on the series.
