DH should be abolished. It was only created because the NL dominated for a good decade or so.

The only reason the NL didn't adopt it too is cause the Phillies owner went fishing when the vote happened and couldn't be reached, so his proxy abstained instead of voting for the DH like he wanted. Then the Pirates' proxy was instructed to do whatever the Phillies did so he abstained too.

It's not some grand tradition or purity of the game. It's just a guy who really liked to fish.
