Monster Hunter Stories announced for 3DS (RPG - 2016)

Seriously, standard chibi felyne is cute enough already. That desigm clearly try to make it looks like Jibanyan and failed horribly.

It's a battle in the fandom of cute vs non-cute.

Odd since the only thing that's cuter than regular MH in that video is humans being anime-d up. The feline looks like butt and the monsters look completely identical except for a different rendering style. They didn't cute up the pethalos at all

Not sure how to feel about this. Was never really into MH for several reasons so maybe giving it more of an RPG touch and changing its mechanics up will make it more interesting for me. Will have to wait and see more I guess...

Those monsters look like Digimons though. lol

That is so not running on a 3DS. Yet it doesn't look that good for something prerendered. Coming to a console eventually?

Edit: Silly me, mobile would make more sense.

dear. god.

Of course it's not ! It's rendered on higher resolution. That is the magic with cell shading: The higher resolution, the better it looks. A lot more than games that use realistic graphics.
Nothing in this trailer looks impossible on 3DS.

Thinking about it, this feels to me like Capcom's jealous of Yokai Watch money and is trying to leverage a series that is already popular into something for younger kids (and is more merchandisable).

Not too big on how it looks, I don't think the saturated colors nail cel-shaded, but that's all I got from this.

Riding a MH Monster is adorable though, and this looks aimed towards a younger audience, so that's smart.

Well, the fact that it's not number means it's a side-series for the MonHun series. I bet an inevitable MonHun 5 (probably on a new generation) will be in the same art style we're used to.

I wonder if Stories will be easier, or maybe even turn-based in some fashion? If they are aiming for kids, I doubt they'd keep the same tough-to-master game mechanics from the mainline series.

Cute culture isn't something new to MH but I guess Youkai Watch really push Capcom into it.

Probably will be also coming to the 3DS successor if it a late 2016 release. Same for Snack World... But they can't announce these versions yet obviously.

Well technically MH series CERO C-rated (you must be 15 or older to buy them) so they couldn't openly push it to elementary kids (not that some parents were buying kids some copies anyway though).

Let's see how this attracts younger audience..

INTO MY VEINS YOU SONOFABITCH.

BASED CAPCOM NOT MAKING THIS BEAUTIFUL THING A FUCKING MOBILE GAME.

Crap... I can't breathe. But 2016? Good lord, they take their sweet time...

Wow, not interested in mainline MonHun, but an RPG is more up my alley. I also dig that artstyle.

That overworld was like DQVIII

What's gonna be GameFreak's excuse?

Obviously a good looking overworld was not on the concept poster they scribbled up, duh.

Well that, and the fact that they haven't had a money maker of that sort for themselves since the Megaman BattleNetwork/Rockman.EXE well went dry back in late 00's.

But after the likes of blunders such as Gaist Crusher, they may actually have something on their hands with this game.

Wow cool. I wonder if it's set in the same universe as the original series, but man I didn't think they had kids going hunting too

I like the artstyle a lot, though I hope you can customize the protagonist. This seems like a pretty bare-bones announcement though; not really anything to go on for the gameplay yet. Interested to see what it's like.

Great, a trailer that tells us absolutely nothing about the type of RPG this is. And no guarantee this even makes it west. Not gonna get hyped until I see gameplay and have a firm confirmation on western release.

Wow, looks so good. Never would have expected this.

I wonder if this means they will wait for the 3DS successor for MH5. I was exactly expecting some form of Sony console version.

Honestly it seems like at least the main series is going to be home on nintendo platforms for a while at least. Hasn't Nintendo pretty much help with the oversea releases of this series greatly nowadays?

Nintendo has been doing heavy promotion for them in the west, yes.

The artstyle, probably.

Which does look pretty abysmal. Esp the cat. Dear god what the fuck did they do to it.

Its kinda bad that even the "萌えハンター" free to play browser game looks better art wise... The whole kid as a main character has got to be one of the biggest WAT type of situation. Talk about not knowing what the target audience is.

Lets just hope that the gameplay will make up for the odd main character decision.

Need to see more before I get excited, but Monster Hunter with a little Fantasy Life sprinkled on top of it sounds like my type of game.

I hate egg carry quests though *shudder*. Bad memories.

Loving the artstyle. Also, really hoping this is like DQV and we get to see/be the protagonist in different stages of his life, child-adolescent-adult.

With this art style, coming in the aftermath of yokai watch, I'm assuming the target audience is slightly different from the regular monster hunter games. If they wanted to make a full-blown jrpg to get more money out of a subset of their core fans with a spinoff, they would have just run with a less altered art style.
