Monster Hunter Stories announced for 3DS (RPG - 2016)

I haven't found anything to back this up, so GaijinHunter could be getting some info wires crossed somewhere. It seems pretty unlikely given these companies' history...

Pretty sure he's talking about Scalebound

If only it would look like that on 3DS :(
unless it's a cross gen 3DS/NX title. sounds legit

Super interested tho. I hope we get more details soon.

looks nice. but does this mh5 is pushed out or is this going to be it? was kind of expecting a mh5 announcement soon, its 4 has been out for over a year in jpn.
There's a monster hunter event in May, this isn't called 'Monster Hunter 5' for a good reason. MH is Capcom's cash cow in their home territory, there is no chance they will abandon a group of fans that buy millions of copies of games where they can reuse assets and the community welcome the return of old monsters (complete with their AI patterns) and weapons alongside the new. I mean, it's a sales behemoth that just needs careful curating rather than reinvention every two years. Drastic changes to the core of Monster Hunter are unlikely until the sales drop.

In line with that series curation, this is an attempt to introduce younger fans to the franchise through the cats and cute monsters, as older fans who have been hunting for a decade drift away. Seems pretty smart, looking after the series for the long-term.

If Monster Hunter gets it's claws into a player in Japan, they'll play it with their friends for years. Start them young on something that's a bit more beginner-friendly, and there's a good chance they can get the younger pokemon/YW crowd to give the core games a go when they are older too. MH has long had a problem with first impressions of the series being that it's slow and difficult, this seems like an attempt to address that with the biggest market for portable games in Japan that aren't all playing MonHun yet.

I will buy that. Just found the timing weird...wonder why they did not wait till may.

The models kind of remind me of the ones they used in that arcade game.

Hype though. Knowing that something like this is coming out is enough for me.

Quick thoughts:

It's too early to tell what it is going to end up being, but it strikes me as a transparent attempt to market the world of Monster Hunter to the Pokemon/YW audience. I have no problem with this. The monsters of Monster Hunter are a treasure, and it makes perfect sense that Capcom is trying to broaden their utilization of those monster designs.

The 3DS obviously won't be able to display that resolution, but otherwise the system should be able to handle those assets. The artsyle is perfectly optimized for what the 3DS is good at. Much more so than the mainline series.

I can't wait to see what the gameplay and game structure end up being.

Monster riding and monster training could have huge implications if those mechanics make it back into the mainline series.

Hm, trailer doesn't tell me much of anything I consider relevant (such as how it plays). As someone into traditional MH, can't say I'm interested in this at all.

Why did Nintendo say more information will be revealed about the NX in 2016 , now anything that's says 2016 is directly linked to NX.
Adding a story to MH is a big plus for me.

It's official - I'm buying New 3DS in 2016 :) Great trailer and hopefuly there won't be a big delay between Japanese and western release. Becuase it's coming to the west, right, RIGHT?

I'm not alone in thinking this http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=159778102&postcount=130 right?
Might just be me making up conspiracy theories, but despite being cancelled, a lot of Capcom 3DS projects seems to share a lot of assets from the MML3 build including gaist crusher, EX troopers and now this

A wii U port would be pretty nice. It would look much closer to the trailer which is 100% ok with me on consoles, but I'm not sure how likely it is seeing as the reveal only showed 3DS.
I think it's more that the artstyles are similar. Both are examples of Capcom trying to reach the same audience on the same system. It makes sense that they have elements in common.

Nice one Capcom! I wonder what the gameplay will be like?

And I don't know why people are clicking the dislike button? There's a load of MH spin-offs already, and this looks really good!

Looks gorgeous. Provided the play style suits me, I'll buy it day one.

And Monster Hunter 4 is extremely beautiful, very impressive.

Would be nice if the combat remains deep and we have an actual story, it says it's an rpg, so I'm guessing you are not going to be taking quests and doing monsters one at a time. But you will probably be part of the MH world and live with all these monsters in one huge map and have a story

Why so much cheering about this being on 3DS? Was that not expected?

people can't get enough staring at giant monsters on miniature screens I guess.

truly awesome experience. You can really feel the roar of the Rathalos in those half inch tweeter speakers :P Can really feel the anxiety of those teeth getting closer to you when you are out of health potions and one screw up will end you on that 3.5 inch screen.

Interesting move for the MH series though. Who knows how the gameplay will be different.

It is awesome. But yeah, I guess not everyone can be happy :p

Just started MH4U and liking it. Obviously going to be an extreme time sink but I've got a couple of flight in the near future to kill time on.
This looks nice, I'm getting a level 5 vibe from the style.

Hopefully this is a full fledged story; an epic adventure with plot twists. A story of a young boy growing up and saving his land from an terrible evil. I hope its not just a fantaasy life simulator.

Urgh, do we really have to start his? Can't we just all be happy this isn't a mobile game and not try to bring platform wars into this?

Lol I was about to make a statement about Layton 7 and Fantasy Life 2 being on mobile and this not, but you know what? That response told me all I needed to know. Thanks Shauni.

I was mainly basing what I said on seeing your past posts in MH threads (particularly the May event thread one recently), but if you were actually talking about the mobile thing, then yeah, my bad.

I was. It's obvious Capcom putting this on 3DS is a way to placate the MH fan base while opening it up for new players until Capcom is ready to talk about MH5. Even though I don't think what they've shown look particularly good, I still appreciate the fact it released on a handheld and not as an iOS game.
