Monster Hunter XX Demo coming August 10th

One extra thing to note: you can swap the - and + buttons (options Page 3, second from bottom) so that it's easier to kick.
If you play with Dual Blades I highly recommend doing this. With your weapons drawn the 'kick' button performs the X+A lunging/spin attack. The really useful part is that it even works in Demon Mode where this attack is not otherwise accessible outside of combos (as X+A does the Demon Dance instead). This gives you massively increased mobility and makes filling the Archdemon bar far easier.

I tried using real-time Google Translate to see how it would do. Tried it out on the pouch content;

I'm not sure this is going to be a viable solution.. :P

Hah. If you position the camera so the item icons aren't in the image, or cover them with a bit of paper or something, the names are a bit more intelligible.

I'm so disappointed that there is no English language version announcement for this game :(
The Wii U Monster Hunter was the one where this series finally clicked for me after trying it a couple times on other platforms. I was off work for a couple months with a back injury and laid in bed playing this game. As soon as I got a switch the first thing I thought was how great monster hunter would be.
I don't trust modern Capcom at all to bring this over in a timely fashion.

Just realised you can capture screenshots in this demo.

iirc the other Monster Hunter games on 3DS and Wii U wouldn't let you take screenshots on Miiverse.

Yup, that's because taking screens isn't dictated by game on Switch. I think

So I downloaded the demo. I have never played Monster Hunter before and cannot speak japanese. I have played a little and I think I'm starting to understand the mechanics.

I wonder how many people downloaded the demo outside Japan...

WTF is up with Brave Longsword? Hey I know what Longsword needed, guard points that counterattack and a faster, more mobile, and stronger spirit combo. That wouldn't be a ridiculous thing at all to have with a hunter art that gives infinite spirit meter.

Welcome to Brave Style lol :D

XX is so broken it's hilarious.

Definitely the most powerful weapon in the game due to the counter. Seen so many runs where people get so much free damage off it against the hardest monsters in the game.

Setup up two tvs last night and played for 4 hours last night with my nephew. So sad we are not getting a localization 😓 Hopefully world satisfies.

As a MonHun vet with thousands of hours in these games I feel disappointed.

The games noticeably sluggish and i'm not sure why and the graphics are trash. Graphics mean very little but some of the awful textures and glaringly obvious circle shadows when monsters take off etc. scream rushjob.

Not like this Capcom :/

I'm confused by some saying that this feels sluggish. From what I played yesterday, it's the same tempo that Monster Hunter has had, albeit with all the flashy moves and dodges they added with styles. Aside from the added comfort of using a normal controller, it feels no different from Generations.

Maybe because MH4U ran at around 45-50 fps on average, whereas Double Cross is locked to 30.

I'm equally confused as well. It feels like the 3DS game, but at a higher fidelity and better controls. I mean, sure this is just a demo and the super fast stuff isn't till later anyways.

I'm looking forward to the 25th for some online hunting. Hopefully others here buy it as well so we can organise some GAF hunts.

And considering the Switch version has cross-play with the 3DS version of XX, they pretty much have to run at the same speed.

Yeah, but even there, the framerate didn't impact the timing and it really wasn't different in a noticeable way from the other entries. I've got too much muscle memory for GS to not execute a perfect level 3 charge every time I go for one, and I didn't have to make any adjustments at all here.

Are you sure? MH3U was cross play on the Wii U and 3DS and certain parts on the Wii U went up on FPS. Was the 3DS version like that?

The 3DS version also had an unlocked framerate and, strange as it sounds, actually had a higher average framerate than the Wii U version (~45 fps vs. ~38 fps, IIRC). I think that's all we're seeing here: just an adherence to how one version of the game runs impacting the other. If this ran at an unlocked framerate on the 3DS, then this would have as well.

This feels no different from MHGen other than the controller and resolution. If you're coming from 4U, then ya, it will be different. I forgot how much I missed MonHun on the big TV with a controller, so I'll take what I can get.

I tried Gunlance for the first time and may have to give that a-go in Gen. It's got an interesting rotation. That being said, it is hard to beat the Charge Blade... That is still the most fun for me.

I'm coming from 3U Wii U and it doesn't feel much different to me. But I'm just using hammer and I don't even know what spirit hunter arts and I don't really care. Classic MH :)

Haha! That is hilarious. I put a stupid amount of hours into 3DS XX using only Google Translate. I will say that the 'live translate" option has always given me similar results. Taking a picture and translating from that (all within the app) has much much better results.

Hopefully if enough people do they'll have the good sense to bring it over.

Valfalk is pretty cool aside from its bombing run dive. Who thought that attack was a good idea?

The same people who thought grinding every single deviant to level 10 to unlock Massacre Demon Diablos would be fun and not stupid at all especially when only the host gets completion credit... :'(

Thanks for that information. Not sarcastic. I'd have been super pissed if I found that out when I was playing.

So, I know we can transfer characters from 3DS XX over to the Switch version of XX, but can you transfer your character back and forth? Like with 3U?

Pretty sure you can. This is from the annoucenment trailer. "Mutual transfer of 3DS version and saved data through internet is possible", from google translate.

Well, I've figured out that i don't want to buy this with out a translation.

How do i get the Japanese updates off my feed?
Delete the Japanese profile.

Just played the demo with Lance setup.

That was fucking fun and it's depressing that it's not getting localized. :(

In Brave you have an extra meter that fills up from attacks. Before it's full you have a limited moveset. When you sheath you glow blue and hold a stance for a bit (or longer if you hold the button). If you hold the stance longer you'll start losing stamina and taking recoverable damage. If you attack while in the brave stance you'll do special brave cancel attacks that fill up your meter way faster than normal attacks. If you're hit while holding a brave stance you'll do a crazy ass evasion move with almost no recovery time but still take damage as if you guarded it. This essentially means that in Brave style every weapon can guard. When your meter is full you'll go into brave mode and get a fucking crazy moveset while the meter drains slowly.

Thanks!
came from 4U and went straight for brave since everybody said it was the best style... took me 10 minutes to kill the easiest monster since the moveset was completely fucked. now I know why... Guess I should experiment a little bit more with these styles (although so far I probably wouldn't miss them if they were gone from the game...)

How do i get the Japanese updates off my feed?

you can deactivate them... didn't someone here even write a short guide somewhere...?

edit: beat the easy one and barioth without much troubble... but Valphalk (?) is tough. Thankfully not in an annoying way. Actually it may be one of the cooler flagship monsters, I certainly dig it's design way more than generation's 4 bore-o-saurs

Played the demo for a while, I did notice that alchemy hammer is stronger than brave LS. Took Macao under 5 minutes with both (4:25 hammer, 4:31 LS).
While alchemy hammer hit so hard, the brave hammer is too good at knockout. Even without the homerun swing attack, I could get 3 K.O in a single battle easily.

I really like how they buff hammer in this game (Go cry CB users) lol
