Monster Hunter XX Demo coming August 10th

It should be at least identical to X

and yes... Generations was 30FPS locked as opposed to uncapped like MH4U was so it will "feel" different

Did they make longsword slower. It feels so sluggish. Graphics are super bad and can't even hit 60fps. This game is a mess.

HD 3DS game. Doesn't hit 60 because of the sheer number of effects happening on the screen at one time. And actually, this game is fantastic. And no, the longsword isn't slower. Like at all.

it's a 3DS port with cross play
your expectations are irrational

If it would at least be a stable 30 that'd be nice, but this port can't even give us that judging by the demo. It stutters regularly, likely due to short dips into the 28-29 fps territory.

edit: see my comment below.

Screams rush job then

damn shame but this is the demo and we know that some demos underperform compared to the main game

Kind of like how Dragon Quest Heroes 2 turned out

Why you gotta be killing my hype before my download is even done :(

Capcom gon Capcom

Of course it's a rush job. Capcom totally botched their read of the market.

There's barely anything happening on screen other than basic ass effects. It can't even maintain a solid 30. No wonder Capcom didn't want to localize this hackjob.

Since I have to make a jp account anyway, is there any cool stuff, demo or full games, to grab on the jp eShop ?

there's also die spelunker demo which is actually quite content rich. give it a try!

Seems like they read the Japanese market clearly tbh, as in a port of XX wasn't going to be hot no matter how much effort they put into it.

by releasing the next big entry on a console? yeah, they clearly read the japanese market...

Hmm?

Japan is getting it all. Including whatever future portable MH games they make

Our future in the west is whats uncertain

Actually, I'm not sure if it's the frame rate that's behind some of the stuttering I've seen now that I've played it a bit more. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it kinda feels like the game stutters right when you start or stop moving. Also when you roll. Has anyone else noticed this? Maybe I'm going mad. It's kind of like the camera can't keep up with the shift in movement speed and goes from tracking you slowly to full speed and vice versa. I find it's best visible by looking at some piece of static geometry on the far left or right side of the screen and then tapping the stick to its edge in any direction. The camera doesn't gradually track you, but kinda 'jumps' to where your character will be once the movement completes.

Booted up MH4U to compare and it does a similar kind of thing. It's so distracting and I can't unsee it now :')

The timing could have been much much better though, and so could sales.

I doubt it would matter in terms of overall units sold. They'd get more sales from Switch owners who would have bought that version over the 3DS version, but that just means less 3DS sales. So what would they be gaining?

You might as well say that Square-Enix are making a mistake by not releasing DQXI Switch day and date with the 3DS/PS4 versions.

---

Anyway, I can't get a good feel for the frame rate in the game until online multiplayer is available. It's smooth in the demo but I'm playing by myself. I wonder how it performs when all 4 hunters are doing things.

I like how you completely ignored the rest of the sentence. Good job.

or maybe you failed to read into the implications?
the point was, that if they read the japanese market properly the XX port wouldn't exist in it's current form and some proper future switch project would have been announced. But they clearly failed to do that, hence we are left with a panic-"oh god this handheld console actually sells well in Japan, who would've thought? Quick put something Mh-related on it"-port of a mediocre MH entry.

I must be going crazy here but the game felt more sluggish than Generation on 3DS.
On 3DS I was absolutely fine with the 30fps but this demo felt extremely slow.
Other than that, I love the super sharp visual

Switch came out 5 months ago. You're gonna have to be patient for HD games to be made, especially in a series that has been using sub-HD assets for many years.

World has been in development for what, 4 years? Yeah, HD assets on significantly more powerful hardware with many overhauled gameplay systems will take time to develop, even on Switch.

I mean

MT Framework is their bread and butter engine and seem like they have scaled it to a ton of platforms by now

I would say that the XX team has already started on a 5th gen game for switch but thats all speculation on my part

That's not really how it works. 3DS sales likely would've been lower but there's no telling how much higher a Switch release might've pushed a multiplatform launch either. If DQXI 3DS or PS4 didn't exist the game wouldn't have just sold the same total amount of copies on the other platform regardless.

Yep, no so excited after i tried the demo.
I think its a combination of MHW stealing the hype, plus the fact that i played this game for more than 100 hours and that its just the 3DS game in Hi Res

Setup a japanese store account and gave it a go, yep it's monster hunter gen/X in pretty much every untouched way possible.

It's a simple and basic port to the switch, worth picking up if you still want to play the game I guess.

I hope they didn't repeat the same mistake that they made with MH3UHD

amateur hour if so

the controls feel like a direct covert over from 3DS, I too would love to see sprint and item toggle on the triggers instead of bumpers but hey :<

Yeah World has made me dream of an evolved MH experience. MHXX feels like it's stuck in 2008 but that's not saying it isn't fun, it is, but I wish I was playing World instead.

It also doesn't help that there's no online multiplayer in the demo for me. I don't do local co-op so I'm not all that excited until the full game is out in a few weeks.

I had fun with it but won't deny that this feels like a very low effort port

I'm not sure who will buy this tbh

People like me who loved Generations and can read some Japanese.

I get the impression some people are somehow forgetting this is a port of Double Cross, not Generations. I want to fight the new monsters with new styles and new features in G-rank.

Having what might presumably be the last "classic-style" Monster Hunter game in HD and portable is very compelling for me.
