More important to you, Portability or Graphics?

Easily portability because I care about the gameplay.

After I finish a session of gaming the part that sticks in my memory the strongest isn't how sharp or detailed the image was, it's the expirience and fun I had. Ever notice old games you've played before looking much worse than you remember? The imagination can compensate quite at bit for bad graphics.

I'd rather be able to enjoy good games anywhere than to be tied to the living room with detailed graphics i'll mostly forget anyway.

Depending on the game.

I like long games with cinematics, choices, and huge story content for home consoles so I can play relaxed at home and not losing any detail.

Portability for fast gaming like beat-em-ups, fighting games, minigames, etc.

It depends. Usually, games with more than 30 hours (RPGs) I prefer portable. Games with huge focus on the visuals (Uncharted) I prefer graphics.

One example, I wish I could play Persona 5 and Gravity Rush 2 on a portable device (Remote play doesn't count ), but I wish Zelda BOTW had a little more polish regarding to graphics (resolution, anti-aliasing) and performance (60 fps would be nice).

The ideal system for me would be a "Switch" where every game is 60fps regardless of the portability but when docked the resolution should be at least 1080p with all anti-aliasing, particles and shit.

Gameplay then graphics. Portability is by the least important aspect of a game to me. I get why people use it, but playing a game like say Zelda on a 6 inch screen is gross to me.

Until I got a used Vita on a whim it was graphics, but that's changed. I just got a DS which is crazy good. Destiny 2 has pulled me back into actually using a console.

Really depends on what the game is going for.

No, I don't want to play Wolfenstein 2 on Switch handheld. I want that on the big screen and playing with the best possible console setup.

Phantasy Star isn't going for the same presentation, so that's a bit easier to put on the Switch or other portable.

Portability is not huge for me because I don't use public transportation and if I'm out and about, it's usually with my family. Gaming time is generally done by myself with little to no distractions around me at home.

So graphics.

This is a great questions OP.

I guess it depends on your lifestyle, If I were 15 years old, I would tell you graphics right away, but now I'm 30 years old with 2 kids and my gaming time has shrink quite a lot. It is difficult to find time to sit in front of a TV to [play my PS4. Not to mention if you want to play like an online games like destiny or something similar the meet up time can be consuming. Honestly both are good. I love having a home console experience on the GO, of course has its compromises, but gets the job done.

As a matter of fact, I will buy doom and wolfenstein II on the Switch, since I can play them literary anywhere i want.

Depends on the game but in most cases portability.

Like I would rather play Xenoblade 3D than the Wii version despite the graphical downgrade.

Portable isn't a step backwards, it's a step in a different direction. And it can't be a hindrance considering portables always follow in the steps of boxes connected to a display device. It's basically a convenience over power product.
The instant on is also huge on the Switch.

I can stop Zelda for 10 days and pull it out of the dock and within 5 seconds it is on exactly where I left off.

It sounds like such a small thing to talk about, but it really does make for a big different in your quality of life.

It depends, but I guess I lean towards portability, which to me is synonymous with convenience . With my work schedule sitting down in front of a television often feels like I'm making a date to play a game. When I think about it there is no way would have been able to sink the hours I did into Zelda if I didn't have the luxury of being able to play a little bit before bed in place of reading.

Portability. The only types of games I wouldn't want to play on a portable are games with control schemes that are too complex for the modern controller layout (e.g. some CRPGs, sims, or strategy games). Anything else I'd rather play on a handheld as long as the performance doesn't suffer significantly.

Pretty much all I feel like I should really need is a PC and a Switch+Vita.

I'm not interested in portability so graphics by default. Although I'll always pick the version where most of my friends will be on. If that means getting it on the Switch over PS4 or Xbox so be it.

I was on PSP+PS3 then exclusively to Vita and now exclusively to GPD Win(the handheld pc for those who don't know it).
I guess that says enough.

Depends on the game itself. I would definitely make the decision based on the type of game and merits of both system rather than have a blanket preference.

Isn't vita the same?

These days I do most of my portable gaming on my cell phone, so, graphics I suppose.

44 years old, two kids, and I find plenty of time to play games with them as well as alone.

I used to have 2-3DS and 2-PSPs, now I'm just got 3-2DS. It's just too clunky for me to carry around all these "portable" devices.

If I could take my PS4 library with me like on the Switch, I absolutely would. I don't have much free time to play and actually sitting down to play at the TV requires dedication and moving things around. If I could play the rest of The Lost Legacy on my commute to work in the morning - that would change gaming completely for me. It would be completely freeing.

I love the idea of the Switch, I just don't like Nintendo games/franchises. So yeah, Switch PS4 version please Sony!

portability.

I never thought I'd say that before as I own a 2,000 dollar gaming PC that mostly collects dust. Ever since I got my Switch portability has been my new favorite way to play games. I've recently started playing my 3DS and have a huge library of amazing games to take anywhere on the go. Even just around my house I enjoy portable consoles more, I don't like being stuck in one spot for too long.

There are some games I will make an exception for. Games like Age of Empires, CSGO, Company of Heroes, Pillars of Eternity, and RDR2 I'll definitely prefer to play on my PC. But just about everything else I'll play on my Switch if I can.

If the option is between the gimped version and the non-gimped version of a game then I'll opt for the latter 99% of the time. So I guess that puts me in the graphics camp.

It honestly kinda bugs me when I see a video or trailer for a game that looks cool on Switch only for it to end with the usual message that it's available on every platform under the sun. It just turns into: "why buy version x, y, z when you can get the objectively superior pc version?"

This is just an issue with me though, with every multiplat boiling down to that same question every damn time.

Portability means nothing to me. I can't invest my full attention in a game's world if it's on a small screen. I don't mind portable games on my phone, but they are usually little more than distractions/boredom killers for me instead of full-on immersive entertainment.

Graphics are important to me - at least half of the reason why I like video games (it's right there in the title - video+game).

Now a portable VR headset might be different. It would definitely offer a more rewarding experience, but I can't be fucked to look that stupid in public tbh.
