Just here to say that The Raid (1&2) are THE BEST FIGHTING MOVIES EVER

Yeaaaaah I can confirm its not the best fight scenes in the new MK. Mainly because they are cut up a lot so you can barely make out whast happening. The Raid for example you can feel every blow and see almost every force coming towards a guy.

Even though not my favorite character, Sub Zero is a total bad ass in this movie.

The bad:

-There never was a tournament LOL
-Goro dies the stupidest death. He is also MUTE!
- Scorpion shows up in the last 10 min of the movie. The fight you saw in the movie with sub zero? Thats the ending lol.
-Id say Milena is the biggest throwaway character. I dunno, felt like they spent the least amount of time on her costume and she actually looks like a dwarf in the movie. Even with all camera tricks you can tell she is a short stubby female.

Lets just make one thing clear...its light years ahead of Annihilation. Its a "solid" movie but that last 30 mins IMO, they totally butchered anything they built by then, its just way too fast for a closure. And from my spoilers if you read them, that well we cant ignore.

I genuinely forgot that existed.

What gets me is the constant talk about staying true to the series, then pulling all of that stuff. If they had said they were taking the series in a new direction they might have got some bad feedback but at least it would have been the truth.
 
So reading the leaks this movie is going to be garbage. It is as I suspected
cole is the main hero. Liu kang is not the chosen one but a chump. It's another scorpion main hero type movie. Cole is related to scorpion. Straight garbage. Oh and coles move is literally plot armor. Defeats goro while Liu kang handles kabal.

I've seen a lot, I'm a fan of the genre ^^. As you said it's just a matter of opinion and I personally can't think of a better fighting movie. The car chase, the kitchen fight, baseball girl and hammer boy, the prison fight, Rama vs Mad Dog... there is so much to love in these movies




Which movie has your preference ?

I love old kung fu and wuxia movies. I collect those flicks!

But, one of the best "new" movies is Flashpoint imo.
For me Donnie Yen is a legend.

I feel you, I watched a lot of them in my first 20 years (especially with the incredible Jackie Chan)

Watched an advance screening last night. I really enjoyed the movie. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did.

I'll always love the original, but this did a good job.

The storyline was a little bit "meh", but other than that there were plenty of laughs, lots of action, and some decent CGI given the budget.

Josh Lawson was great as Kano and almost all of his lines had the whole cinema laughing!

If you are a fan of MK I'd highly recommend it. 7/10

How was my boy subzero
 
I thought the film was pretty awful to be honest. Even the fight scenes were dull and boring.
It pales so much compared to the orig film, which although dated today, actually felt like Mortal Kombat, and followed the main story.

Was REALLLLLY looking forward to this.... Turned out to be a total shit fest.

Shit fest is actually a compliment it's an absolute mess of a film, acting is disgraceful the plot is mehhh and kano is not kano at all, some characters are pointless and the choreography is worse than the 1995 movie apart from the begining and the last fight which are good fight scenes and coincidentally involve the same two people, it's not actually a coincidence ones a good martial artist and the other is actually very good with a blade and knows martial arts, The rest look like random people picked up at the mall.

The mini series (which was fantastic) is on another level to this absolute tripe.
 
I'm enjoying it so far but the casting is terrible! Especially Raiden. Wtf.

Edit; it gets really fun later on. Great fights. I'm enjoying it!

As someone who has barely seen any material arts movies .. what do you recommend?

I cannot get into crouching tiger Hidden dragon just in case you're gonna suggest that lol. I don't mind a bit of fun on my fights scenes but not flying.

IP man was decent I found.
 
Terrible soundtrack, terrible actors, terrible dialogue, mediocre fights, lame protagonist. The original is not a good movie but has a campy charm. This has nothing going for it.
 
Wow very divisive opinions here. I'm gonna watch it tomorrow. I never thought the trailer looked good. Not sure why people thought it looked amazing.

The Raid and the Raid 2 are top notch. Merantau is by the same director and actors but a little more cheesy but great action. Fearless and Fist of Legend with Jet Li are really good with a little bit of wire work but nothing like Crouching Tiger. Ong Bak and the protector with Tony Jaa are great, the sequels to Ong bak aren't great but do have some great fights if you can get through the bizarre weird. Killzone with Donny Yen and Sammo Hung is awesome, Kung Fu Killer has some good martial arts too, I like all the Ip Man movies but the first two are definitely the best. First two police story movies have some great fights and I will always have a soft spot for Rumble in the Bronx. All those last ones are Jackie Chan. That's what I can think of off the top of my head...
 
Just saw the movie. I stand with my opinion and this movie doesn't even come close to The Raid.
Not to mention My Boy Rama is doing more fatalities than that Mortal Kombat movie

This shit was so disappointing. But still glad it was made.

Completely rushed. They tried to fit everything into the second half of the movie, and 1 on 1 fights were all happening at the same time. There was no Build up to any of them, and they had no impact.

Scorpion was fucking bad ass. Sub Zero was fucking bad ass.

I didnt give a shit about anyone else.

We need a Scorpion movie about his trip through hell - Leading up to his revenge on Sub Zero. With a more serious tone and more fleshed out FIGHTING.

THATS a spinoff I would be down for.

Because no one ever asked for this. But upon seeing this disaster, thats exactly what we need.

Thats the only way this thing can have success in 2021.

A scorpion origin story about his battle through hell with Sub Zero as the boss.

It was ok. Not the best, but decent enough. Raiden was definitely no Christopher Lambert. Soundtrack was whatever. Wish we had more Scorpion, but don't we always.
 
Saw this last night, for a video game movie about people killing eachother i couldnt ask for too much more. Story was thin, dialogue not the greatest but it was fun. I hope it does well enough for a sequel
 
Just watched. Thought it was trash.

Scorpion didnt have enough screen time.

Sub Zero was badass.

Fights were rushed and inconsecuential, choreography and camera work wasnt the best.

The "save my wife and kids" element was total crap and the new character wasnt needed, specially not as protagonist.

Acting was trash.

Music was terrible.

Jax with shitty metal baby arms was funny though.


Overall its a 3 or 4 out of 10 for me. And I really REALLY enjoy shitty movies.

The MK games managed to have better plots lol
