Most underrated games you have played

My man. HIGH-FIVE!

I came here to post this. Good to see it in the first post. This game should get way more recognition than it does, imo, I'm not sure why it seems to fly under the radar here.

I'm about 2 hours into Radiant Historia and it hasn't clicked with me. It just feels like a cookie cutter turn-based JRPG so far. Does it get better later?
Yoko Shimomura's OST is pretty ace though.

For me, the battle system never got old. It's probably the most engaging battle system I've encountered in an RPG. The story was pretty interesting too, once the main feature of the title starts to come into play:
jumping between alternate timelines
.

Nobody ever talks about Magic PenGel. I had so much fun with this!

Killzone.
Yep. First Killzone is still the best one. It had switchable characters with different abilities, a lengthier campaign with a better story, more diverse locations, and better weapons. Outside of graphics the sequels were all a step back. I'm strictly talking about single player here.

You know what? I think I'm going to go pick up Radiant Historia now I've almost picked it up several times now and my local gamestop has a copy. I've been needing something portable to play in my down time at work.

I'm going with Midtown Madness 3.

I had tons of fun playing "tag" with this game. I really didn't expect it to be so much fun but I put a lot of time into this game.

Not sure how much critical acclaimed it received, but I'd put this under an underrated category.

Still the most pure fun I've ever had in an online racing/driving game...

Not so much underrated as totally ignored and forgotten! Anyone looking for a deep, engrossing and hugely satisfying city builder/transport simulator should download this to their 3DS posthaste.

Don't balk at the $30 price for a downloaded game, it is packed with content, including a dozen scenarios with goals to meet, a free-play sandbox mode, and a create-your-own scenario mode (including goals and story-sequences) that can be exported and shared if you can find anyone else who is still playing it.

It's a shame Natsume sent this game out to die.

In terms of Metacritic the most underrated has to be Driveclub. But I also loved Resistance 3. I actually find it to be alot better then Halo and Call of Duty (not the multiplayer aspect)

Terranigma is at least as good as Chrono Trigger, yet no one talks about it =X

Barring its poor translation, the game shines in every aspect. It also has some of the most fun dungeons in RPGs, and it nails the pacing of the game.

I'll also mention the entire "SoulBlazer trilogy" while I'm at it, since they're all pretty good. Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma. Easily some of the best RPGs out there.

Awesome topic!
These are two underrated games that I remember I had a great time with them:

I'm sure there are many more tough :P

It's the best game of 2014, but sadly it got overshadowed by Shovel Knight (not in quality tho).

i like Nier, Spec Ops: The Line, and even Silent Hill: BoM as much as anyone can, but as far as the "most" underrated?

The gap between the review scores and how much it sold and the quality of the game, this I find to be the widest. Its just so damn good and I think it even has wide appeal, but not as many people played it as they should have.
It has one of the best FPS single player campaigns ever, its up there with the Metro games or Killzone 2. Its just so damn good.

Loved Resistance 3. Had Halflife 2 vibes playing it. Too bad not enough people gave it a chance after the "bad" (i enjoyed it) Resistance 2.

Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 was a very cool tactical fps and was what really fed my interest in more realistic first-person shooter games. Still install it from time to time to have another playthrough.

Despite decent critical reception, Dragon Quarter's drastic departure from Breath of Fire series norms was not well-received by a huge portion of the fanbase. I still see it getting hell to this day for its changes, and I'll admit that I wasn't totally sold on them until I beat the game personally.

Still the best entry in the series. Masterful art direction, oppressive and compelling world, bleak story about corruption and struggle. The battle system alone makes the game worth playing. It's one of the most interesting takes on tactics in turn-based systems I've ever seen.

And now we have Breath of Fire VI on its way. Ugh...

This one here has the most baffling metacritic score of all games I like, a friggin..... 58

The game actually has plenty of good qualities going for it, like the phenomenally beautiful Del Toro-esque art direction, the fluid and fun combat and well done acting.
Yes, it has problems with the world map design feeling convoluted, stupidly boring stealth sections and a plot that feels so rushed you would think it was intended as trilogy.

Still, I was enjoying the game thoroughly for what it was. And it was even my second most favourite game of 2014.

Punishing this game with scores around the 50s is just a plain insult. LoS 2 is better than these scores would indicate.

Jade Cocoon 2

I never hear a damn thing about this game, and It's one of my favorite monster raising games. Did a RTTP for the game awhile back, and most people weren't aware of the game's existence. It's the first PS2 game I ever played, and I really enjoyed it. I heard the first game was superior in-regards to the beast merging, so maybe that turned off people to the sequel. I've never played the original.

Hardly anyone gave it a fair shot.

MAG was a awesome game. Really hope Sony picks a studio to make a sequel in the future.

Besides Chip, and a few nitpicks about with the gameplay, the game was really well done. I bought it twice, once for the Wii, and again on the PS3. Some of The werehog levels were too long, but not as bad as most people made it out to be.

Terranigma is at least as good as Chrono Trigger, yet no one talks about it =X

I love the Soul Blazer Trilogy, but I think Terranigma is actually overrated , often because of its obscurity. The combat in all 3 games is pretty lackluster. I think they are really good games, with Illusion of Gaia probably at the top, but I don't think any of them come close to something as masterfully crafted as Chrono Trigger, which nailed every single aspect of its design.

If we can imagine a world where Terranigma was actually released in the United States, I think it still wouldn't get talked about as much as Chrono Trigger, but it is damn good and does deserve to be mentioned amongst the SNES's greatest.

I've said this before, but Coloris for GBA. a 2nd party Nintendo dev made these japan-only puzzle games and Coloris is one of my favorites among them. Famitsu apparently rated Coloris lower than the other puzzle games

Not everyone can see the brilliance. DQ is great although I totally get why allot of people don't like it. The beginning of that game is not good - Probably the first hour or so. The gameplay elements don't shine in the opening stage. You're without the signature abilities from the game and your combat party is not the diverse group you get later. And the game hasn't set its direction (the 'no D-Counter' part, among other things)

Gameplaywise the game was a gift from the gods.

Storywise the game was complete shit. 15 chapters and the plot starts at the end of CH14 being the rest of the game pure Anime-like Filler.

Don't concern yourself with any of that. All the best stuff from the Resonance of Fate narrative is in the character work and presentation. The exact reasons for why certain things are the way they are, which tri-ace was compelled to detail out for one reason or another by the end in a bad anime fashion, aren't important. I knew going in that the endgame narrative is bad and in retrospect I regret nothing. Resonance of Fate is fantastic.

... Those last few chapters are jarring. Up to that point the presentation was well crafted. While there are bizarre bits here and there, they didn't derail the experience. Sometimes makes me wonder if tri-ace were forced into it.
